On first watch, yes, and also on second, third… I’ve watched this movie five times and I’ve inconsolably cried all five times, plus with all the reactions I’ve watched too. One of the best, most bittersweet and wholesome films ever made. I love it ❤️‍🩹

Watching Rob watch this took me right back into the theater 😳🥺😅

the shot of héctor walking on the petal bridge is even sweeter when you realise that he's not only wearing new clothes, but also brand new shoes. since he's part of the family again, he finally has his own pair of rivera shoes 😭 - and just to sour the happy fact: poor héctor was only about 21 years old when he was killed, while his little baby grew up to be exactly 100 years old (she was around 3-4 years old when he left).

In the Mexican culture, there are 3 deaths. The first is when you actually die. The second is when the body disappears from sight (burial, cremation, etc). The third death is when there is no one alive that remembers you. That's why the ofrenda (offering altar) with pictures is so important; family stories are handed down.

I can never understand people who do not cry at this movie. Every time I ball my eyes out. And props to Rob for predicting the twists in this movie. Very clever! I also rewatch it every year around halloween. Such a classic.

Definitely a bitter sweet movie. As a Mexican, I’m glad the emotions of longing, grief, and commemoration to our loved ones were the core of the plot. The ones we lose are never really gone as long as we keep their memories and their love with us. Great reaction guys, I’m glad you appreciated this movie ❤

im not sure if anyones pointed this out yet but the “barking” at 40:35 are actually called gritos, which literally translates to yelling or shout. in mexican culture you hear them a lot in mariachi music but they are also used in moments of celebration or when you’re hyped up! like in that scene for example with miguel and hector :)

As a Mexican i can say its so nice to see a movie that actually shows respect to the culture and not a random stereotype of what they think the culture is. Day of the dead is very important it to us.

I'm a white American but my Hispanic friend invites me to her Day of the Dead gathering each year and it's always so special to me. Truly an heartwarming piece of Mexican culture.

Día de los muertos is coming up in a few days October 29th is usually when a candle is lit and you leave a cup of water for the ones who have been forgotten. October 30 is for those who passed away in an accident or didn’t have a meal before they passed so you light a new candle, add another glass of water, a piece of white bread. October 31st is for our ancestors, great grandparents, you add another cup, candle, and some fruit. Nov 1st is for the little angels, meaning those who passed away as babies, small children. At this point you add all the food and even toys as offerings/gifts.. Nov 2nd is for the older relatives who have passed, they come pick up their food and other offerings. We even add a path of marigold flowers or petals to guide them. Nov 3rd is when we say our goodbyes and ask them to come back next year. And we pick up all the food, clean etc… my mom celebrates each year and we put it up for my older brother who passed away when he was 2. In other parts of Mexico it’s only Nov 1-3 and in other parts it’s all month from what I’ve heard. But it’s seriously such a special time and tradition for us. Also to add my parents never let us look at the ofrenda when they’re there or take anything without asking the spirits first. It might seem silly to others but that’s just how we did it in my family.

I regret not watching Coco in theaters but I watched it on tv with my colombian parents and eventhough my mom isn't really a fan of animation, she loved it and my dad who I had never seen cry...shed tears when Miguel and Mamá Coco heartbreaking scene came up and it still makes me emotional just thinking about it. This movie is truly a treasure.

I remember watching this movie in theaters with my family. I love this movie so much it's one of my favorite Disney films and to my grandma who died 2 years after this movie came out because Mama Coco reminds me so much of her and since she's no longer with our family as rewatching the movie and the song ' remember me' hit so different after her passing. I miss my grandma but I know that she is in a better place 💙

My grandmother had alzheimers and when I tell you I bawled my eyes out when Miguel was singing to Coco and she had a small epiphany. I remember suggestin this movie to my boyfriend and then him trying to comfort me cause it crashed my soul. Such an amazing movie and the writing was so smart.

I remember watching this at the cinema when it first came out. It was my sister, parents and I watching it, needless to say, we cried. Having a grandmother with Alzheimer's made this movie really emotional and definitely touched my dad's heart. It's a realistic view on it, but with the whole film being pretty happy too and of course, full of Mexican traditions and great music, I couldn't love it more.

Pixar will always be top tier for animation and honestly the gold standard for storytelling the way that they pull so much death and you feel every characters emotions coco is up there I. Terms of Pixar I also think this film is in the category with up from Pixar as well I hope you react to more Pixar films in the future

The codirector is Mexican and they consulted with a lot of Mexicans as well for the cultural aspects

I really liked your reaction. One emotional fact: based on studies, music actually really helps people with dementia to remember things. That makes more emotional mama Coco's remembering.

the beginning of Up and the end of Coco: guaranteed tears. every time.

