I was always taught that techs are QUALIFIED to do more than CNAs but from what I've seen it's not translating to that on MY unit. It could be the unit I work, the shift I work or just the people I work with IDK. Post your thoughts on the topic and I can do a more in-depth video about it.

It's not just you. I'm in Arkansas, and in the hospital, techs are not that efficient.

I started in the hospital and I always was helping my techs throughout the shift. Some are amazing but most you have to do your job plus theirs. After my year at the hospital I'm now in LTC and I don't do any tech work at all. I can say oh the cna will be in to help. Idk if it's the work load acuity. But you'd thin cnas have more patients so they'd need more help. Nope. 🤷🏾♀️

Did she say came out the cement formed into a person then started wrkn? put the streets hahahaha. Really though I kinda forgot my gal fav nurse b when au subscribed months ago and NEVER got any notice until today !! Bing now me hooked again
I’m a pct on a surgical floor and I take out foleys, drain JP’s, ekgs, put on telemetry boxes, scd’s, blood sugars, not to mention toileting, linen change, walking patients, in and out the nutrition room, answering call lights and doing any other responsibilities that come with the job. I’ve been trained to do a bladder scan but most of the time, I have so much responsibility the nurse has to do it.

Same here! We do a lot! We help with rapids and do compressions during codes. Transfer patients all over the hospital, help with admissions, ect. And keep a good attitude towards patients and coworkers while doing it!
I Took my NCLEX last week (second attempt) and passed with 145 questions! Ms Clara’s review materials was very very helpful to me. For anyone that failed the Nolex, don't loose hope, I know many awesome nurses who passed the test on their 3rd and even 4th try.

@@TracyHills-vk4gz Just say "I haven't passed yet." Don't take it as a failure but see it as a learning opportunity. There is a lot of power in "Yet"; you are telling yourself that you will get there and that your eyes and heart are still fixed on your goal.
I am currently in community college to get my LPN certificate but my goal is to become an RN and I work as a DSP caring for the developmentally disabled community. I have followed your journey and because of your history I decided it was not to late for me to achieve my love for nursing❤. That’s a great age, you still have a bunch of years to work and nursing even affords you the ability to work from home, desk jobs etc. I’m so happy for you for grasping your dreams.

I needed to see this, I'm a RBT and been doing direct support, after Uni I decided teaching wasn't for me and now I'm in PCT class working toward BSN..
The level of care has gone down. However we also have to look at the amount of money they are still trying to pay CNA's. They aren't being compensated for the amount of work they are doing. No one should have to work 50+ hours a week to make ends meet.
YEARS AGO......😅 I worked as a PCT, and that particular facility didn't have CNAs. I did blood draws, started IVs, I&O, EKGs, gave baths, set up traction (post-op unit), changed linen.....you name it, we did it. This was in DC. I guess it's different now 🤷🏽♀️

well dang they had y'all doing all the work except for charting!!
From my experience before becoming an RN I worked as a PCT. I was working as a CNA that that did blood draws, blood sugar checks, EKG's, transport, and a list of other things. Rounds had to be done every 2 hours by the nurses and PCT's. Currently Im working in a nursing home and i can definitely tell the difference when an agency hospital CNA comes to my job because they do so much more quality work. They tell me its light work compared to a hospital and I agree. The CNA's at my job barely change the residents once per shift 🤦🏾♀️ without being asked to do so. It's just a different level of professionalism in my opinion.
@yourfavnurseb9699

That professionalism part is SO true.
The hospital setting is different than he techs don't pull trash we have Evs 24/7 . CNA's are more for ADL's , Techs have a additional certification to do blood sugars , foleys, labs, bladder scans done hospitals the techs draw from the port it's definitely different in the settings and titles
You definitely ain’t lying about the CNA’s
I think agency cna's work harder then staff bc they want to be able to come back and work at that facility

