I agree with every word. I wrestled from 2004 till 2018. Each of those 14 years I was on the road 340 days out of a year. I've had the highs and lows of the business. Wrestling paid for my house, my children's college education, and my classic car collection. But, it's also paid for my first divorce, alimony payments, child support for 2 children. I can barely walk now and I'm only 47.

What I've learned about watching wrestling for the last 20 something years is, every Young Generation complains about the old generation taking their spots, and then every Young Generation becomes the old generation taking those spots from the young guys. It's actually hilarious, I remember listening to Chris Jericho, and all those guys, bitching and complaining about Hogan, Savage, and Nash taking their spots. Now this is exactly what's going on in this generation. It's just one big vicious circle of complaining.
@SirRavixofFourhorn
Жыл бұрын
Hogan and Nash never tried to build up the undercard though there's a big difference. Heck even Savage held people back once he went to WCW. Jericho has made like 4 or 5 younger stars platforms much bigger through his programs with them on AEW.

There are definitely wrestlers between the age of forty and fifty who are still performing at an exceptional level. Edge, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, and Bobby Lashley to name a few. Hell, some wrestlers careers really took off once they were pushing forty themselves. Even if Cody does retire at forty, I certainly hope he becomes WWE Champion beforehand.

His brother is still wrestling and is in good condition. I think it depends on when you started and how long you are in WWE. Other companies are easier on your body. AJ just joined when he was almost 40 so he could go to 50 without a problem. I would say some jobs are bad on your body and you need long breaks to rest your body and mind then maybe come back. Years off helps. I got seriously injured at my real physical job and don't know if I can ever work again.

A lot of wrestlers hit their prime at forty. Undertakers best run was around forty. It just means that your peak doesn’t last long, THAT is what people get wrong. They hit forty and think “I’m better than ever” and they are but that peak ends right around forty five.

I think it depends alot on the type of wrestler and the style of wrestler you are, like if you are more of a free flowing wrestler or a dominator meaning most of your moveset is based on power you can wrestle till 50 pretty comfortably however wrestlers like kofi evan borne tyson kid should probably retire earlier since their moveset demands a lot more from them and with age they also get limited in their moveset. The big problem with kofi as wwe champion was that he wasn't that level of athletic that he was during the whole randy situation 10 years prior. If kofi won during that period he'll atleast be at sheamus level in terms of his career path etc etc

Nerd.
@SirRavixofFourhorn

Hogan and Nash never tried to build up the undercard though there's a big difference. Heck even Savage held people back once he went to WCW. Jericho has made like 4 or 5 younger stars platforms much bigger through his programs with them on AEW.

Dont even compare his matches to modern day matches. His finisher was a fucking leg drop , he could even wrestle in his 80s with that moveset
In wrestling its weird that late stride is when a long running wrestler hits their best times. I love their stories so it's great to have any wrestler know when they want to call it or continue on till, they hit their benchmark and legacy.
When ur young 40 seems old but when u grow older u realize 40 is still good
I swear this dude reminds me of an old xbox friend I lost contact with his name is David though. IDK why everytime I see him I think of that guy.
Over 100 years in the business, rarely injured… I know my GOAT
A lot of my favorite wrestlers are in their 40s and they're at the peak of in ring performance
Back at Wrestlemania 25, Undertaker & HBK we're both in their 40s and they produced the greatest Wrestlemania match ever.
I think some wrestlers have the best runs around their 40s. Triple H 2008-2012 had his best face run and he was right on 40 years old around that time.
He seems like a good dude in real life, Hang out and have a beer type guy
There are definitely wrestlers between the age of forty and fifty who are still performing at an exceptional level. Edge, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, and Bobby Lashley to name a few. Hell, some wrestlers careers really took off once they were pushing forty themselves. Even if Cody does retire at forty, I certainly hope he becomes WWE Champion beforehand.
Performers that know how to wrestle have longer careers than the glorified stuntmen and women of today’s promotions
10 more years of Cody is what we need he is 37 so 46-47 ish i can see him leaving
I loved your father he was one best ever RIP
His brother is still wrestling and is in good condition. I think it depends on when you started and how long you are in WWE. Other companies are easier on your body. AJ just joined when he was almost 40 so he could go to 50 without a problem. I would say some jobs are bad on your body and you need long breaks to rest your body and mind then maybe come back. Years off helps. I got seriously injured at my real physical job and don't know if I can ever work again.
20 years from now Cody gonna be a pro bong 60, and old man wrestler.
What most ppl doesn't get is that 40 is when they're career kicks off
He such a down to earth guy just like his old man
Big to your dad he left something for you Keep up the good work and can see that your going to make your dad proud
Loved Dusty as a kid Now watching Cody and must say I've got alot of respect for him as well seems like a down to earth stand up kinda guy wish him the best
Loving the humility
So like does anyone else get the vibe that he would just be a really nice dude to have a conversation with or like be good friends with. He seems really down to earth and honest about his past and his mistakes and being a little arrogant but like he just seems like a very genuine person
When I first saw him talk at the Hall of Fame induction of his father, I knew he had it and while I like to feel proud of being able to see it then, I also think everyone else could see it too, so obvious. He deserves all the success and I'm really happy for him.
This guy never got the respect that he deserved even from the beginning. This guy is a legacy. This guy is from a family of wrestlers. True wrestling royalty
I'd be shocked if he retired in 3 years. No chance in hell unless he's seriously seriously convinced himself
R-Truth, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Dolph, I think The Miz and Sheamus are close to 40. And they all are still in shape

