The slow burn towards Wardlow turning on MJF is one of the low key best stories AEW is telling currently. Very reminiscent of Batista’s slow burn to turning on Evolution. But with Shawn Spears playing the Flair peacekeeper role. I think J.R. nails it every time he mentions Wardlow being the future of the business.

I just hate the plot holes like the table spot like som1 else pointed out. should’ve been an instant dq unless in AEW they don’t have that but still they should address that. So people still know punk isnt pg and wardlow loses in a good way. Plus MJF was right Punk wasnt finished off yet cause he could still rollup, so Ward looks dumb.

This is a really fun story, Wardlow looks like an absolute beast and his eventual babyface turn is going to be electric. Everyone played their parts here perfectly - MJF continues to be the rotten scumbag that you wanna see get his comeuppance, Punk sold excellently for Wardlow and his Powerbomb Symphony, and Wardlow's reaching his breaking point while continuing to look like a badass

Punk was cleanly beaten by Wardlow until MJF allowed his personal hatred for CM Punk to inadvertently allow Punk to pick up a desperate fluke pin. Wardlow visually won clean although Punk just barely escaped with a lucky victory. If you think Wardlow looked bad in this match, especially when Punk couldn't even stand up after the match and Wardlow was standing strong and powerful after the match, then I think you need to re watch the match; and pay better attention to what happened in the match the second time around.

This match allows Punk to retain his undefeated streak in AEW so that when he does suffer his first official loss in AEW eventually it will be even more impactful. Wardlow getting the official first loss of his AEW career doesn't hurt his push at all. He was not embarrassed or humiliated at any way in his match. To the contrary, actually. He looked incredibly strong by manhandling a major superstar in CM Punk throughout this match. He only suffered a fluke loss as a result of MJF not allowing Wardlow to cleanly pin Punk when he had Punk completely knocked out. It's not like if someone loses they are buried and if someone wins they get pushed. It's not that simple. AEW is telling a story here. Wardlow is the star of this story. Punk merely got the fluke pin. Wardlow demolished Punk throughout the match. Punk sold well for Wardlow; and Wardlow looked like a total beast. Punk looks like the crafty veteran who barely escaped with a lucky win while Wardlow looks like a monster who could destroy Punk without MJF getting in the way of his success. This is solid storytelling from AEW. No one got buried in this match. Wardlow didn't need the official victory- he needed to shine bright in this match regardless of the outcome of the match- and he did that in a big, impressive way.

Wardlow's 5 Powerbomb Combo is called "The Symphony" I dig it. I love it when wrestlers take common moves or finishers and just add something to it and make it their own. Kinda like the buckshot lariat. It's just a lariat but combine it with a springboard slingshot and it becomes a whole new move and finisher.

It's really amazing how well they've interwoven the Punk/MJF feud with the Wardlow/MJF split. Great stuff from everyone involved.

The finish was BS. Punk ate so many powerbombs and he still got a win. They could have gone with a DQ or a no contest or a Knockout, even a count out.

It's been three years in the making

I was there live. We were ready for a Wardlow turn. For those that complain about a small package pin, do your research. This was vintage Bret vs Diesel. Can't wait until the Wardog turns. I've been a fan since day one.

Opposite of what I thought would happen, worked perfectly, thanks for the match!

There's just SO many more matches to come and man... every fight is a classic. Just a classic! They really put over Wardlow huge in this one.

Yeah, I love how they showed that Wardlow had Punk beat until MJF interfered to serve his own personal bloodlust against CM Punk. The fact that Punk got a desperate hail Mary pin on Wardlow and couldn't even stand up afterwards allows Wardlow to look very strong even in defeat. This is some really strong storytelling from AEW. I'm definitely excited to see where this story goes from here.

@@daytonafuntim Throwing your opponent into a barricade and the announcer's table is legal, but getting another table from under the ring is a DQ. Striking objects like chairs and the steps are illegal no matter what in a singles match.

That's how you make both guys win.

A rare moment of Tony being into a match and delivering good lines! A testament to how good MJF, Wardlow and Punk work. I love how Punk sold Wardlow to the end, while still plausibly doing a thing that could win the match.

Damn, MJF; just let Wardlow pin him AND then do the extra powerbombs after the match is over.

People really complaining about this. He looked like a beast and clearly had the win. It’s wrestling. It’s about the story.

only problem i have is when you push people like mjf is pushing people, you usually wind up in the hospital, and the most we can count on here is a finisher from ward's turn and maybe a match loss to each of them. not enough payoff in the end