I agree, people will look at EVERYTHING wrong with an agency staff before they call out their own staff for messing up or slacking

I’m glad u enjoy it, good luck!!
Always enjoyed the info and gems you've given out. And I promise I'm paying my SSI sis😂😂😂😂
Also if the requested med is not on the pt list must call the doc for permission!
In Colorado There really in not much difference now. I been a cna for 20 years with 7 years in LTC in the hospital I have done everything including medical assistant duties as long as the nurse delegates me including wound care lab draws ekgs bladder scans glucose checks. It really depends on the hospital but cnas do a lot more skills in the hospital then LTC. Although I hold a cna license in Colorado some hospitals call their cnas pcts as well so really I'm trying to find out the difference between the two. I even worked 5 years in the emergency department doing emt job duties. Which is why I'm going to school now to get my bsn because a cna of my position is grossly under paid. But cnas now days do the bare minimum and less I'm an old head learned from cnas like the one you mentioned and was doing the bed corners and everything but just because it's taken it's toll on my back I try to avoid lifting as much that's why I do the hospital scene but nursing has changed and rightfully so cuz we are under paid emensely.
That's ur state but here in MD ..in hospital as a tech I'm doing 12 lead ekg bladder scans finger sticks pin care to traction pt.an suction care an working between 3 nurse ...but Cna in nursing home do only ADL care an sit in wheel chair ...that's all oh feed residents....
@yourfavnurseb9699

I did have one tech do a bladder scan and they also do accu checks but no to the ekgs ( i do remember a tech on a cardio step down unit do one) and suction care, maybe they can do more I just need to ask what they can do. In nursing school I remember learning that they can even do foley catheter insertions depending on the facility. I think it's also my floor, in more acute setting I'm sure the techs do alot
@rudyl1770
6 ай бұрын
No offense but why are you doing suction care & pin care for traction isn’t that only for a nurse to do???? Because it sure is illegal in my state (nj) to suction a pt and do wound care if your unlicensed
I was a cna before becoming a tech. We do vitals ekg blood work on mother and baby and patient care.
Not straight from da concreke, hunny!? 😂
lol i want to see a picture of you with the hat
On the med surg unit I work on it is more work than the damn nursing home on some days. Even though I may have 5 or 6 patients, I'm doing baths, accu checks, and vitals and I am like where are the damn techs? Don't get me wrong I do like not having to push and pull heavy med carts up and down the halls. The hospital I'm at needs to have more day shift techs cuz us nurses have admissions/discharges sometimes back to back with hardly any advance warning.

I work as a PCT full time and CNA agency. And I do wayyy more as a tech 😭 I do labs, start IVs, crossed trained as monitor tech ( Telemetry floor) check sugars, I can start a code and do cpr. I’m on nights so it’s more chill. Now when I’m in the nursing home I’m just checking and changing. I feel like the older CNA are worse than the newer ones 😂

FACTS! New CNAs (STREETS)/MUPPETS🤡.
Its not the same thing bt A cna doesnt have to be a pct to work in a hospital. They will train you. Thats the one up they have on Pcts
U ain’t lying about them new CNAs 😂😂
Do you feel a difference taking those gummies?
Hello, Wondering how long it takes to complete a CNA course? A nursing facility in my town is advertising 14.50 per hour then 17.50 per hr after completion. I’m an older individual that is looking for a different career path. Though the pay is not great the location is very convenient.

Depends, I believe mine was 12 weeks. With experience you can work for an agency and get paid double or more depending on the demand in your area, some CNAs also do travel assignments
I have been in the field 24 years. Several positions. All these clinicians are delusional. I wish I could insert a picture how someone left a pt with a purewick. I came in at 11p. I will never again. I’m there at 7pm!
cnas were paid more=better workers
Good morning I'm currently Pct NJ Hospital do everything ekg draw blood glucose bath patient's and set up room after patient's after discharge and etc guess it depends on what state you work for
