The fact that you did this with your Dad made the video a success on its own, treasure those memories. Also, looks like the $ 1,100 dollar Subaru was money well spent. I was surprised. Thank you.

I would take the Subaru over a jeep any day. I could take that entire engine apart with a 10,12,14,17,19mm and a 10mm allen if needed. The jeep on the other hand I just don't trust the engineering or dependability. 😐 Japanese engineering always beats our American engineering unfortunately.

I have a YJ 4.0 on 33s and a Tacoma TRD on 31s. Ive pushed both of them and broke a lot of things. I just got a 2023 Crosstrek Sport (my first Subaru) and Ive been messing with various terrain, snow, mud, round rock with soft soil and Im going to go ahead and admit that if approach angle and ground clearance werent an issue, the Subaru would out perform both. That and I have little no no fear of hitting rocks and trees in my Jeep. By the way I was really hoping you would take a 45 degree line at that last rock ledge and pop over it. Fun video, thanks. The Subaru AWD system is fascinating to play with

Knowing what I know now, 2 years later... I would totally push that Subaru up that ledge one way or another But also the Subaru is very dead and in car hell now. So shows how much I know 😅

I was just amazed that a 20 year old Subaru had so little rust. Here in the northeast Subarus are everywhere due to their handling in the snow but the road salt eats them overtime (well it destroys all cars here overtime). Fun fact: NY uses more road salt per mile of road than any other state.

This Subaru started life up north, but moved to Florida pretty fast. Still not a great place to keep cars clean, but better than the rust belt.

That is why it is wise to get treated with rust protection or treated over the life of the car. I have an 05 Subaru that I treated the rust on that was developing on the rear subframe before it got to bad.

I wish I didn't have to worry about the numbers, but I have to make decisions about time management... What direction is worth following, and what is not. The oldest and crappiest Subaru will destroy any Jeep off road as long as tires and ground clearance is held even/accounted for. Subarus probably have the best AWD system you can get.

The funny thing about this is? That Subaru will out 4 wheel that Jeep any day of the week, if done fairly. For example; The Jeep is lifted, the Subaru is not. So, no obstacles that require clearance would be fair. Second? The Jeep has oversized, very agressive offroad tires on it. The Suburu has slick, relatively treadless street tires on it. And youre comparing on slick mud despite the Jeep clearly having an advantage due to expensive tires... Even up the vehicles, put aggressive tires on the suburu etc... And I will GUARANTEE you it outperforms the Jeep as far as traction is concerned. Ive had many offroad trucks for 4 wheeling fun, and I drove numerous Subarus for many years living in northern Vermont, in blizzards and many winters in the snow. Unbelievably, the Subaru WILL put that new Jeep to shame!, Its so bad, it almost embarrassing when passing a stuck Meep thats all, decked out, when youre in a bone stock Subaru with-completely bald tires. Lol. Oh and BTW... The older generation Subaru wagons, (the older ones you needed to manually put into 4 wheel drive by a lever inside, were exceptionally better for traction than the “ ewer” models like you have). much older than the model you have here, were even at least twice as good as yours for off-roading and unbelievable traction.
