Dude, great video and help. As a person who has worked in pharmaceuticals particularly in transdermal technology (i.e. medicated patches) and knowing how quickly our skin can absorb things, for safety's sake I would highly recommend wearing some type of nitrite glove to protect your skin while being in contact with any type of fluid like that. Especially while you were cleaning out the reservoir. As always, a few moments of safety could prevent a lifetime of regret. Thanks!
Those 8 dislikes don't know what they want. This is a perfect tutorial. Very informative and its from a veteran. Doesn't get any better than this. Thank you very much, this helped a lot
This was a TREMENDOUS help! Cross referenced with AutoZone videos for a little clarification, but basically had this video on standby anytime I had a question about the next step. Biggest problem - as always, - having the right tools. Slave and Master cylinder replaced for less than $100 and only about 2 hours of my labor. Thanks.
Thank you so much! I looked everywhere for a one man bleed technique and this one was the winner.
Thanks man, found this very helpful. Did this on my 2000 Eclipse today and watching your video gave me a couple of pointers and gave me a higher level of confidence.
Thank you for your video! I had initially thought that my clutch itself was the issue and I was dreading having to fork out close to a grand to have that replaced. After doing some research on the internet I was convinced that it was the clutch slave cylinder. Following your instructions, I bought the part from my local Auto Zone for 20 bucks and replaced it myself in a couple of hours. The only difficulty I had was the final bolt holding the hose to the old cylinder was rusty and impossible to remove. So I took it to my local Merlin and they separated them for me. After that, it was a breeze to install. I love your bleed method because it does not require 2 people.
i love all your videos! I wish there were someone like you for all the things Id like to learn
Excelente. Logré realizar el cambio perfectamente. Muchas gracias. Saludos desde Costa Rica.
Great tutorial, thanks for posting it. Just bled my clutch after watching this with ease.
Hey Gary thanks for the tips, I have the new slave cylinder installed and she is performing well for me. I didnt have a grinder but I really wanted the job done; but I was able to pry that banjo bolt loose and brake it off with a hammer. Thanks!
This video is incredibly helpful. Thank you very much for making it.
Thank you very much for this informative video. We need more mechanics to pass down there knowledge. Its nice to be able to do things such as bleeding a clutch without paying out the rear at the stealership or going to school lol. Keep up the great work.
thanks Gary you have been a great help thanks again
@perfectclutch i have a 95 integra 5 spd, and im changing the master and the slave cylinder but the reservoir still have fluid in it. Would you open the slave bleeder and keep pumping the pedal to drain fluid or just take the parts out even when its still full of fluid?
This guy is good! Very informational clip
Very good directions works fabulous thank you!
Thanks for your support video.... Im changed my cluth slave cylinder on my 2000 accord lx today. First i have my friend step on the cluth about 20 time then hold it down , i release the valve on an old cluth slave to get the old dot 3 out . i removed air filter pipe, water pump hose. i removed two screw on old slave cylinder and pick up from the bottom. i removed the pin with a small size nail and pull the line out . NEXT...I filled up the new slave cylinder with dot 3 oil then pushes...
great video! saved me big time!
Do what this guy said it works 100% I just did it 2 hours a go tank u gery
@perfectionclutch ok so i was looking around some more and it looks like it could be the hard line running from the master. the m/c runs along the firewall then towards the radiator its got some ways to travel so im guessing its just the hardlines because theres oil coming from it when i compress the clutch in
its unclear where the fluid is exiting, is it going into container?
I have a 02 hyundai elantra do I have to pull both axels out to put a new clutch in
92 s10 with the 4.3. possibly have a bad slave cylinder. do I have to pull the trans to replace that? a friend said he believes I do. Haven't gotten under the car to try anything yet. he also suggests the slave cylinder is the cause for my pedal being very very hard to push.
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I have just replaced the slave cylinder of a 2003 tiburon. One question however, it seems like that the connector that is attached to the clutch and reaches into the slave cylinder is a bit too long. Clutch slips a bit as there seems to be no space in the cylinder left when clutch is in release. It also was hard to screw the cylinder back in. I am thinking of sanding off 3-5 mm of the connector. Is that something one could do? thanks and best
Nice technique, thanks
I forgot when you snap the bearing in is it really noticeable when it happens? thanks again. Chris
I have a 95 toyota tacoma 4x.. the truck wanted to start going with the clutch engaged, in gear at a stop... so we replaced the clutch and flywheel. After assemling everything and bleeding, when you push the clutch pedal it does nothing.. it somewhat moves the piston on the slave but does not engage the arm and the arm does not return to its normal position.. any advice would be appreciated greatly!! Thanks!
