CNN's Jim Sciutto | Russia, China, and the Next World War

CNN Chief National Security Correspondent Jim Sciutto provides a compelling analysis of the new global competition unfolding before us. Drawing on his firsthand reporting from political hotspots and warzones worldwide, Sciutto offers a unique perspective on the evolving state of global affairs.
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the world has undergone profound changes. As the Ukraine war began, Sciutto remarked that we are now in a "1939 moment," signifying a fundamental shift in the global order. With great powers reasserting themselves and vying for dominance, the ramifications of this new order will be felt worldwide. The peace has been disrupted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, impacting regions from Helsinki to Beijing, from Australia to the Arctic. This conflict spans multiple domains, including the Arctic, oceans, skies, and cyberspace.
Sciutto argues that we are witnessing the resurgence of great power conflict, marking a decisive departure from the post-Cold War era. He delves into the increasingly aligned Russian and Chinese governments and the potential for a new global nuclear arms race. As uncertainties loom, the question remains: Can the West, Russia, and China prevent a new world war? Join Sciutto as he navigates the complexities of this new, uncertain era.

As an American the problems abroad just don’t have much sway over my fellow citizens. Most people that I talk to admit that yes what Russias doing is wrong but they just don’t see how this has anything to do with their lives here. We’re also just really bad at thinking long term and what the consequences of Russia slowly getting away with these land grabs will be. I wish more people in my country took this serious, and I appreciate those like Jim Sciutto putting in work to spread the history and the importance of not letting Putin, or any other dictator for that matter, win these battles. Wish we could have peace.

America is the problem. US led covert and overt meddling, regime change operations, war and sanctions. Riding roughshod over International law. (Excluding Ukraine and Gaza) statistically 4.5 - 4.7 million people have been killed in post 9/11 US war zones; over 38 million people have been displaced. Tens of thousands have been deprived of vital treatments/medications due to US sanctions. What was Madeleine Albright's statement on the deaths of 500.000 Iraqi babies due to US sanctions? It was a difficult decision but we think it was worth it. The Wolfowitz doctrine/Project for the New American Century, be damned.

A really insightful and sobering interview. Jim Sciutto has been able to peel back the layers of propaganda, patriotism and belief to tell the story of what’s really happening in geopolitics.

Trump acts an awful lot like a Russian operative would in his position.

Thank you, it was very instructive. I’ve always wondered why the Ukrainians allowed the Russian troops to withdraw from Kherson with no losses. Could it be the price Ukraine had to pay to allay the nuclear threat?

Living in Germany andbeaten with the nationality, I thank you for your investigation and information. So interesting to learn about another point of view. Most important to me is that the citizens in the US vote blue in November. In my opinion the US is THE strong member of NATO, DT wants to leave NATO and is a bad diplomat (not clever enough for diplomacy). So the possibility for being torn into a big war, would be more realistic. To Hitler, there are still old Nazis saying Hitler did good things, and if you ask they start to talk about the motorways and the rapid decline of unemployment. Actually in 1939 the wages have been lower than in 1932, and the aim of all the infrastructureplans was to react more on point and effectivly to send tanks to places where they were needed. Good for Germany I doubt that. Sadly the fascist movement in Europe especially in Germany is growing and must be seen as a dangerous component to our democracy and our individual freedom and liberty. This is something the US and Europe has in common. Still , I sometimes cannot believe all this right wing stuff is happening , within my tiny naive, fantasy world I thought people would be aware of what it means to live in a dictatorship, especially in the eastern part of Germany. But in the former eastern part the fascist, right wing movement is booming, unbearable and understandable.
