Coffee, Flytipping and Bluebells

Rescue Hoad's Wood is a grassroots campaign urgently calling for the clean-up of a shocking environmental disaster in Hoad’s Wood, near Bethersden, Kent. Since the beginning of 2020, the community has been reporting illegal activities, including the felling of large woodland areas and the dumping of hazardous landfill waste. Despite initial injunctions, the problem has dramatically escalated.
By July 2023, the situation worsened as trucks, often unlicensed, began frequenting the site, dumping toxic waste that now sits approximately 25 feet deep in places, affecting a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Authorities have repeatedly dismissed community reports, attributing the activities to a "multi-agency operation." However, it wasn’t until a significant media spotlight in January 2024 that any real action was taken.
The site is now a health hazard, emitting hydrogen sulphide gas detectable even within residents' homes and risking water contamination through toxic leachate. Our community's health, well-being, and trust in local governance are severely compromised.
We demand immediate action from the authorities to clean up and restore Hoad's Wood. Join the fight to protect our natural heritage and hold those responsible accountable. Please support the cause by signing and sharing our petition. Every voice counts!

Was in an ancient woodland today, carpeted with English Bluebells. So glad everyone who visits shows it the respect it deserves.

Hello Alastair, Well said... I think we all have to take responsibility for some of what is going on... The woods you've shown has had quite a lot of coverage on the TV news, hopefully it will lead to change. See you on the next one... Take care. Paul,,

I just finished reading your book Local (loved it btw) you talk about this in the book and my husband and I were talking about plastics today. It’s sad to see the beauty of nature being littered with all that trash that will possibly take 100’s of yrs to decompose!

Nearly finished 'Local' so this clip is timely. 🤙 I too resent living in my town (Launceston, Tasmania) but I am forcing myself to open my eyes, be aware of the small things and practice good stewardship, pick up trash, care a little, etc. 100% support and agree with your message, however it's a hard sell amongst the trivial nonsense being spewed out on KZread. Keep on keeping on bro ✌️

A sad sight and very thought provoking - we are all to blame and we can, and should, do something about it - it affects nature not only 1000s of miles away, but also in our own locality. Speaking of local, I really enjoyed your talk at a Ilkley last week (I was the cider and book guy sat behind you)

@@al_humphreys All my friends would agree that it is an apt description of me - along with my KZread name 'FrugalMrB'! Inspired by your 'Local' book (which I'm currently listening to on your podcast), I'm exploring more of the footpaths around my local area (Skipton). Thanks, Andrew.

That has the telltale signs of a council getting backhanders from the land owner and users. Vote in Green party councillors on Thursday!
