This guy is making me a better golfer. I love the direct approach the videos are not too long they are just the right length and this guy really knows what he’s talking about. I’ve cut seven strokes off my scores in about three weeks time just by following his instruction. Thanks Kerrod

This is a great, comprehensive lesson. IDK why too many teachers/pros totally overlook this aspect…and some flat out call it a fault. Forward lean at address is the difference between contact and duff. It’s amazing.

I’ve just discovered this as I was rebuilding my swing. So I came looking after finding my issue and absolutely flushing irons now. Like flushing. And it was all because I was hooding my face and closing it down because I was forward pressing with the face slightly closed to the path. Woweeee what a difference.

So when you do this, does your clubface look open at address?

  • @kevinstanley5945

Hey Kerrod, In my setup routine, I walk up to the ball and align the leading edge of the club down my target line. If I run the club down my left arm as in the video, do I essentially "close" the club face by keeping the leading edge on target line or allow it to "open" as if the club were pointed at the center of my body?

  • @tri99100

Thank you for this video. I am the person with the hands too far forward and the reason I find myself doing this is because I am trying to visualize lining up the face of the club and what I find is to do this my hands end up too far forward. I have so overthought this that I find myself almost paralyzed over the shot on the course and this has led to all types of problems including the dreaded "S" word. I never had this problem before and I'm not sure how I got into this. The one thing I haven't seen in a golf video regarding this is that for the more lofted clubs to keep the ball in the middle of the stance the hands come too forward. So my question is to keep the hands at the relative position you talked about in the video does the handle have to be turned to get club face from being shut. I have tried that and it seems foreign to anything I have done. PS: I have retired almost a year and maybe i am spending too much time watching videos and have really got my self screwed up lol. Thanks for any type of help you might be able to give.

My tennis background gave me the ability to hit hard but rarely straight or lofted. I made this simple angle change to my swing this week and hit an even par front 9 on a par3, out of absolutely no where! (I'm a 22 handicap). I was completely in shock how straight and how much loft I got.

Unrelated question, but i see you have the clubface square in your grip? Do your keep it square at address of the golf ball? or do you open it up slightly behind the ball at address? I struggle with hitting lots of shots to the right.

Why is this not talked about more, this blew my mind... im a decent golfer and I always played with the handle at my center and I struggled with flipping, not being to make a full turn, and chicken winging and feeling bunched ip through impact(probably cause having the handle for back alrwsy had my left shoulder turned some), im.abour a 9 HC and I attribute any improvement I've made simply to hitting a ton of balls over and over with my swing and having a good short game...but my full swing always had pulls and pull hooks and getting way too quick...I donr know why I never thought to slightly move the handle forward, I do it with my wedges all the time and I hit those great...I tried handle slightly forward today at the range.and I started hitting pushes and push cuts (which is totally fine for someone who has struggled with pulls his whole.life), I think I'm still used to holding it off from swinging over the top for so long

I am working on something that I can do easier I found my problem at p1 on the way back down, if I try to hit a fade the shaft is too far out, if I try to hit a draw it’s too far inside. I know it will never be a true 0. But I’m trying to find something that doesn’t make it as drastic

At address, where does your left hand appear to be when you look down - On top of the left foot, left of the left foot? And how many knuckles do you see on your left hand if the clubshaft forms a straight line with your left arm at address? The grip is key, but it depends on where the shaft is pointing at address whether you see 1 knuckle or 2 and 1/2 knuckles. True?

  • @michaelburke4891
    @michaelburke48915 ай бұрын

Kerrod, isn't a golf iron built so that when the clubhead/clubface lies square at address and is soled properly, the club shaft is angled towards the target (i.e., forward of the ball) so that the golf grip will also be forward of the ball at address? In other words, to be square at address, your hands are always going to be slightly forward of the ball. Do you agree with this?

  • @kerrodgraygolf

The point I was trying to make is not only is the club designed to be struck with a de-lofting blow (as you correctly state) but that the design of the club requires the shaft to be angled forward in order for the clubface to be square at address. The reason I mention this is for years I had the handle pointed at my belt buckle at address and could never figure out why the clubface wasn't square. Only after I moved the handle forward of the ball did I realize that this is how you get a square clubface... a fact that I was oblivious too for years! Thanks for the video.

Would every club basically just sit at address close to the sweet spot on the groove in relation to the ball? Also, hate to be the "what about the driver guy" but I also suck at address with that club as well.

At address, the wrists should generally be in a neutral position. The wrists should be in a slightly flexed position at impact, with the hands ahead of the clubhead.

Ok great , BUT when do you want people to take THE grip then, because if you grip it neutral when it is straight in front of you , it Will be weak when you out it forwards, vice versa, so my question is lets say "when do i take a neutral grip" when the club is aligened with the arm i should see 2 knuckles or what?

Think I'm too far forward, ball comes off low, hard, with inconsistent direction. I really compress the ball, take divots, but not always straight with soft landings on hard greens. I want my irons shots to be higher with softer landings. I moved hands back a bit and feel my grip is weaker, and the shots now go higher and straighter. Good tip but will take some getting use to
