That's why Punk is so over. There is reality in his promos. Even if it's a scripted angle, he brings this realness and honesty to it. That's what made wrestling special back during the MNW: the line between work and shoot is blurred and it's done in such a cool way that you want to keep watching to find out what's real and what isn't.

Watching this now half a year later now....this is truly a timeless moment that I can't get enough of. I'm not even a big CM Punk fan but I feel like this represents the return of PRO WRESTLING and that is what brought me to tears. I grew up on this and after over 15 years of Disneyland sports entertainment, it was such a relief to finally get some hope that the kind of wrestling I loved was finally coming back. I knew this would change the business. Just look at Cody Rhodes jumping ship and being given a huge spot at Wrestlemania. And he is actually being allowed somewhat to call it professional wrestling. Thank you Tony Kahn and thank you CM Punk for lighting the fire! With the 🌎 in chaos, from the pandemic to now a potential WW3 erupting across the globe, at least us pro wrestling fans can have some kind of escape, even if it's only for a few hours a week.

This era of AEW was so special

I get emotional because three days prior my dog died, I went to the event with a feeling of happiness and sadness but when we got to the arena the vibe was right and when Punk entered I felt this overwhelming joy! It really helped me realize that things were going to be okay, and to top it off I later saw that he was wearing the Larry hoodie and the tears of joy came out again! It all just felt right and I'm so happy I got to be there!

I was at the show literally as soon as he took off his sweatshirt and he was done with this promo I am not kidding you about 30% of the venue got up and just left and made a dash for the merch table had to wait near an hour-and-a-half to get a shirt

you can tell he realizes how much these fans love and missed him, this is the most emotion I’ve seen him show.

Sting: "Speak softly and carry a BIG BLACK BAT!" I think that's how the saying goes. And it's good to see CM Punk back, he got a lot of criticism for trying other avenues of combat but rose above that and returned to the squared circle.

I left a work environment that wasn’t good for me. I knew if I stayed at that job I was going to get let go because I stopped truly caring. I did the bare minimum to stay a float at that job. Starting somewhere else where my work wasn’t being taken for granted and having more freedom and say made me feel like Punk getting to AEW. It was around the same time as well when Punk came home. I was at this Rampage in my hometown with the hero and I still get emotional watching that replay of Punk coming back to pro wrestling. Thank you Punk for making me lose my doubts about starting all over again if you’re unhappy!

Came back to rewatch this, making a bold prediction now, when Punk returns from his injury he’s going to get the biggest pop of the year.

Without AEW we likely wouldn't have seen CM Punk in wrestling again. I'm so happy that AEW is around! What an incredible moment for pro wrestling that we will be talking about for decades.