Cody look just fine he looks like a humble guy
The honesty from this man. Thanks Cody. Legend.
Man I am so proud of the man Cody has become. So glad he's getting his fame and push he deserves in WWE now.
A lot of wrestlers hit their prime at forty. Undertakers best run was around forty. It just means that your peak doesn’t last long, THAT is what people get wrong. They hit forty and think “I’m better than ever” and they are but that peak ends right around forty five.
It’s really so many wrestlers that look so young despite being 40 which is honestly insane
wait 1920, are we seeing Cody the vampire
He is 37 when he returned to wwe
I always wondered what happened to dusty roads, glad to see his son
i mean look at Styles, he's still going strong
I’m glad more superstars look at their long term health. Like it’s possible to go for a long time, but the longer you go at the level they do, the bigger toll it extracts.
Rick Flair was the perfect example
That puts things into perspective for me. The bad guy (heel character) is down a lot due to having the good guy (face character) in a positive place so to say at all times
There are alot of athletes that make good examples of being active past 40. I think these days given all the knowledge we have about health and fitness. Athletes can play well past 40 now, even at a high level.
He got a good 10 years left
As a man myself he is the the road and blue print to my love for pro-wrestling. He will become champ...
Brock lesnar thought the same when he left wwe he turned 40 and thought no more wrestling now but money made him return to wwe money is everything
40 really isnt that old. But i get these guys put their body thru hell
When he said Tom Brady was 80 got me on the floor
I like Cody he is a cool dude
Good point
Bro we are here for it as long as you are. Respect
If this is or was true we would of seen Cody for 3 more years in the wrestling industry 😳😭
People need to just start living in the moment man, tomorrow isn’t promised
Loved the part about staying away from absolutes.
Damn 1920 buddy 102 years in wresling looking good jeez
Love his story about Undertaker at one of the Royal Rumbles, if you’ve never heard it do yourself a favour and watch it, it’s awesome😀
I just really like this guy man
Bro started wrestling during the Great Depression 💀
Great footage
So many ways guys can recover than in the past thus adding years to their careers. Not being out of shape or a smoker or an addict he helps too.
brady is 80 in football year's
This dude will be wrestling way into his 50s....
Brock's athletism up until today is on a different breed, hes 45 already. 40 i think can still deliver and perform great wrestling although it still depends on wrestler's health and overall fitness.
Dusty Rhodes and the polka dots was my childhood
Gotta love Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes is like paper. Torn trap torn pec… his tearing everything 😂😂😂😂. Nah im playing. love Cody 🔥🔥🙌🏿
Are we forgetting taker vs Shawn at mania 🤔? He defined you could be in your prime at anytime in your career. He was in 2006 early 90's and many other points of his career he remained hot
Cody Rhodes is definitely going to what his dad and his brother did, wrestle well into his 50s
Respect to this guy
There's one thing Cody left out here about wrestlers in their 40s right now. They are safe and smart professionals who don't cut themselves every Wednesday night or do 10 flips per match. For those wrestlers? They'll be out of commission in their late 30s before wrestlers like Randy Orton retire.
40 is the new 20
For me if I was in his position would probably 40- 43 as a part time so I could have a few good matches and put over some young talent.
40 is often the age a wrestler enters his prime. This has been the case for maybe a decade now.
Can’t believe he planned to retire at 40. Dude is literally 103 years old and still goin.
Maybe if he can ease his schedule, why not, if he feels good, love to see these guys more health conscious
Whenever I see Cody lately, all I can think of is Vergil from DMC 😁
LA Knight: "I'm forty and I'm still kicking, BECAUSE IM LA KNIGHT, YEAH!"
