I couldn’t be prouder of this boy. Two solid weeks with a tweaked knee, sore on the top of his toe, bark in between his toes, an itchy leg, a dirty foot, an inner thigh that was constantly pinched, and a cold left bare leg🥶 His foot looks better. Cracking that cast open was major ASMR and reminded me of the sound of cutting a watermelon 🍉and cracking it open. #satisfying He could barely walk on it with the cast off-crazy how muscles atrophy so quickly. His right leg will always be shorter and smaller. His leg was washed, moisturized and cast #2 went on for two more weeks but I’m so glad his knee is free. He sleeps so much better and will be walking more flat footed so he won’t develop sores. He looks great. After this cast, he will wear a unilateral brace at night and hopefully we can avoid a tendon transfer. If you need an amazing pediatric orthopedist, i highly recommend @the_orthopedic_partners and Dr. Marcela Woiczik. So much so, that we left Shriner’s to follow her. Her casting is far superior than all of her colleagues and her expertise with bones 🦴 is unmatched. And she does a lot more than just clubfeet. Breaks, fractures, you name it--You know, it’s interesting posting this the night before Easter. I don’t mean to be cheesy, but while I watched myself clean Niko’s feet, I had to go there. I thought of the Savior washing his friend’s feet. Probably filled with dirt and sand, maybe callouses or blisters from the old and tattered sandals, maybe long and gross toenails, dry and cracking heels, and he washed them anyway. To serve them and honor them. And then there was a woman who washed the savior’s feet with her tears and hair-desperate to use anything within her grasp to show her dedication and commitment to him. It was a WOMAN. I had a tiny glimpse of the love Jesus must have felt for his apostles when I washed Niko’s dirty feet. I would do anything for him, and all of my kids, and washing his feet was truly an honor for me, and for this little 4 year old boy. And how much more must Jesus have loved the woman who washed HIS feet? Thankful I was allowed glimpses of the compassion Christ felt for us, the woman felt for him, and I felt 4 Niko
