CLUBFOOT BABY GETS CASTED AGAIN AT 4!
Ойын-сауық
Oh boy. I had some P.T.S.D today watching this poor kid get casted again. For those of you who are new here, Niko, baby #7, was born with clubfeet. Technically it was a unilateral clubfoot but they ended up casting both feet because his “normal” foot was very kidney beaned even though it wasn’t officially clubbed. We have had a long journey, me and Niko. He was casted at 2 weeks old, and then every week after that for about 2+ months. He developed awful pressure sores and and painful blisters and one where I had to get the cast off myself and treat a wound like a burn. Then he was out in 23 hour wear for 3 more months-only one hour free, once a day, and when he was casted, it was one bath a week! Sucked. But thanks to @the_orthopedic_partners and Dr. Marcella Woiczik, she is a miracle worker and master clubfoot specialist. She trained learning the #ponsetimethod and unfortunately Niko lies in the 20% of kids who relapse. He fit three of the 4 categories for regression in a clubfoot. Which BITES! So he will be in this cast all the way up his leg to correct the supination for two weeks. Then another cast (midcalf) for two weeks to stretch the Achilles, most likely a unilateral brace at night, and if still no improvement, a tendon transfer surgery. Good gravy that sounds intense and I was close to do that with my wrist when my nerves were literally not function whatsoever. “I’m not getting any signal,” is what the doctor said while conducting a nerve conduction test. I’m currently sitting with him in his bed while he cries from discomfort. Hoping it’s a quick two weeks. His first night as a newborn with a new cast was hell. Then when he was double casted it was even worse. And then putting the braces on and sleeping with that every night for 4 years? It was long and hard and here we are again. But I know he’s in good hands. Just look at the poor kid walk! 😭 Uggggg. Grateful for dedicated doctors (she colored with him for so long) and modern medicine and equipment! #clubfoot#clubfeet#cast#plaster#clubfootcutie#bnb

What a great doctor I ❤how she included Nayoma
He did so great while getting the cast on. One big positive is not seeing him in pain like when he was a baby. I hope this treatment will help and not be too uncomfortable. Best wishes, Niko!!!
I am so glad Nico has help to correct what is a crippling condition if left untreated. You're doing great Nico! 👏❤
My grandson just had to do the tendon transfer in September and he walks even worse now. Praying this casting works for him and he doesn’t have to do the surgery ❤ you got this Niko

I am so impressed with Niko. He just loved going on the paws on the floor. He was just chill and acts like this is no big deal to get a cast on. I hope and will am praying this works so he doesn't need surgery. You should have showed them the last video of him doing the frog like jumps and how amazing he was. Nayoma was adorable with her cast. You can tell this is a good Dr. and everyone is so good with children. I was picturing him going home and all the kids crowding around him cheering him on. Asking positive makes such a difference for your children Julie. I had one child in Primary Children's for a week and a half. I was walking around and this Mother was literally full on crying because her child needed an IV. I almost told her go look at all these brave parents here with children who have major things going on. They cheered on their kids.
Niko, you are a trooper! I hope the recasting is all that's necessary, and no surgery❤❤❤Nayoma was very patient, I'm sure this visit took a while!

Good job NIKO
Niko did so well! It was definitely those Superman stars that helped him get used to it so quickly!! Nayoma was also awesome! You could tell she was so bored and tired, but you and the doctor both did awesome with helping her feel acknowledged and included 🥰😊 And of course Julie, you are a Wonder Woman mama tackling everything with grace and confidence!
This Dr seems so much more compassionate and gentle.

I just have to say that the female doctor is absolutely amazing!!! She is so sweet and loving with little man( I don’t know if that’s Nico or not)
He is such a trooper my son had that done when he was little and they also had to cut his heel strains
A true warrior!!!!!
My daughter has bilateral clubfoot. Her right foot relapsed several times and she had two different tendon transfer surgeries. We even saw Dr. Ponseti on one of our appointments! She is now 21, was a high school athlete (track and soccer) and is now studying to be an athletic trainer. I hope that this round of treatment for Niko goes well. I am grateful that clubfoot is very treatable Not at all fun, but treatable!
Feel better soon ❤
I dont know if this helps or not but this is what each letter of CAVE stands for The C stands for Carvus which is tight intrinsics which is to do with the the shortening of the interosseous muscles. The A is the Adductus of forefoot (tight tibialis posterior) which is swelling in the tendon running from the inside of the calf to the arch of the foot. The V is Varus which is an anatomical part is turned inward toward the midline of the body to an abnormal degree. And The E is for Equinus, which is all to do with limited flexibility in the ankle joint which in turn limits the toe to shin movement
