CM Punk | AEW Unrestricted Podcast

Ойын-сауық

CM Punk details his AEW debut and return to wrestling after a 7-year absence in what was designed to be the worst-kept secret in the biz! He speaks to the “pop” at the United Center the night of his debut, his AEW entrance music of choice (Living Colour’s “Cult Of Personality”), the meeting with Tony Khan that sealed the deal, and the role that AEW’s Brodie Lee tribute show played in his decision to sign. He shares thoughts on his first match back (against Darby Allin), why he enjoys commentary so much, who he hopes to tag with at AEW, what he loves about working with Will Hobbs, and how his MMA training helped his in-ring performance. Plus, stories about his wrestling influences (Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Eddie Guerrero), his love of comics, his favorite horror movies, and his most memorable acting moment. CM Punk is 42 and in great shape. Has his passion back, and clearly has a great mind for the business. It's so exciting to me that if Punk wants, and if he keeps feeling good and enjoying what he's doing, we could have some YEARS of new CM Punk storylines and matches. Man, I'm just so damn happy for him. I know it's been said, but Danielson being 40 and Punk being 42... it's the same age as Hogan and Savage when they went to WCW. Pretty wild.

Cena vs. Rock: Once in a lifetime brought a lot of people to Sunlife Stadium at WM28. The reason I travelled to Florida from North Carolina was CM Punk vs. Jericho. Now look where they both are all these years later. I know Tony has a heart for the business, but now he's starting to bring in minds who have been tenured. With people who know what works and what may not, Tony is building something absolutely priceless. I grew up right before the attitude era boomed, through the end of the Monday night wars, to WWE being the only thing in years, through BTE and All In adding a spark to light AEW into existence. It's all people as passionate as Tony about the business could ask for.

I'm so glad CM Punk returned and so many people are loving Professional Wrestling again. I really like how they brought back Punk and have used him. I think he's a great commentating personality and he's still got it in the ring. I really enjoy everything AEW is doing from top to bottom except one thing. I really wish they would stop forcing Derby Botchin down our throats. I get why there is a subculture that likes him, but I don't think he is anywhere near as big as the push that he's getting and can think of 10 wrestlers his age or younger I would rather watch or see get pushed. Not trying to hate... just back off. :spoiler: he was in 4 different segments this past dynamite. Anyway, to continue with the positive attitude of Punk. I love you all and I hope AEW, CM Punk and everyone involved continues to succeed, including Darby.

Ya'know? I stopped watching wrestling in 2019. I had heard about AEW, but never really got interested... until the CM Punk return rumour came into me. I've been a CM Punk and wrestling fan since I was 9 and now at 22 I felt like AEW was expecting me by bringing back my favorite wrestler after 7 years and realizing the BEST PPV in the last decade with Danielson, Cole, Darby, Sting, Omega, Cage and all of the crew. What a time to be a wrestling fan.

Finally checking this video out and my eyebrows definitely raised when he described almost doing something with Brian Danielson that sounded a lot like what Blackpool Combat Club ended up being. Definitely would have been a different vibe if they had been the founding members instead