That was so helpful! I just replaced the clutch pack on my Kia and I had questions about bleeding the master/slave cyls. This was very nicely done and it answered all of my questions! Thank you!

hi, ive a elntra and the clutch is slipping in second gear and third when I add power . done 170km. is it hydraulic or the clutch runs well in 5th ?
gary, i just got a 2000 hyundai elantra gsl 5spd it has 245k miles on the body and roughly 90k on the motor but i believe its the original trans, when i start rolling and go into second gear it grinds really bad BUT only if im higher than 3k rpms and downshifting from 4th to 3rd it grinds a little bit i dont think it could be the clutch itself, or could it? i was thinking it might be the syncros if those transmissions have them. what should i do? Zach.
Thank you . Great video you're a life saver
well just got off the phone with tony. what big help he was in helping me fix my car over phone on my clutch problem.thanks from chris in florida
Very good vid. Working on replacing a slave for '95 GMC truck. This made a lot of sense although totally different vehicle.

i have a hino 4ton truck the clutch is leaking break fluid its also was stuck in first gear i took of the drive shaft so its free up i just wanna know how to remove the entire clutch line? i ordered a new master cylinder but the aliment setup was different so i cleaned the old master cylinder and exchanged the internal settings.any other other advise would be great :).
@perfectionclutch thanks for the info, also is a master cylinder the same as a clutch master? like when some one says i need a master cylinder are they referring to a clutch master? or are they both different?
Nice videos and very well presented. Any ideas why I only get 3/4 travel at the clutch pedal. New master & slave. New clutch kit. Bearing snapped on ok but the arm is 1/2 inch away from its stop. So there seems not enough throw to disengage the cltuch. 97 1.8 Lantra.
hi i recently changed my clutch on a 93 honda prelude. ever since the clutch pedal gets hard and the car will feel like if the clutch is not disengageing. so what i do is a will bleed the system and it will work for like some days and then it will do the same thing? so i changed the slave cylinder and its still doin the same. do you think it can be the clutch master cylinder?
So could this still be my issue if I was driving pedal went to the floor could not shift and the car halted roughly and I was slowing down
What can I use to clean the line? I bought a pick up that had never had it's fluids changed but I don't know what to clean it with
2012 hyudia accent installed new clutch disk presser plate and thur out bearing and had to remove the line at the slave and now its not even gravity feed and no presser at pedal? bad master or slave ?
@perfectionclutch ok does these steps apply to a 91 ford escort gt 1.8 liter
Great video
Hi I have a fiat stilo 1.6cc 16v I fit a new clutch kit a 6 weeks a go and the clutch start sleeping same times (interment can you please let me know what cause my problem tank you very mutch please reply soon us possible regards:Berenguer
would a hydraulic clutch work for a standard clutch
I have a 2002 elantra and we have just put in a cluch, but when getting ready to bleed the clutch, you can only push the clutch pedal in about half way. when you open the bleeder valve it goes clear to the floor but as soon as you try and push it down again it feels as if the pedal is stuck half way. we replaced the master cylinder but not the slave cylinder . should we replace the slave cylinder or something else ? Thanks
Question... what size is the crowfoot for the fitting on the master cylinder?
Very good technician.
I did this and fluid starting coming out of the push rod ??
I have a question, I have a nissan pathfinder 5 speed 3.3 4x4, when the truck is cold it's very hard to shift into first gear, when the truck is warm is not that hard to shift into first gear but is not that soft either, shifting from first to second is kind of hard always, I try to take off from second gear just to avoid that, a mechanic told me over the phone that the clutch might not be the problem, do you know what could be the problem? is there any way it can be adjusted? thanks in advanc
96 ford escort, the clutch runs off the brake master cylinder..do i bleed the clutch the same way since there is not a seperate master cylinder?....
I drive a mazda 626. Earlier today, I was driving and I messed up and hit a curb pretty hard. On my way home I noticed I had to push my shifter pretty hard to switch gears, no grinding, though. After I got home, I let my car sit a little while I look that problem up. Well, I just went to start it, and I have absolutely no resistance in my clutch pedal. The clutch disengages, meaning, I can switch to reverse, but I have to force it really hard, again, no grinding. Is it just the cylinders?
