CNE Opening Day 2023! | Toronto Walk (Aug 18)
An opening day walk around the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.
I walk through the midway past numerous rides, games and food stalls and eventually find my way into the Food Building.

That’s the type of dad I’ll be can’t lie 😅😅 poor kid was just chilling
Big rides scary. I will leave the wild & exciting rides for the younger . Scary for me. Love the Air Show. 😊
I loved the video Johnny. I used the visit The Ex every year when I was a kid. I'm 60 now and haven't been in decades. It sure has changed a lot. You said your standby meet up spot was the bell tower, which may or may not be still called the Carlsberg Carillon. Our meet up spot was the now long gone Bulova Clock Tower near the east end of the old Exhibition Stadium. The stadium used to host Blue Jays games in the afternoon and concerts in the evening. We would always pop into The Food Building for lunch. Back then I remember it being very cheap. Not so much now. Although I was shocked to see the Primo pasta booth was still offering spaghetti and sauce for $1.99. That’s only a dollar more than it was in the 70s! Shockingly good value. I see they still have The Polar Express ride where you sit in a car and zoom backwards at high speed. That was one of my favourites along with the bumper cars and the funhouses. I also remember that admission to Ontario Place was included. We'd always make our way over to see an Imax film at the Cinesphere. Who remembers North Of Superior or Nomads Of The Deep? And I always liked to be there for Labour Day Weekend so I could see the air show. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for taking us to the CNE Johnny, now we don't have to go😅
Awesome guess on the Age Game..42, very good. 👍
Have not been to CNE since my kids were little they are in their 40s now, maybe in a few more years they will take me. I am from Ottawa, up there its the CCEA ( Central Canadian Exhibition Assoc.). Way back when my Mom worked at Tiny Tom Donuts and would bring home some MMMMMMM.
Yesterday CNE was the best and was a blast!!!
good morning everyone

@@GurdeepSinghDyal I don't know.
As many say on here, use to go all the time. Sure has changed. Now that I'm older, this is the way I prefer to view the Ex. No rubbing shoulders. No line ups. Of course ; I might get a bit hungry. Lol. Holy Mackeral, I have to pay $7 ++ for a pkg of Hot Dogs. Doesn't taste like a hot dog at the Ex. ❤ ❤ love this video. Not into wild rides . Enjoy 💕
I was an usher at the Bandshell in 1979. Hourly wage $2.25/hr. Bought my first Technics stereo from the Better Living Centre, $350. It was the first year of the portable VCR. And by portable I mean it weighed 25 pounds and cost $2000. I can still remember the display clearly. People were amazed!
I know I’m a few weeks late. I went went every year to the CNE as far back as I can remember. After the first couple of years of being married, my husband at the time refused to go and with 3 toddlers, it was difficult to go on my own with the little ones. Once we separated, it became a tradition for me to go on opening day with the kids. Opening day, entrance is cheaper and they always have a special for the rides, so I always made a point to go on the first day. Now the kids are in their late teens early 20’s and we still make a point of going. Although, this year we didn’t go on opening day. However, to the dismay of my kids, I still manage to get a picture of them in front of the water fountain. Good times 💕🇨🇦
I saw my daughter and I at the swings at 14:05. She was in line and I was under the tree. It was a great day for rides. She got on so many in the first two hours (from 12-2). We took a break to eat and look around and then did more at night.

Cool. Would have been great if you ended up face-to-face with Johnny. 😊
Thanks for the 2023 walk through of the ex! It gave me a great overview of it and helped me decide I won't be attending. Every year the Cne looses attractions or is always the same stuff. The midway gets smaller yet the prices get outlandish and greedy. Sadly the cne is pretty much done for what it stood for.
Awesome video. I don't know if it will ever happen but maybe one day my wife and I will decide to make the trip up from NE Ohio to check this out.
Great video, I went to the CNE back in 2000. Greetings from the UK.
Thanks for sharing
I'm hoping to go back, after so many years, for the airshow. It would be especially special if i do this year with my wildlife camera setup, i should be able to get really good shots. Johnny is 2 years my senior. Never would uave thought.
Thank you, I’m seeing City & Colour tonight at Budweiser Stage and I just got an email telling me that my ticket also includes free CNE access so this was a good peak into what to expect!
Really enjoyed the video of CNE. Would love to see another video from here. You look younger than 42.😊
Lovely content video and gorgeous filming edition captured .. TQSM Sir
I plan to go to the CNE on September 2nd with my friend!
Enjoy the rides while it's still fun!
I had a blast at CNE yesterday. Yes I did pre drink and had a stash outside the gates :) The bandshell concert was a hoot and the cheap ride tickets were fantastic.