Sure that raised my eyebrows as well thinking the same thing about the black head and BCC... But my eyebrows raised more at him talking about Kenny Omega being the benchmark in the company that he wanted to square off with. There is the only the slightest feeling in my gut that this could be the best work of all time. But I had that feeling with Cody before he officially signed with WWE. And it just doesn’t add up to anything but a sad shoot. But if they actually are writing the most elaborate work and it leads to Punk vs Omega and FTR vs The Bucks at next years All Out. And a months long trio feud with all of them for trios titles. I’m game. But mostly I don’t think it was a work in anyway and I legit went from a longtime Punk fan happy he was back to an instant never wanting him to step foot in AEW or again and caring less if he ever wrestled again. The Elite and BTE and AEW have got me through the hardest five years of my life losing my father and battling leukemia last four years. Literally diagnosed and relieving my first round of chemo the week AEW was announced on BTE. I watched Wrestlekingdom in a hospital bed and the Jacksonville press conference a few days later in the hospital bed receiving chemo. It has gave me something to look forward to and moments of release and entertainment each week that allowed me to laugh and escape my reality for 20-30 minutes each week. They are responsible for AEW and it would not have hit the ground running or been the success it turned into and a company that would entice Punk to come back if not for The Elite. If not for them selling out All In in three minutes proving that with them on the card another promotion that could sell out ten thousand seat arenas and get a major TV deal was a viable option that could make money. And Punk embarrassed the company. Went into business for his own egotistical narcissistic delusional revisionist benefit. Acted above them and the company like he was responsible for AEW existing and he was trying to run the company. He acted like a hypocrite guilty by magnitudes greater then what Hangman did and whining about the very things he was doing to the tenth degree and turning it to eleven. I waited with everyone 8 long months that felt longer than Punks seven years to see Omega back on my screen and finally got him back was looking forward to them finally winning and introducing the trios titles and Punk toes off and ruins everything. Very similarly with MKF being gone after his promo for months it was a wonder if it was like Cody and was not going to turn out to be a work and he was going to actually be fired and leave the company. But turned out to be an elaborate work waiting for Punk to return from injury. And then Punk destroyed that storyline and those plans by going off and getting injured again. So it’s hard to believe this is any way a work and he’s not just a self centered asshole that only cares about money and being at the top and drinks his own kook aid thinking he’s bigger then every company he’s in and the only one that can draw ratings and put the company on his back. But when he came back I did want to see Punk vs Omega and if this was the way to set it all up and set up The Bucks vs FTR for next year. And give us the biggest payoff and long term storylines for the trios titles... And an elaborate way possibly to allow Omega and Punk possible to have more time to heal and get back to being at a hundred percent. I could be okay with this as long as Punk loses to Omega. But if this actually starts the drama of splitting the lockeroom and Tye Elite leaving and AEW falling apart I will never want to hear CM Punk again or see his face anywhere. Because The Elite and BTE and AEW have meant so much to me. They were there for me giving me the wrestling and entertainment I needed for years while Punk was sitting at home with his WWE ball wasting what would have been the best prime years of his career. Not having a BTE the last few weeks is also killing me. Literally have not had a single week since it started go by that I did not look forward to it and get to laugh. Tony is destroying his company with every moment that passes that he doesn’t fire Punk and bring back The Elite and BTE and let it known he stands behind the people that he built the company with and that he hired as EVPs.... They put The Elite in All Elite Wrestling... they were and are riding ride that invited everyone onto their ship to succeed with them.

@@jamessorge3197 Tony Khan firing CM Punk and letting go of Cody Rhodes was one of the biggest mistake in his life. After he returned back to WWE it well documented that he was never the problem it was always the Old Bucks, Colt Cabbage, Jackass Perry and Hangnail Page who were narcissistic maniacs. They successfully mended CM Punk relationship with WWE. Kenny Omega as well addresses that he has no heat and mended his relationship with Punk and their is Mutual respect and didn't like the way AEW handled. After the backstage footage was released CM Punk was telling the truth but everyone sided with the Elite and Jack Perry. Wrestling community as whole now is aware who are the real cancers in AEW.

It's 2 different things Brock Lesnar are powerful and yes no one can beat him ... it's kind of MACHINE JUST amazing ... inside a wrestling match sometimes wrestlers make moves to making the show and fans crowd look like tricky ... and BROCK HAVE THE POWER AND SKILLS TO DESTROY EVERYONE ... inside promo to push rivalery the game play are important and i think about the feud with CM PUNK AGAINST KEVIN NASH, HHH , JOHN LAURINAITIS AND MCMAHON... when Paul Heyman take Ryback to destroy Cm Punk and at the end CM PUNK win WITH STAMINA AND HARD WORK LIKE BRET HART ... with courage ... Edge and Christian turn the ERA more intense in late 90 WITH TABLE. LADDER AND CHAIR .. CHRIS JERICHO = LEGENDARY LIONHEART