No surprise here, I loved your reaction So, xoloitzcuintle is the only known breed of dog to be originally from Mexico. For aztecs and mayas, the xoloitzcuintle was a guardian dog, and it would help the souls of the owners reach the afterlife. I think i read somewhere that they were even sacrificed and buried with their owners for that purpose. So that is why Dante could move from the world of the living to the world of the dead. Oh, and the underwater cave in which Miguel and Hector were thrown is called a “cenote” and both mayas and Aztecs would make human sacrifices to the gods in them, ergo why Ernesto threw them there. I loved that the movie captured these little pieces of our folklore and history so well in such way. I also loved the movie because it is exactly this way in which I imagined the souls of my family coming back to world in the day of the dead as a child, eating the food left for them, just walking around, readin the books they loved to read... I dont know, just really love this film

When it came out in theaters mostly Hispanic/Latin people filled the theater and we all cried all you could hear are the sniffles 😭 eyes balling, tears never ending it was such a great movie and about our culture happy you guys loved and felt all these kinds of emotions as well ❤🥺 loved your reactions!

So happy you watched this. I wanted to add a couple things to the conversation 1. There is an Aztec god of the dead that is represented by the Xolo dog. 2. When you see the panoramic of the land of the dead, you can see step pyramids at the base. 3. "Pepita" can be a nickname for Josephine, a general word for 'seed', and specifically a Mexican/Mexican-American word for 'pumpkin seed'. So I like to think that Imelda named the jaguar/ram/eagle alebrije the Mexican equivalent of "pumpkin" 4. The female artist, Frida Kahlo, is very famous, especially for her self portraits reflecting the dichotomy of Mexican womanhood and motherhood/miscarriage. 5. Personally, I was struck by the flashback to Hector playing for young Coco, because my daughter would reach out to touch my face in the same way.

My Mexican husband and father in law cried in the theater, they thought it was a beautiful tribute to their culture

Aww... Love that you guys aren't scared of showing vulnerability especially because it's genuine and natural. I really love watching your videos because the reaction component still allows the viewers to fully appreciate the movie or the show along with you guys while adding another layer of entertainment to the content; and without being overpowering and being too loud to the point where some parts of the movie/show are missed. Me and my brother, we watched this movie after our grandma's funeral. We did not know what it was about, we went in blindly. My God, it destroyed us, I was 24, my brother was 20, and we couldn't stop crying... But it is a beautiful movie and now I can watch it without "trauma"

Coco is the best wholesome Pixar film, I`ve ever watched. The whole movie made me ugly cried and I watched Encanto.

I remember watching this in the cinema and by the end when they turned the lights on everyone was just blowing their noses or covering their faces 😂 impossible not to cry watching it (also you guys should watch the book of life, is also an animated movie about el día de los muertos and it came out around the same time as coco!)

If you don't cry watching Coco you might want to check and see if you still have a soul intact.

I like when the guy just says "what did I miss?" I always think "well we saw a popular singer show his true colors as he tries to kill a child only to lie to us that he's a nice person only to then get taken away by a large cat spirit to throw him out of the stage like the scumbag he is and then get crushed by a bell just like he did before and now his career and reputation is destroyed forever so nothing much"

As a Mexican this movie gives me all the feels. Most people of my family of origin are deeply toxic and abusive (courtesy of my grandpa traumatising and spoiling people), except for my grandma and a couple other ones but I still can't help but become dehydrated from watching all of the pain, joy, loss and familial love and support. It's just such a good film.

To this day, no matter how many times I see that ending scene with coco, I always sob.

The part with his grandma at the end always shatters me.. I always remember my late grandma.. especially cause the movie came out right after she passed away.. thank you for reacting to Coco.. it's one of my favorite movies ever

Coco is actually a Pixar movie,released after it was bought by Disney, but a completely different team. That's why it's such a tearjerker. Compare Encanto to Coco and you can feel the difference. Encanto was developed by Disney animation. First time they released a movie with no real antagonist. It was pretty good, but definitely not a tearjerker.

I cried like a baby watching rob cry just like I did the first time I watched it 😅

If you look at Frida Kahlo’s art, you’ll understand her in this movie. She had quite the distinctive style, and Mexican themes and culture were paramount to her work. One of my favorite artists💜

I’m Mexican, went to see it opening weekend and you could hear everyone, and I mean everyone in the room sniffling. It is a precious ode to our culture and loved ones who have passed away ❤ Love the reaction guys. I could feel the pain in Rob’s face 😅

Loved that you guys loved it, it never fails to make me cry. I’m a teacher in south Texas and 98% of my students and myself are Latinos so I try to bring our culture into our classroom. My 11th graders look forward to the class Ofrenda that I put up each year. Many aren’t in touch with their culture anymore so we read about the history and they bring pictures and decorate a huge ofrenda and we share stories and laugh and have snacks. The Day of the Dead isn’t a sad holiday, we shed a few tears but we laugh so much while talking about our family members that have passed on. It’s important to remember those that came before us. Again, so happy you guys loved it!

