Today we'll be looking at CNC Vbits for Beginners.
We'll be looking 5 different types of CNC router bits also known as V-Bits or VGroove Bits:
- 1/4 90 Degrees CNC Bit
- 1/4 60 Degrees CNC Bit
- 1/8 60 Degrees CNC Bit
- 1/8 90 Degrees CNC Bit
- 1/8 120 Degrees CNC Bit
These CNC bits are usually the first you'll encounter when starting CNC Woodworking.

I'm new to cnc routing, I'm used to metal working miller's, so I'm just getting my head around it all. So your videos are great, very well executed and actually show what needs to be shown to 👌 Keep it up pls, as its helping me out already. Cheers dude

Nice production quality. What's missing is the depth of cut, depth per pass and nice to have would be feed rate.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't add feeds and speeds because they vary so much depending on the materials you're cutting.

@peterbloch5590 Yes,of course, feeds and speeds vary so it was only a "nice to have". However, depth of cut is independent of any machine so you could still mention what you used on your machine. Thanks

Thank you for that detailed explanation on V bits, can you tell me do I need run a higher speed with a 90 degree bit over say a 60 degree since the 90 cuts more material

Thanks, Colin. I'm using the default Feeds and Speeds in Carbide Create, which seem to be the same for both bits. I also have both bits set the recommended setting of 3 on my Dewalt router.

This is ridiculous😂 naming video "... for beginners" and cannot provide feed rpm and doc, saying that you use some default settings😂😂😂😂

Carbide Create or Vectric Aspire are the 2 programs I work in. The first one is free.

Out of curiosity, how deep of a cut did you go with these bits? I find that the 60° bit 1/4in shank gives some great results. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't set the depth for any of these, I just use the software defaults for v carving. Agreed, 60 degree 1/4" bit is great.

Hi, just a quick question how do you measure the tip of v bit when the seller doesn't know ?

  • @MakeTechCreate

Do you mean the angle? Or across the cutting edges? Most software should tell you where there measuring points are.

Well, you can go as deep as the bit allows. The depth will depend on your project and your needs.

Bit vary greatly in price. I get most of my bits from Amazon.
