The biggest reason why AEW failed to take advantage of the animosity is because of a lack of professionalism and vision when it comes to The Bucks, Hangman and even TK. Seth may truly hate Punk, but he's not stupid when it comes to building a compelling storyline. AEW had a golden opportunity and now they get to watch what could have been, by watching it on WWE, all because of a lack of professionalism from talent and the person who should be a leader.

Punk's media scrum was amazing to watch, even if it was real. If it was Vince, he would be thinking "that's money". He would find a way to build the real life animosity into a program and utilize it. The AEW culture is weird, they freaked out about a couple of backstage fights and a couple of rants. That happened all the time in wrestling, and a good booker knows how to use that to build programs. Tony literally had a great program fall into his lap and he chose to fire Punk for those dumb Bucks and Jack. If Vince did that, we would have no Austin, no HBK, no Bret, no Hogan.

Bully is overthinking it…WWE designs their promos a certain way to tell a story. When Punk had his first promo, he had to cut it short and sweet, not give too much but leave you wanting to know more. When he went on smackdown he gave a continuation, named the bullets, and basically planned his next feuds. This past Monday, he closed a few chapters from the city he quit in to the city he chose his brand in and apologized to the fans. Seth who has been begging Punk for a match since 2019 came out to tie in a different element to their history. It’s not that Punk couldn’t reply to him, it’s just designed for him not to right now, we’re in December why should we get EVERYTHING right now ??

I think there’s a few thing going on with the AEW backstage problems. When Tony started AEW, he knew he needed the help of people who had more experience in the business than himself. He offered Jim Cornette a job. He made the Elite jobs as EVP’s to help him run things. The problem with that is the Elite had experience, but it was in the indies and running PWG. AEW is not the indies and it’s not PWG. There are 10’s if not hundred of millions dollars being spent to run that place. The success of AEW is highly contingent on ratings , ticket, and merch sales. The only butts they’ve had to put in seats are hardcore fans who like that type of product and style of wrestling. They never had to run weekly nationally aired television. They never had to be profitable under these circumstances. It’s a totally different animal. Everyone TK has put into power with experience running the kind of company they need to run to be successful have been disregarded by the talent because they are enabled to do so. This is what happened to JR. They think they have it all figured out and because it worked on a small scale, it’s gonna work on TV and they won’t hear otherwise. And instead of putting his foot down, TK folds. This how you end up losing CM Punk, but keep Jungle Boy who is not anywhere close to being the same level of talent or star. They just do the same things they did when no one was watching, and it’s not bringing in the audience they need to be successful. The hardcores will always be there, but when you’re spending the kind of money he’s spending you need more than that. I wish them the best but I’m doubtful things will change.

Depends on how long Punk sticks around, if he's only going to do a 3 year contract like Edge did, he might stay face most of the time. Also depends on if he fights Roman and Paul goes back to Punk, then Punk would be a heel again. But honestly, I think it's best for Punk to stay as a tweener right now. He's a nice guy but he wont pull any punches when it's time to get down to business. When he's on the mic you will get the Punk who blasts you and outclasses you. When they're in the ring, it's not like Punk is going to cheat like a heel would.

Excellent point & analogy in relation to Khan and Steinbrenner. Jerry Jones is currently in a "come to jesus" moment himself with the Cowboys on that same issue. JJ hasn't ran the day to day since at least 2013. Why? because he figured out he can't do it by himself. He went out and got his son & a 'quasi' GM in Will McClay and the Cowboys have had decent success ever since. When Khan does the same, AEW should rebound too.

good call on the eye contact, i also don’t like when they do promos and they walk around talk with their hands towards the crowd. when they do it like that it’s more like they’re doing a performance as opposed to two men having a convo.

Unlike AEW, the WWE historically is better at turning real-life animosity into storylines while the wrestlers involved are professional enough to control their personal real-life animosity in control for them to create a great feud on TV where fans would watch in delight. Just one of the many examples is Matt Hary and Edge with Lita. WWE like Bully Ray said here is night and day on how professionalism is handled to maximize it to create real-life drama in wrestling.

This is all great but honestly. Punk would kill Seth outside the ring due to his mma experience training with kickboxers, jiujitsu, and wrestlers… that’s a brutal training regiment and you can tell by Punk’s calm demeanor. That comes from martial arts and discipline So don’t be surprised if Punk outworks Seth in the match.

You know when you're so angry, in a fight or any argument, and you genuinely don't like that person? you get so nervous that you threaten to cry. Not a cry of pain or anything like that but of such hatred in the situation. Seth had that look on his face, he looked like he was about to cry. It was scary and real... I'm looking forward to seeing how they will build this whole story between these two.

I was a little underwhelmed with Punk's response, but I tweeted this out right after the segment cause I really think Punk's promo should've went like this. "Look here you little sequin suit bitch... I know you hate me, not that hard to tell. But don't lie to these people, it's not cause I wasn't here. I remember there being 3 members of The Shield....you know, the thing that EYE made possible. Do you hate that other guy? No, you hate me for a simple reason. After being the good little soldier all these years, all they do is sing your SONG. After being away all these years, even when I wasn't here, they chant MY NAME. Get ready, the people are gonna stop singin very soon and here's why...I announce I'm participating in the Royal Rumble. Then I'm gonna make you hate me even more, cause I'm gonna send you back home to your MAN with your belt taken. Because SHE knows like they know, I'm CM Punk and I'm... *crowd says The Best In The World*

Whatever the real life heat may be, be it Punk and Rollins and/or Jax and Lynch, the WWE and all parties involved have turned it into a catalyst for doing business (so far!) and just in time for their biggest PPV's. Add to that, as I've heard someone say as of late, its a marathon not a sprint when it comes to laying out the storyline. Some nights certain talent will get the best of each other through promos, run-in's, etc.. Some nights it'll be the other. They don't want to show their hand all at once. The WWE hasnt been this stacked since the early 2000's with Rock, Austin, HHH, Angle, The Dudley's, Edge and Christian and The Hardy's right before Austin's heel turn IMO. This is the opportunity AEW had and lost and is going to be a hard lesson for them to learn.

I liked the Nia/Becky Promo, and I found myself agreeing with everything NIA said. Bully isn't wrong. Seth did win the Promo, but because Punk didn't say much in rebuttal. Wait until they are officially feuding for the Title; Seth won't stand a chance, unless it's written for them to be equal. Especially if they're given the freedom to say what they want, without going over the edge. I get what Bully says about the blinking, but that's nothing to put too much stock into for real. Unless that's part of your Criteria for what moves you.
