Cnidarians

Ғылым және технология

Cnidarians were the first animals to have muscles and nerves to produce behavior. They were also the first to have a mouth and stomach to digest food. We learn about nematocysts when we watch an anemone catching a goby and two anemones fighting. Cnidarians come in various body shapes and have different ways of living. Corals are cnidarians that build reefs...

"Cnidarians rely on special cells: cells called 'nerves.'" Nerves are not cells. Nerves are made of multiple cells called 'neurons,' often referred to by the layman term 'nerve cells." It is incorrect to refer to nerves as "cells" as the narrator here does.

@@brento2890 A "nerve" refers to a group of axons going from one neuron to another. The group is usually many axons in a bundle, but can be a single axon (meaning the appendage of a single neuron). Jackson Reynolds is partly correct in that "It is incorrect to refer to nerves as 'cells'." A nerve is a part of a cell or the same part from many cells. The key problem with Jackson's claim is that nerves do NOT require several neurons. People shouldn't start swinging their dicks around the second they grow their first pube.

Cnidarians are also called coelenterates. They are tissue level of organisation, radial symmetry, diploblastic, acoelomates without notochord. Cnidoblast capture prey, for defence etc. Contain gastro vascular system with a single opening, mouth on hypostome. Have two types of bodies, polyp and medusae. Digestion is extracellular and intracellular. Eg, Portuguese man of War (physalia), adamsia(Sea anemone), pennatula(Sea pen), Sea fan(gorgia), meandrine(coral brain). Skeleton made of calcium carbonate. Posses metamerism.
