Cobra Mach 1 valve cover removal and tips 4.6 dohc 32v

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Please watch through, I just remove these and let me tell you it was a pain in the ass. DON'T REMOVE the driver engine mount. Just go the booster route. Thanks to Danny Johnson for the tip and svtperformance forum for the Faster cylinder tip.

Man I was laughing to myself the whole time I watched your video. Every time you said it was a pain in the ass I just remember doing it myself and it IS a pain in the ass! Fortunately for me, my AC pump was out when I did the passenger side so I didn't have to mess with the intake but if my AC wasn't already out I think the passenger side tip would have really helped. Also, you are 100% right on, unbolting the hydrobooster is the way to go on the drivers side.

I have a 2003 MACH1 AT with 31,496 miles on it. While getting an oil change at my Ford dealer was told that my valve cover gaskets were leaking. Repair estimate was $1,541 which was mostly for 8hrs of labor. I asked to see the leak but they had already took it off the lift. After I posted a non-five star review was called by a service manager and asked to come back in to see the leak. What I saw was at that point only minor seepage, which they agreed with. Because of the high cost I got other estimates which were much less . I had one for $832 which they said they would do it for. When I showed them they said maybe they used the the wrong 4.6L engine and also suggested that the exhaust manifolds had to be removed. Not from my reserch. I have no signs of leaks on the floor, any burning or smoke or engine lights and no drop in oil level after a month. Since it doesn't appear to be an emergency I am still doing reserch and trying to get a lower repair estimate.

I'm rebuilding my engine, I got my passenger side down to the pistons and my driver side is just now getting the valve cover off, lol. 43k miles is baby miles but running low on oil makes you burn valves and pistons :c. At-least we have an excuse to go forged internals now and get some boost later since 01 cobras was all cast.

No not necessary BUT alot of mechanics will tell you they put silicone on the inside of the gasket to hold it in place of the valve cover. the silicone helps to keep the gasket in place, as well as sealant. Hope that helps

  • @Dr.LandCruiser

Yeah those valve covers were a complete nightmare, I dropped the K member while doing long tube headers and even after dropping the K member and lowering the motor A LOT, it was still a struggle, got the covers off to replace tube seals and while at it painted the valve covers myself and I'm regreting it, should have had them professionally power coated because my paint job turned out to be shit even after spending plenty of time on prepping. Now I'm debating if it's worth it getting covers off again just for paint and its def NOT worth it.

The answer is yes. The fuel lines will have to come off and as for me I also pulled the upper plenum off with the throttle body together. My job included removing the lower intake to replace the runner gaskets and upper intake manifold gaskets. No problemo there. After that you will need to muscle the valve cover off and of course all the linkage cables for the throttle body first. The driver side is a different story. Looks like I will have to loosen the booster assy for clearance to pull the driver valve cover off.

@@ART_BUILTT you do have to remove the Black hydrobooster for this job. it is truly a bitch lol. you have to get one of the bolts from the inside of the dashboard, you gonna have to get into an ackward position to remove that bolt. The other bolt you have to get from the engine bay, I believe I used a metric wrench and was able to break it loose but keep it mind that it will be very hard to grab the bolt from the inside, so expect to struggle for 20-30 mins getting the one inside the engine bay. Now what I just shared with you is to remove the hydroboost from the fire wall. If you are trying to separate the master cylinder from the hydroboost then that's a different story and is much much easier. Hope this helps
