Club Brugge is undoubtedly one of the biggest football brands in the Benelux nowadays. The new stadium of the 17-time Belgian champions is to be built near the current venue on the site of the Olympia complex. The battle to build a successor to Jan Breydel Stadion has been going on for over 15 years, with fans constantly complaining, and the project cannot be implemented.
Despite the pandemic, however, it was possible to select a consortium of contractors and an architectural concept that met the infrastructural and financial expectations. In October 2021, the government of Flanders gave the green light and issued an environmental permit for the construction of a new facility in Bruges. The stadium is expected to hold over 40,000 seats, making it the second largest stadium in the country, after National Stadium in Brussels.
