Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant: Grandmaster of Mind Over Matter

Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough talks about legendary Alabama football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. In this presentation, "Coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant: Grandmaster of Mind Over Matter," on Nov. 11, 2011 to the Gulf Coast Athletic Club, McCollough answers the questions and mysteries behind the coach's success in winning football games and in preparing young men to be winners in the game of life. McCollough, who is a successful surgeon, teacher, author and motivational speaker in Gulf Shores, Ala., played center on Bryant's 1964 National Championship team and later served as one of Bryant's doctors and confidants.

There was only one Paul "Bear" Bryant! This speech tells 46 of the reasons why...the "Grand Master", he was and still is. Coach Bryant will always be alive and well in the hearts and minds of all who ever had the privilege to meet or even know of him. He was and still is "a legend"! WE can still see you leaning against the goal post during warm-ups, hounds tooth hat in place, unless he was playing "inside". Mama told him to never wear his hat "indoors", and that included the Superdome. These will never be another, even though Coach Saban is the spitting image, has the same standards, teaches the same processes and prepares his players to be prepared for LIFE. We still love you and will never forget you! You were a man's man, a man of honor, a man of his word and a man of few words, though those words were always thoughtful and profound.

as a swimming recruit to univ of alabama in spring 73, i was privileged to meet coach bryant (probably b/c he and my dad knew each other; my dad coached miss state when coach bryant was at kentucky. i vividly recall the encounter 40yrs later. i didn't choose alabamaa - went to lsu instead - but remain grateful to then bama coach don gambrel and coach bryant for the opportunities they extended to me

To say this was epic would truly be an understatement! Thank you so much for sharing it. I'm a better person for merely listening.

Teague, George Teague is the player who ran down the Miami player and took the ball away from him....not Antonio Langham.