I have a question…On labour day, the gates close at 5 pm. Does this mean no entry after 5? And most of the things like ground and buildings close at 9pm..so they start evacuating you before 9? Or you get to enjoy a little longer than the time mentioned?
My parents took us to The EX for 20-something years straight. It was our big summer holiday event. Have not been in probably 15 yrs. Thinking about a solo trip over the weekday next week..still unsure. Hope this video makes up my mind :)
I will be going a couple times this year iliked your video
Great video Johnny
For a lot of the rides being down is it's the first day and doing maintenance checks. But all carnivals do this to give ride operators a brake and then later in the day they will be open for riders. They are there for almost 10hrs a day working the rides so that's why they close them and test them.
🎉 Great , thank you really enjoyed seeing this 👍😎
LOL. That was great. BTW I am surprised you didn't shake that guys hand after he guessed your age to the 'Year.' I would never have guessed you to be 42 Johnny but you are still many years young than me so take solace in that fact...😉
Good morning Johnny! Thanks for the awesome tour around the CNE during Opening Day! Have a great Saturday everyone!

Hey Johnny. Great video of the Ex I went last about 5 years ago. Live the tiny Tom donuts too I’d always get them also the ice cream waffles 🧇. Not sure if those are still around Back in late 80s early nineties we kept our boat at Ontario Place I remember many visits to the Ex for rides concerts Nice memories. Like you And the games there was always some stuffed animal I just had to have then had to carry the thing around lol 😆 I liked the building with all the different countries good to sell I think the international building These last few years I haven’t gone mostly because not into rides much like u anymore Overpriced really But I think if you go after 5pm. It’s still cheaper. Anyhow. Many great memories Thanks for taking the time to shoot this givin everyone a glimpse of CNE today 😎

They still have Tiny Tom's and ice cream waffles. You're right about most things being overpriced there. It's definitely not what I remember from the 80's or even 90's.
A like Toronto
I started coming to the CNE since I was a baby in the early 1970's. although now I havent been in about 20 years and currently live in Mexico. this summer I am bringing my Mexican girlfriend to Canada for the first time and our dates line up making it possible to check out the CNE! it's not as great as it used to be but still a pretty good representation of Toronto culture. one thing I hate is they killed the vice of the Food Building with where they built the soccer stadium. the front entrance there used to be iconic with the original Hockey Hall of Fame across the street. now it looks like an abandoned alleyway. anyways, thanks for the video. nice to know what to expect.
This same guy guessed me at 235 lbs on opening day and i was 310 lbs on guess your weight and age game, passed with flying colors 🤣
The guy was amazing guessing ur age 😂

No but that one kid that just got you flipped to the ground of that waggon
Hi, thanks for sharing your visit. Is the air show ticket included in the general pass or is it supposed to be purchased separately?

Separate but you can just look up in the sky during the air show dates.
I seriously hope the little boy is okay. He fell on hard ground. These wagons are not safe. I don't know how anyone can laugh at that. Otherwise, thank you Johnny for another great video.

Is 42 metric for something?
We have these things in USA also. They're called state fairs or county fairs.
Johnny, just be glad he didn’t say 47.
Our PNE opened aug 19th its closed mondays is yours closed on mondays
Can we park our car there?
Did you know it's actually the "Princes' Gates" named in 1927 when it was learned that Prince Edward and Prince George would be visiting. So it's named after two Princes, not a Princess. I know every media uses the same incorrect pronunciation. 🙄
@JohnnyStrides

I knew that, hence why I didn't call it the Princess Gates ;P A lot of people don't though, you're right on that.
42? You mean like 32, surely? 😏
Hi
9.5 out of 10 JS
The fair has lost it's luster for me over the years. The CNE was the bomb back in the sixties and early seventies where the barkers wore striped shirts and bow ties and top hats, the smells of corndogs and cotton candy wafted through the mid summer air, the sounds and music and the rides of the Midway were mesmerizing and the Bulova Clock tower was iconic. The people attending the CNE would be dressed to the nines. My favorite memory was of my dad taking me and buying me really cool souvenirs sold at the time; toy monkeys on strings, big long horns you can blow and it would sound all around the fair, toy kazoos, yo-yo's and great prizes won at the bean bag throws, wack-a-moles and air gun targets. I remember actors doing gigs there i.e. The Three Stooges, Elvis Presley, Danny Kaye to name a few. I been there a couple of years back and it just ain't the same no more.
Taste of manila today

Thanks for these videos, Johnny. I always enjoy going to the ex on opening day, especially when it's not busy. Old favourites are ice cream waffles and corned beef sandwiches and the sky ride with its great views. The age guessing game never fails to entertain me. 😊🎡🎪🎢
It's the same shit every year and everything is overpriced.
