Lyrics:
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
It wasn't no gun they held to my head
I got caught up believing in lies that were said
And in a moment of weakness
I stumbled, and I made my bed
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
There's 10, 000 reasons for you not to stay
And no one would blame you
If you want it that way
It might take some time
But I'll show you that I'm worth the wait
I'm not the devil you think that I am
It ain't no excuse, but I'm just a man
I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand
But I'm not the devil you think that I am
And I'll spend forever, do all that I can
To prove I'm not the devil you think that I am
And I'm not the devil

Mr. Jinks you've turned a light on and started casting a long shadow. I feel I met a friend when I discovered you in the wee hours of the night. Puffin and pickin was going on...then you came on next in my auto play. Showed my brothers your music and man... you could've heard a pin drop when the drone of the dreadnought called for order. Thanks for the inspiration to get my ass back in gear to write and perform... this....real music.

Mr Jinks, thank you Sir. I discovered this song at what is undoubtedly the lowest point in my 35 years. Im fighting like hell, harder than I fought in Iraq or Afghanistan, to show the woman I love and want to marry that Im not the devil she thinks that I am. Im also having to show myself the same thing. It ain't easy, and its my own damn fault. This song is helping me to keep fighting and push through the pain, the shit, and the fire. I salute you, I thank you, and I respect and admire you and your music, not the least because its real and authentic and obviously born from your own struggles. You are an inspiration.

Whether you like Justin Timberlake or not (I don't care much for his music) you cannot deny that he is a talented artist, and I don't see how you can lose respect for someone just because of who they performed with. It seems more that you are allowing your personal feelings about Mr. Timberlake to shadow the amazing talent Mr. Stapleton possesses, regardless of whom he performs with. Anyway, The White Buffalo is definitely worth checking out. Some of his music has country twangs to it, as well as Americana and folk, and his voice is just incredibly raw and beautiful.

Over and over again. Thousands of times I have heard this song, chills. When I seen Cody perform it at the Cabooze in MN the bar faded into the background the audience was hushed and the only lights were on Cody....the rest of the work disappeared and all I could see was the words of this song. All I could hear was his voice. I cried and didn't even realize it until after the song and the group asked me if I was ok. I swear it was a spiritual moment for me. Thank you Mr. Cody for writing such a beautiful soul awakening piece of music.

Chris Jinks. haven't listened to a new country song in some time now. you came up on my Spotify suggested songs right Ernest Tubb and Waylon. you fit right in and I appreciate what you are doing for music. I'm no musician, just a working stiff but, my old country and bluegrass helps me center myself and reconnect with my own self and the good Lord in the car ride home every day. thank you for some new tunes that actually speak something real. songs like yours have been missing from this country for too long now.

Mr. Jinks, you have restored my faith in Country music artists of this modern generation. Everything now rock/rap mixed and is nowhere close to the Country music I was raised on. You are on par with the likes of Jackson, Straight, Jones, Jr, etc. Thank you sir, you definitely have a new fan and follower.

I love Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and I thank him for never judging me and calling me the devil like other people did

I typically listen to metal - very heavy stuff - stuff like brutal death metal and Norwegian black metal, but I also love Cody's compositions. This latest album comes from that same place - deep down - that metal comes from. Of course, sonically, there are no similarities, yet Cody's music elicits the same response as my favorite metal artists - truly heartfelt music that speaks volumes.