I have tried a couple of different socket wrenches and no luck. But yes my replacement did come with a new bolt for that particular spot. I have been told to try to heat the bolt; carefully of course. Any thoughts on that process? Thanks Gary
now i have a more understanding how a clutch work.... do a honda civic have this type of clutch or the wire clutch???
@perfectionclutch is it this simple on an 86 fiero?
i just replaced the slave cylinder on my 1997 mitsubishi eclipse gst,now the problem im having is that it wont go into gear, i get the feeling that my clutch is not disengaging, what should i do?
Is it best to replace both when the cluth slave cylinder is bad
my MBC didn't come with a new gasket is it okto re-use or get a new one
Does this work if no fluid in line? I replaced the hose also
Question, my friction plate wont disengage when pedal is fully depressed. Flywheel, friction plate, pressure plate and concentric slave + bearring are replaced 2 months ago and have done 2500miles with them without any problem. The problem started occuring when a friend of mine launched my car from a standstill and wanted to shift to 2nd. I've checked the shifting mechanism, bleeded but none worked. In first gear with clutch pedal depressed to the floor and accelerating the car creeps forward when close to redline. The slave cylinder moves out instantly when I'm depressing the clutch pedal, also it doesn't slip What i did notice is the level in the clutch resevoir is decreasing when the pedal is depressed and raises again when releasing (no leaks under the car or at the pedal)
ok i had pressure in my pedal but my car would not move wat do u think it is
thanx yall help me bleed my maxima saved me money
sir how can i replace an d install a new uuper clutch master in my B2200 MAZDA PICK UP,THX
I'm installing a Clutch Master Cylinder tomorrow, and I was wanting to know if you bench bled the Clutch Master Cylinder before you installed it? I am going to try bleeding the system the way you showed in this video.
i have an 1987 f150 and i have replaced both the master and slave cylinder and none of the fluid in my master cylinder will bleed when i push the clutch in and out i have done it with the bleed screw open and closed on the slave and it still has no hardness on the pedal have any idea? plz help
I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX. Yes I have a friend who is very mechanically inclined. He can help, his time is just limited. Is it possible that my fluid has just dropped too low. I have never changed it or even checked it for that matter. I am hoping that I could just bleed and refill. However I do show the signs of a failing Master/and/or/Slave cylinder. Peddle recently getting stuck in first, or not wanting to go in at all.
I can not find video with the clutch master cylinder like the one in my 06 2wd tacoma. Mine shares the brake master cylinder for its reservoir
Replacing the slave on a 96 accent, basically the same setup. I've fed the fluid through to the slave, but I absolutely cannot compress the slave pushrod at all once I close the bleed screw. I don't think the rod on the master is too far out because it is short enough that it is pulling the pedal forward a little. Any ideas?
great!
Hi, please assist with some advice regarding Hyundai Getz 1.4 2007, couldn't change gears at the stop street, clutch pedal was loose, found some liquid at the bottom aswell. Managed to take it out of gear with assistance, and tow rope. Clutch is still loose, but gears are able to change, vehicle wont start. Thank you
I have a 93 Honda civic ex hydro clutch I replaced both pumps an still not work could it be my pressure plate ? Or that am not bleeding it right
how Do you Blid a cluch in a vw golf 99
I have a 1987 3.0 4x4 nissan pathfinder i changed the slave cylinders an my pedle is not building pressure ive tryed bleeding it an it want do anything but just go to the floor
Could the bearing not locked in keep the clutch from going clear to the floor? im not sure that the bearing is locked in, am going to try your advice thanks so much your videos are very nice and understandable thanks. Chris
Check adjusting nut on where it links to your clutch pedal. If you bled all the air out and the pedal goes to the floor without engaging the clutch you need to bring the nut out to give more play. There should be a nut to lock it place also.
i replaced my clutch with a kit now i cant get it to go in gear .my clutch pedal is real spongy could it be the master cylinder the the slave isnt very old
Gary is it difficult to change a slave cylinder in a 1993 Honda del sol? The cylinder Is on the passenger side I believe, and it appears to be wet with some fluid(brake fluid im assuming). I checked the reservoir and there wasn't a drop in it! I sprayed some wd 40 on the nuts that will have to be removed to gain access, let that sit overnight and hopefully ill be able to do this myself. 27 year old female/country girl :)
had the same exact problem with my 86 fiero, the bearing wasnt locked in. and had to make a longer push rod the comes out of the master cylinder to the clutch arm on the trans, what a head ache
I have a 98 Nissan frontier 5 spd. All gears work fine but the reverse will not go in at all..i have to push it backwards for the gear to go into place..