This movie is absolutely amazing and such a blessing for the Mexican culture!! It was the first movie (since pretty women) to make my grandmother go out to the theater and we all cried our eyes out in a good way 💕💕💕 this representation was very much needed and has opened the door for so much more! Such a good movie! So funny how you guys kept figuring it out. So much emotion in the movie. Definitely makes me appreciate the Day of the Dead and Mexican heritage. For me, it made more and more sense regarding the Ofrenda's and keeping people alive in the afterlife through remembering them and having pictures around. Such a beautiful thing.

This movie is the reason why I started to love culture and I plan to study about them in the future.

The Frida calo part where she explains her act is such an in your face adult joke without being one but only Mexican people will get it.

Beautiful movie. Pixar has a way of making these beautiful, vividly colored appealing family movies but with a deeper message underneath, that if done right, hits you right in the soul. This movie got me good when I first watched it. Quarter box of Kleenex was required. Not sure if you’ve watched Pixar’s Inside Out or Up but I highly recommend either of those.

The reason Hector didn't disappear into final death when Coco died was because Coco shared her memory of him (and Imelda) with the entire family. Hector, Imelda, and Coco will be together as long as there's at least one Rivera family member who remembers that moment.

Rob and Bryce had me sobbing at the end- ❤

A lot of people missing that (me included. I knew it after watching a KZread video on the movie) that Dante ate some food that Miguel threw him, which also made him technically desecrate someone's altar that made Dante cursed and moved to the land of the dead too.

I think Ernesto will be stuck, alive, under that bell because he's already dead! He's trapped until no one remembers him, but that will be a long time because I bet a lot of his fans around the word don't know the truth and continue to put up his picture.

this was such a great movie. the ending always manages to make me cry, i remember bawling the first time i saw it. ive really enjoyed the animated movies that's been coming out, they give such great insight on the different cultures.

I remember watching this in Mexico a month before It’s release in USA. Not a dry eye in the house, I’ll never forget the group of teenage boys next to me crying and whispering amongst themselves “wtf man this hits hard.” 😂

As a Hispanic this movie just hits the souls every time I watch so many stories you hear as a child about the day of the dead and the afterlife and then they make a movie about it 😂🤙🏽

I was on an international flight once and decided to watch this film. I cried my butt off! 14 hours later, I walked off the plane and realized that I had mascara running down my face. It was pretty embarrassing. 🤦‍♀️

Long before my grandma passed away I watched this movie and the scene with Miguel and Mama Coco made me cry so much. Watching this scene after my grandma's passing made me sob even more😭 Honestly there isn't a day I don't think of her. She wasn't perfect but she was my Lola.

I feel like the family, grief and loss means so much to people regardless of background and this movie explored that so well and explored/explained Dia de los Muertos. I knew I would be bawling through the movie when Chicharron died. Even watching this reaction had me tearing up again. The end when Hector goes for his picture and he looks so nervous that it's not going to go through, omg tears. I'm so glad you guys liked it!

The way i wish i was born mexican mostly because of this movie 😭

Such a beautiful film- from the art, animation, the message. I get choked up everytime I hear remember me. Dementia is such a difficult thing for a person and family to deal with. For that song to bring Mama Coco's memory back even momentarily was such a wonderful thing

Gotta watch The Book of Life too! It's also an animated movie about mexican culture/day of the dead and it's amazing. Channing Tatum is one of the voice actors lol and it's produced by Guillermo del Torro.

How an ofrenda works: Add a picture of your relative, plus items of food, drink, possessions they liked when they were alive. This is why in the movie you see so much food along the table. We say that if for example; your relative loved tequila! You pour them a shot and during the night of the holiday, they will come back, feast, eat, have a party like the many we have in Mexico. As for the ‘spirit guides’ Dante is a xolo dog, breed which in Mexico is a literal guide for the dead to reach afterlife. I love how this movie respect every detail and time was taken to really learn our culture and history! Don’t be fooled, almost every character we see at De la Cruz’ party is a real historical figure in Mexico. Even the arrivals building is based off of the Palace of Mail, located in Mexico City

Fun Fact: iirc, sound is one of the last senses a person loses over time, and also fun fact #2: music/sound is integrated with memories, meaning that just listening to a piece of music will make you recall the memories associated with it (even with Alzheimer’s). This is why at the ending, Coco instantly remembers Hector when Miguel plays music (and specifically the “Remember me” song which was associated with her papa, Coco) even though she was 100 and hadn’t seen him since like 4 years old and even when she had already basically forgotten all about him. Pretty neat, huh?
