If Khayla were to have initiated contact as you decree, why is it that the Kentucky player made contact first? Nor did the Kentucky player give space for KP to land. This was not a James Harden leg kick or a Steph Curry / Trae Young shoulder jump in. This was a Kentucky player breaking into an LSU player's cylinder who is going straight up and down. I've watched this replay numerous times and still see no leg extension to draw contact. I've watched every LSU basketball game this season and that's Khayla's normal jumpshot. I used to referee basketball and was a LHSAA high school ref, passed the test with a 91 in 1995. The action is fast out there and if the ref misses the call, there is no way to blow your whistle 5 seconds later. What seems like a foul to the coach is not a foul to the referee. Reviewing the tape about five times, I would say there was no foul. It seems like a foul because the girl ended up on the floor but she ended up on the floor due to her recoil motion.

It is a poor camera angle but if you watch the slow motion at 3:46, the shooter's feet are well behind the 3 point line when she leaves the floor and she appears to come down on the 3 point line along with the defender's feet. This tells me she is jumping slightly forward while jumping up. My question is: How much "verticality" is a shooter entitled to if they are not jumping straight up? The official that made the no-call and got Mulkey's ire was in perfect position on the baseline to make what appears to be a difficult call.

If you really watch it was pretty obviously not a foul, and gladly in the last year they've stopped giving these types of "who initiated contact" toss ups automatically to the offense. Idk what her intentions were with all the winning, but no matter, she was out of line.

I would love to see a coach get as upset about racism as they do with bad calls. I'm not saying coaches are not against it, but I've never ever seen a coach go ballistic over racism. It always calm and measured. Sometimes you gotta fight for what's right and be pissed about it.

@king 720s…. It was a foul. The defender didn’t just jump up and down it, she came into the shooting space of the offensive player. It’s a foul and a blatant one at that. More and more refs are doing this on every level.
