CN 7 AM JOB SERVICES RAILCARE INC AND STELCO
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
November 14, 2023
Today we revisit the Hamilton’s interesting harbour industrial area to film CN’s train YHM013, usually just referred to as the Hamilton 7 am job.
This neighbourhood had for many generations been the city’s economic engine - home to many heavy industry giants . Many are now gone, regrettably. The likes of Proctor and Gamble, Firestone Tire, the primary smelting works of Stelco, the Stelco bar mill, the Dofasco hot strip mill where huge cherry red ingots were rolled into coils, Rheem where water heaters were fabricated, Canada Nut & Bolt Co forging operations making bolts etc, the foundry and forging of powerline equipment by Slater Steel on Dundurn St near Main St, the huge operations of Westinghouse Canada where steam turbines, giant transformers and electric motors were engineered and built and International Harvester where farm equipment was built. All now gone.
It was noisy, busy, gritty and dirty, and not without danger for those not paying attention. I should know since I worked there before the decline really got into gear. It was a fascinating area for any person that liked big powerful machinery.
It still has those features. And I love that aspect of the ‘Bayfront’.
Happily for railfans there is still local railroading to enjoy there. Just not as much as years ago.
Power for today’s 7 AM Job:
Timeline:
00:00 Quick Preview - What’s Inside
00:07 Intro & Maps
01:40 7 AM makes it way southward out of the CPKC spur and Railcar Inc
09:51 7 AM backs northward past Max Aicher into the Pier 18 area
14:02 7 AM pull southward out of the Pier 18 area, and onto the N & N W Spur
18:48 7 AM puts the hammer down with some nice clag once back on the N & N W Spur

@@FrogandFlangeVideo My pleasure, James, and thanks, my football club Man Utd just beat Man City in the FA Cup so I’m buzzin!
The view from the air and the explanation on the map were very easy to understand. Thank you. Have a wonderful weekend to you.

Hi Dave. Thank you my friend. Kindest regards to you all at SSRP. Thank you for the wishes on Memorial Day. My son works in SF, CA and he has reminded me recently that this solemn occasion was approaching. I wish you all a great Memorial Day as well. So many lives lost in service. A time for sober rememberance and reflection upon their sacrifices. James.
Great capture and coverage Cheers My man

Hi Bill, Thank you for your comment. Could not agree more ! Those old Alcos seem to have a very unique audio signature (IMHO). The subject that provided me the opportunity to record the track is featured in an earlier video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dI6h1q99gsrVgdI.html. I hope that you might enjoy it. James.

@@FrogandFlangeVideo hallo, James! Keine ursache! Dave.
Hello James, very interesting video about the history of this place and your workplace. The video showing that there is still rail traffic there is also interesting. Yes, my job in the mining industry had to be eliminated during the New Age, but I then retired, it was 45 years. The CN's shunting work is very nice, great photos from the air and from the ground. But it is still a very large industrial area. Thanks for showing and best regards. wolfgang

Greetings to you Wolfgang. Danke mein Freund. James.

Once the new Sucro-can sugar plant is built and starts operation it will add to the work for CN on that spur behind harvester.

@@jeffneeb3285 Hi Jeff. Thank you for jumping in on this thread. I was not aware of this development. And I am glad to learn that CN will have a new customer. I wonder if Sucro-Can have a dock-side footprint to allow for sugar to be brought in by ship, such as the case was for Redpath in Toronto. cheers. James.

From what I'm told by Sucro-can employees and read online yes the slip west of Sherman Ave will be dug out to handle the bigger ships to unload sugar. Will be similar to how Lantic sugar in Montreal looks.
