I'm happy someone else finally brought it up. The whole "this is being panned for being too disturbing" is the stupidest crap I hear about horror movies. People wonder why modern horror movies are all cheap jumpscares and boring re-hashed crap, but the reason is because people are too afraid of any horror movie that breaks the mold, despite the fact that's exactly what horror movies are supposed to do. HORRIFY you. Back in the day, Texas Chainsaw Massacre was considered absolutely terrifying. Why? Because not many movies depicted such horrific violence in that way. Despite it's low budget, the movie was a hit because it horrified people. Same thing for Psycho. Psycho was one of the first movies to depict a murder on the big screen, and people were appalled. Now that bloody murders and gore have become circumstance as people were desensitized to it, it takes a lot more to horrify people, but anyone who DOES horrify people are critically panned for doing so. It makes no sense to me. When I originally read reviews on Clown deciding whether to watch it, I couldn't believe that one of the negative reviews said "Just because you can make a realistic prop of a child's arm doesn't mean you should". Actually, in my opinion, yes it does. The monster in Clown was TERRIFYING because it was a child eating demon. And instead of it being a child eating demon by word of mouth of characters spouting exposition, it was shown to you. Quite graphically. While none of the deaths are "on-screen", they did do the gore pretty creatively (something that surprised me compared to Eli Roth's other films). Closing out my small novel here, I like films that push the boundaries. That have an interesting and scary premise with a good delivery to create something that makes me afraid. That's what horror is to me, I should be horrified. And I hate to see movies get destroyed for that. Some try too hard (look at Human Centipede 2 and A Serbian Film) to the point of being completely bonkers and worth nothing more than shock value, but movies like this push the boundaries enough to truly make something scary.

I think this is why IT got popular, it’s one of the only modern movies that has tons of gore and shows a whole death instead of just showing what causes the death, then cutting to the next scene.

I didn't notice at first. But yeah... the cuffs go from loose over his hands to tight around the wrists. Gradually his skin color matches the collar so you can't really tell wear the suit ends and his skin begins. Until finally not just being skin tight but actual skin with muscle definition.

This is so underrated 😂

I really liked Clown. It's a small budget horror that I thought delivered on the dread. It had it's campy moments but the horrific ones outweigh them. In some ways it reminded me a bit of The Fly and its body horror idea about losing yourself. I do agree that the child killing aspect of the movie probably kept it from getting more exposure but given the premise they actually were rather restrained on what they did show.

Usually trolls were talked about as mostly solitary creatures that just wanted to be left alone, otherwise there might be retaliation. In Iceland, winter starts at the end of October, following the old Norse calendar. This calendar only consists of two seasons, winter and summer. There are 26 weeks of winter in Iceland, and 26 weeks of summer, which is 6,.. but yeh :P

Perhaps the clown suit is like the symbiote. They just have to use Spider-Man logic and use noise to remove the suit!

Despite my weak stomach for graphic child murder, overall, I enjoyed *Clown* as a callback to classic cheesy, dumb, over-the-top B-horror films. While it is as dark at points as Roth's usual work, I don't think it was meant to be taken too seriously.

I found the cloyne reference on Wikipedia. I don't know if it was there before or after the movie but apparently the way it's described in the movie, it is the actual legend. Also it's Nordic. Maybe it is colder - winter - there for five months (five kids). Anyway, it was a pretty good movie, if a little by the numbers.

I just remembered there's an aqua teen hunger force episode called "the clowning" which is actually kind of similar to this, minus the eating kids part.

Nice review Decker, you answer all the questions I wondered about in this horror movie, when I watched it last year. And I have to affectionately ask, how many Weird Al Yankovic look-alike contests have you won? I would LOVE to see you team up with him.

Only thing i have to say, the extra blood everywhere is from mr.clown's hands as he sulks around

Which is the third good and the OK one? Signs and The Village? Because for me, after Unbreakable they're all horrible. I like The Village's atmosphere in the beginning, but it turns out to be as bad as all the others. And Signs is one of the most terrible movies I've seen, starting the Shyamalan trend of Shyamalizing his actors into complete bland emotionlessness.

Alexandre Martins the third movie is Split, which was actually good, and the okay one was indeed Signs. It's just my opinion on that one though.

I actually enjoyed this movie it was actually one of the better recent horror movies I've seen because it scared me alot which is what most horror movies don't have an affect on me now.I will admit this movie is a 4/10 as I hated alot of parts and there were some inconsistencies.

The melody of the beginning scenes of the movie is a sped up off-key version of “mad world“ by Tears for Fears

In fairness, and this is coming from someone who grew up in Alaska, I can attest that when you are that close to the Arctic Circle, winter tends to be abnormally long. I've never been to Iceland, so I can't say if winter there is five months long, but I don't have much trouble believing it.

Considering your show takes one week to make and, the average 22 minute run time it would work as a television show

This is like if someone was given the book/movie "IT" in a different language, then told to create an origin for the movie monster.

I see why this is number 1 on popular. Seen this many times. Decker, you made this video commentary really good and funny too. The movie seems good by me watching this review. In fact, watching reviews you made, made me watch the movies and mostly like due to you. This is my favorite video on your channel. The video I have watched most. I don't know if you take people's comments about your look and hair style as insults and I highly doubt that the commenters mean it as insults but you are a genuine rockstar about being a KZreadr. Can not wait for the future of your channel!

So this movie is it but you become the clown and the loser club dies cause the kids that died is the same amount as the loser club

A slight correction, Iceland actually has a slightly longer winter, I believe it starts in October for them. So while in the general sense you were right about it being only 3 months in most locations, Iceland does in fact have 5 months of winter.

Bruh, I totally forgot this was a thing. I remember that trailer now, and hearing Eli Roth's name and all that, but I never knew they made a legit movie. Nice.

I enjoyed that old mans preformance though

I love this channel because it reminds me of earlier TheNostalgiaCritic, and that makes me very happy.

Not saying he doesn't deserve it, but why is THIS the review with 1 mil views? Congrats, Decker!
