Sydney Carter is a prominent and distinguished, former professional basketball player and coach. She played college basketball at Texas A&M University, where she played along Sydney Colson and San Antonio Stars center Danielle Adams and helped the Aggies win the NCAA title during her junior year. Sidney Carter was selected in the third round of the 2012 WNBA draft (28th overall) by the Chicago Sky. She was an Assistant Coach in the 2021-2022 season at Texas A&M and is now the Director of Player Development for women’s basketball at The University of Texas.

Sidney Carter was born on born November 18, 1990 in Dallas Texas. She has made significant contributions to the sport both as a player and as a coach. The former WNBA player is now a player development coach for her alma mater, but her basketball journey didn’t start in College Station. It began about 200 miles north at the age of 4 years where her family’s support played a crucial role in her development as an athlete. Her early exposure to the sport laid the foundation for her future career. Sydney carter started playing locally on an all-boys team in Dallas, Texas, at the YMCA around her homestead. She was not good at dribbling during her first basketball games. She was travelling the whole game. With a lot of determination, she managed to improve her game throughout her time at DeSoto High School in DeSoto where she attended for her education.
Sydney Carter played college basketball for Texas A&M University after graduating from DeSoto. Her game improved enough to catch the attention of Coach Gary Blair who nurtured her to become a contributing member of one of the most legendary groups of women to sport the maroon and white threads. She was a two-time Big-12 Freshman of the Week and was MVP of the Dallas regionals in her junior year. She was also a three-time team captain and defensive anchor for the A&M defense and earned her a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team in 2011 and 2012. Carter also won her team's Miss Defense Award three times, in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2011, she helped her team win the national championships. She also won the Miss Aggie Award at the end of her senior season.
Sydney Carter then declared for the WNBA Draft and was selected in the third round of the 2012 WNBA draft, 28th overall by the Chicago Sky. On March 18, 2013, she signed a training camp contract with the Atlanta Dream, but was cut before the start of the regular season. She later signed with the Connecticut Sun on June 10, 2013.
Carter had a good stint playing basketball overseas. In the 2014 season, Carter began playing overseas in Latvia, where she became a three-time Latvian/Estonian Champion in 2014, 2016 and 2017, as well as an Eastern European League champ in 2016. She also had a short stint playing in Israel, in an overseas career spanning seven years. In 2018, she would then suffer a meniscus tear that marked the end of her playing career.

In July 2020, Carter was recruited into the coaching staff of the Texas A&M Women's Basketball team, as the Video Coordinator, by head coach Gary Blair. With the discipline and willingness to continue to work hard every day, and doing right things repeatedly in her career made her great. In April 2022, she was hired for the position of director of player development for the University of Texas Women's Basketball team.
