He ain’t kidding when he says they rope every day. I went up to Toledo, Ohio to see him on tour and as I was walking passed his tour bus, I saw them roping saw horses for fun. I was like you gotta be kidding be, he’s gonna be playing a sold out show in an hour and he’s roping a sawhorse 😂. Absolute cowboy for sure. Show was amazing and I hope to do that what he does day. He has changed country music for the better and I’m on board with it.

I took notice of Cody when he released ‘Ride With Me’! I was scanning KZread videos and found a live version at Steamboat Springs (I think) and that’s all it took! There was just something about the live performance that sucked me in! Is there a song he sings that you can’t relate to? By the time I tried to get tickets the friggin show was sold out! Damn….guess that’s a good thing! Love this guy!

Okay I’m going to say something that will probably tick some people off, but whatever. I was born and raised in Texas. Always loved Cowboys and ranching. Grew up on westerns and Audie Murphy war films. I always wanted a cowboy life, but frankly I was raised by my mother, who was widowed at 39 with five kids while living in a suburb of Dallas. We were poor. I wanted to join FFA but we were too broke for that to happen. I started working at twelve and eventually bought my first straw hat and second hand cowboy boots. Never got to work a ranch, and ended up spending my life in law enforcement. However, I finally moved my family to the country and helped my father in law with his thoroughbred racing horses. We loved the country life, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, helping friends and family with cows (still do today). Always wore hats, boots, jeans and loved country music. But I never rodeoed and was a real cowboy. Now I sing classic country for seniors and anyone else that will hire me at 60 years old. That’s an entirely different rabbit hole that I won’t go down right now. But I say this all to make a point. I enjoy Cody, his music, and the fact that he is real, true to himself. However, there are millions and millions of people just like me out there. When this Bobby Bones, whom I have no idea who he is or heard of, makes a comment about a real cowboy singer, it rubs me the wrong way. I know many, and I mean many hard core country folks that never rodeo’d, never owned a cow or a horse that love country music and earned their right to wear whatever the hell they want, including a hat and boots. I also know city folk that have country hearts, and wear hats and boots. I do. Albeit a small community, it’s still considered a city. You don’t have to be a “real cowboy” to identify with country music or wear western attire. Country is a state of mind, the person, it’s in the heart and character of a man or woman. It doesn’t always coincide with actually living on a ranch or rodeo. There are actually few that are lucky enough to live that life. Yes, I enjoy the farm today, rodeos and spent many hours in Texas honky tonks. I believe I can say earned my hat and boots. So, musicians have to understand if they want to become popular, even financially independent, their music has to touch the souls of folks that aren’t “cowboys” too. And lastly. I’m glad Cody mentioned his friend Jody. I hate it when I see interviews and the other musicians that helped make these folks famous never get recognized. There are some amazing musicians and talent out there that never “make it” so to speak. Take care of those musicians. They deserve an immense amount of credit and respect too, in my opinion. Best of luck, Cody and team.

Nice thing about social media, the out of touch old guy in charge don't control what sells anymore. Put yourself out there and let the fans decide, and thank god! We are getting 90s country Back. Don't get me wrong i like some of the pop country singers but they should be just that pop singers. Cody Johnson and Brandon Davis are gonna being music back like Trace Adkins and Garth Brooks

I can relate with Cody on the neck surgery issue. I fell off a 2 story house drunk as a skunk and didn't go get checked for 1 month. They had me in surgery within 2 hours and had to remove C-4, C-5, C-6 and C-7 disks that were ruptured and there were 2 vertebras that were spurred with fragments all over the spinal cord that they had to remove. 1st surgery was 8 hours 2nd was 6 hours. I was in a Halo for 6 months.
