148 GTL DX with a 575 m6 teardrop mic. Can't go wrong. I love my mk 1😊 had to change out its lazy needle though

Actually, I kinda prefer the other s/rf meter. I don't really think it renders the meter innacurate. That doesn't mean that the OEM meter is better or worse, I do like them both. Looking at my Yaesu, it's +20 +40 +60 past S9. The only difference is the +30 scale and there's definitely some degree of tolerance wrt these s/rf meters. I love the job you did with the radio and the review.

I have a Cobra 148 GTL also,I am trying to figure out how to put in a paradynamics 256 frequency counter. It only has the basic power cord positive and negative, with the single coax shield and center conductor.any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you swap out stuck the meter, do you have to calibrate the new one?

No sir.. As long as the needle rests on zero when the radio turned off you are just fine.

With factory parts the radio should slide about 2kc up and 3kc down. With swinger diodes and chokes they easily slide 5kc + up and 12kc down. I ended up using a 10-turn pot on mine. I also had a counter and 99 channel kit.

well iv done some repairs but iv never found the bulbs i hear the led puts static in the rx ..so i wanna see about incandescent can you shed some light on this lil subject

I have not had any issues using a LED, personally I'm 50/50 on LED bulbs. Depends on the radio and if I want it to look stock or upgraded. Check out 6 Star supply on Ebay for bulbs and meters. They are great to work with. Cheers

I have a bad swr on my old unit how much does that run to have a shop fix or am I better off doing it myself

IMO.... Yes! I like the +2, SSB, +3, +3B (all base mics) much better than the 104s. Not a fan of the Super Sidekick and Expander 500. Owned all of above, so no folk lore. Again IMHO... Cheers my friend.
