THANK YOU!! FINALLY
i just always feel like I'm holding my heart when i listen to cocorosie
This song will always remind me of the time when I was 14 a hurricane came through my area & knocked our power out for a week straight. It rained like hell the whole week & we had very little food. Luckily our tap still worked so we could drink & shower & such. But I digress, I had this song saved on my iPod & for some reason I listened it on repeat the whole week. I learned to play it on guitar by ear, I sat by my window & left it cracked so I could get some of the cool air flowing through my room. I remember drops landing on my face and the way it smelled. My mom & I would occasionally go out to her car to charge her phone & my iPod & we watched Grease & Donnie Darko on a portable DVD player that I had.
It was Cinco de Mayo Pillow case on his head No more breathing time An ambulance sped Sped 'round ever corner Calling out his name Shot a rabbit from the back seat window Sat and watched the summer corn grow Ate ice cream in a desert dream And got lost in father's singing Too hot inside Too hot outside Lazy days when I said let's go for a ride We'll sail on Spirit Lake Me, my pappy, and his lemonade Tim and Tina were my parents' names They got engaged They were inflamed Seduced by the light of butterflies How they shimmer, how they glimmer Those butterflies We seven kids We almost died Nearly put to death By lightening strikes Instead there was hot, pink Flashes in the sky We climbed the rocks, in snow and rain In search of magic powers To heal our mother's pain

"horrible lifeless music" that's the best description of this song and other music like it, say Bjork for example. It's just trying too hard to be it's own thing more than just being music. You can have a song be different or have a new style but when it goes out of it's way SOOO much and so hard, if anything it just shoves away most people and even the people it wants to attract. Like yelling at someone to get their attention but instead of yelling their name you just yell nonsense.

you have a soul that that is forever young. theres a language being spoken here that most of the people in the comments dont understand. as you watch the vid it speaks to you WHILE its playing.
9 years of listening to this!!! made me and my best friend have great memories for having them always in our background or on roadtrips
To me this is the best song ever written. You don’t have to agree with me because it’s subjective but I guess if your here you like the song too. There aren’t words to describe how it makes me feel. It’s a masterpiece of art. ❤️
I came up with a theory about the music video. I may be wrong but eh. I feel like its life and death's childhood years and they're singing what theyve experienced in their childhood. Notice how when death sings ( her voice is frail and dry) they're always old and seem to be on the verge of dying. But when life sings (her voice is beautiful and happy) they become younger and happier. They live by themselves in a house that represents the world and the man they were with as children is their dad who represents man (humans) and man is explaining to life and death the purpose of their existence which makes death sad causing her part of the singing to be depressing, whereas life likes her purpose so she's more joyous. Even if I'm wrong it's still interesting to think about dont you think? Oh almost forgot death sings about the sad parts of their childhood while life sings the happiest parts.

A song made with true love.
i totally love this so much. just want to lay in the grass with them in my earbuds and watch the sky
Finally, something original!!!!! New way to express so much talent, I LOVE THIS GENRE!!!
i have no words. this is such a masterpiece.
My interpretation of whatever this is, when its up beat it's showing what it was like being sold the American dream in the 50s, a black and white world where it's like a fantasy. Then the lower depressing part is waking up to how the world really is and trying to find some way to carry on in this cold grey world

Thx to the Alfa Romeo ad I was brouht here. Have been watching almost all the CocoRosie-vids here. It's such a mesmerising and enchanting way of music... gets me completely addicted. Can't tell what is doing with me.
13 years later I come back to song :)
This probably not what the song is supposed to be about but I keep getting similarities to the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980. The main thing for me is the "sailing on Spirit Lake" lines in the upbeat verses. Spirit Lake is a lake at the base of the mountain and was a popular tourist destination in the summers before the mountain erupted and collapsed into the lake, causing a mega tsunami over 800 feet tall the decimated the area around the lake, killing its popularity as a tourist destination . The happier verses are talking about the summers they used to spend at the lake. Then, back at the start of the song, it always "it was Cindo de Mayo". The eruption occurred on May 20-21, which is in the same timeframe as Cinco de Mayo. Also at the start of the song it says 'he' had 'no more breathing time', which could be an allusion to their father dying of ash asphyxiation. What were they doing at the mountain despite warning signs if the eruption? The singer says that Tim and Tina were good partners because of their mutual love for buttetflies, which in this case could represent nature as a whole. In real life, many nature enthusiasts and photographers were drawn to the mountain in order to a catch a glimpse of its beauty after word of a coming eruption came, and several ended up being trapped and killed when the eruption ended up being much larger than anticipated. Later, she says "we 7 kids nearly died, almost out do death by lightning strike, but instead there hot pink flashes in the sky." This is talking about how the 7 kids of Tim and Tina survived the initial eruption, and witnessed the lightning that occurred within the eruption column (a well documented event that happs in large volcanic eruptions), which appeared pink due to the ash, tephra, and pumice colliding against each other within the cloud. "Climbing the rocks through snow and rain in search if magic powers to heal our mother's pain" symbolizes the kids staggering through the ash and debris in order to find help for their mother, who was presumably killed in the eruption. Again, not likely that this is what the song represents, but that's what I gathered from it.
