No it was not! The Coca Cola Co. asked Root Glass Co. , their contractor for bottles, to design a bottle that looked like a Coca leaf in 1915. The Root glass engineers designed a wasp-waisted bottle based on the outline of the Coca bean instead. The patent for that bottle was granted November 15, 1915. It was unfortunately top heavy , it wouldn't stand up strait in automated bottling machinery, so the modified design only went into production in 1919. The 1915 patent only covered the prototype design, so Root glass was issued a new patent on December 25, 1923. Patent number 105529. Owens Glass and Illinois glass merged in 1926 to form the Owens-Illinois Corporation, and they bought Root Glass Co. True "Hobble Skirt" Coke bottles are those made between 1919 and 1964. My examples have 1923, 1927, 1940 and 1944 date codes. The early ones display the 1915 patent date, later ones the 1923 patent date, WW2 and Korean war era ones the patent number, and the final ones simply "Registered U.S.P.O." . Date codes on Root Glass bottles are on the heel. Date codes on Owens-Illinois bottles are on the wastes across from the lot number with the "Saturn" Mark in between. To date Hobble skirts, and differentiate the date from lot number, you have to match a plausible production date to what you read on the shoulder.

Oddly enough my paternal Gramps was the same age, he had fought in the first episode of the Bannana Wars the year before, in Vera Cruz. Corporations make money. They say what they've got to to make profit for their investors. Root Glass modeled the Coke bottle on a coca bean picture from the Encyclopedia Britannia.

I love every inch of this! It almost feels like a vision of the 18th century through the lens of the 1910's. Charming and effortless in its execution. It's clear what it's supposed to be without being tacky-- well done indeed!

I ADORE that this is a little tongue-in-cheek with the bottles and sash and as always a little meme-y...but then you also just look completely STUNNING and look like you just stepped out of a Coca Cola advertisement...the range you have...

As soon as I saw those bottle caps I was like “oh those would be great earrings or choker pendant” at least she ended up including a choker in the look:) probably wouldn’t be able to see earrings with the hair and hat anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️