In the realm of mechanics. How hard would this be to do yourself? I am having a problem that relates to either the master or slave cylinders. I have been doing research, but am very short on availability to do it myself. What is a reasonable price to pay someone to do this?
I have a 86 nissan hard body truck 72s with a z24 motor clutch went out ,replaced slave cylinder cant bleed it right any ways it wont shift running but goes through gears not running and can only start in reverse drives fine in reverse any help would be appreciated
Nice, I think I know where I was going wrong this evening. I kept thinking the bleeder down at the lowest point is kicking my butt. I never, ever thought about using the slave to bleed. I have been doing it backwards. I was bleeding the way you do brakes.
We are trying to fix the problem on my 2003 Toyota 4x4
i have a 92 honda accord. brand new slave and master. i bleed and everytime i get nothing but bubbles no matter wat. i cant get any pressure back into my pedal wat so ever any help please :/
Quick question if anyone is out there. I have the same year and make as in the video here. When I attempt to compress the slave it is like hitting a brick wall. I have shortened the rod so it to the master and it still won't budge. When I open the bleeder, it will gravity feed from the master, and it will then compress. When everything is hooked back up, the clutch works fine. What might be causing this?
What kind of fluid needs to be added to this deposit?
@vinceperez158 Has the Fluid, not a wire system. I am about to do mine right now.
I can not for the life of me remove the bolt that holds the copper compression gaskets and line to the slave cylinder. That sucker wont budge. I have given myself plenty of room also. Any advise?
Right, it's grade school physics I guess. I'm bleeding a Ford Maverick 2.4 1996 after changing both cylinders. I'm on my own so your back-pressure technique with the slave is proving useful - but I still have a stack of air and pumping the slave only released some of it. So back to the old school rock-on-the-pedal/slacken the bleed nipple method!! But starting to get some pressure now
@perfectionclutch o ok its a 5.8L it is a 5 speed transmission with hydraulic clutch
how do you blid a slave cylinder
Hey Steve gotta 07 Hyundai Tiburon se 2.7 6speed manual and replace everything you just did same set up and my clutch peddle gets hard as a rock and stays up! I tried too hand vacuum pump it with the loaner tools at autozone and still no luck the actuator will not move on the end of the slave cylinder so idk what I’m too do had a 25 yr certified mechanic look at it and he said it’s deff not the clutch because the slave cylinder isn’t moving at all when I bleed it the peddle slowly starts too build pressure then it just gets hard and won’t go into gear please help!!! I’ve been cursed with trying too fix it and just can’t seem too see what I’m missing here the throw out bearingbis working when I use my hand to move it back and fourth so I don’t think it’s the throw out lever for it so please If anyone can give me some advice I’d appreciate it so much got two adopted children that I gotta be able to get back and fourth with and just need some help thanks man I love your tutorials
I tried using a vacuum bleeder but it doesn't seem to work. I'm going to try pumping the slave
I have a 2008 Nissan altima manual transmission and I dont see a clutch reservoir. I am unable to change gears on my car. When I push the clutch pedal it goes all the way to the floor and never comes back. So I am assuming my clutch master and slave cylinders are bad. Is the clutch master cylinder attached to the brake reservoir? Please let me know.

well, it happened twice. I think both times I pressed to hard and the push rod wasn't centered cause fluid shot out and filled the boot, I pulled it back and it was full. I took it back, got another new one and it did it again. although I have to say it gets the air out fast! way faster than the traditional bleed screw peddle press method. especially since I don't have a helper. I think I it's good to go, I just have to screw the slave back on and see. maybe I'll have time tomorrow after work. hopefully the piston is sealed or straightened back out and everything works. this turned into a 2 week (no car) event! I've learned a lot though, if I ever have to do it again I'll be ready. I pray tomm I get it cause it's too cold for the motorcycle
it's working for a tc scion 2007
Oil Dot3 or Dot4?
generally how much would a mechanic charge for this job?
please explain A to Z what is this? what r u doing?
Continue...the line with new sealed down the hole and lock it up with a new pin . i put a new slave down to the same position then put two screw back in and tight it . i open the cover on dot 3 reservoir and let my friend pump on the cluth for quite some time untill it feel firm enough then hold it down . i released the valve on new cluth slave to let the fluid come oout then close it...i do this two -three time until the cluth pedal if firm and slave cylinder is move up when the cluth is
what are the signs that show the car need a new master cylinder?
