This game is being created by Autumn West and Talia bob Mair - creator of Perfect Vermin, Swallow the Sea, Pit of Babel and Brutal Orchestra! The platforming levels play like a blend of Super Meat Boy and Sonic. The levels are short, but challenging (especially if you're going for Gold), and between levels you can go for a wander and meet some weird meaty friends! :) Because the video has been edited to remove a few hours worth of failed level attempts, it may look like you spend more time talking to the characters than playing the levels, but when you actually play the game there's a good balance of gameplay and chatting.

Clown Meat is my favorite kind of cute. They're freaky, but their personality is akin to a small child. I want to hug them.

From what little I am able to tell from the game's intro sequence, I can only assume the game takes place after a biblically accurate round of Space Station 13 where the station experienced a clown takeover of some sort.

I like how everyone looks freaky but many are grounded and very kind. Bruno and Delilah are delightful and Clown Meat is curiously adorable and so innocent.

I love this, everyone's a little silly, and a little sad, and a little broken inside. But hope and laughter prevails.

real "Congratulations!" hours

From what I can gather of the central narrative; an ancient and powerful being akin to a clown basically tried to commit un-life by jumping out of Jupiter, but hit earth. In doing so it is badly damaged but not truly "dead". Helpers of this being are trying to revive him, however his "dream" is making humanity think of nothing more than to go into the circus tent he is housed in unless they wear clown makeup. The helpers basically took segments off of the main being and tried to "breed" a proper living creation to perform some sort of task to the original being, but fragments of the being manifest as hostile clown creatures that are little more than aggressive animals. Our little Attempt 47 - Clown Meat is darting through the chaotic landscape to try and reach the being and accidentally rounding up a ragtag group of humans who somewhat get along. That said, Nosewall and the Digging Man indicate that Clown Meat has a very limited lifespan, as do all the creations, and must complete this task before expiring. ... I THINK that's right... Oh, and trivia, the main original Clown's face is a slightly tweaked version of Tim Curry's Pennywise performance from IT.

I'm quite intrigued by the state of the world and the Jovian Clown and the Ringmasters. Will you be working on alternate endings or will there be only one true ending? The car fellas is what a 20s college group chat perfectly described Keith is the ongoing and counteractive Devon is the perv and loud Val is the intelligent and a silent Gareth is the sleeper but catches the context quickly Izzy is the snarker and sarcastic

This game got me surprisingly emotional -- which makes sense, Perfect Vermin is far, far more than enough to show how competent these devs are at making a game that can hit on a hard level, but, damn. Excited for when this comes out, it hits a lot of different buttons for me that I didn't know could all be got at once

You've got to love how upfront the lore is. "A giant, eldritch clown came out of Jupiter and crashed on Earth. It drives you mad unless you wear clown makeup. Deal with it". On a more general note, I love the combination of themes. On one hand, cosmic horror, existential fear and regular human depravity. On the other, compassion, tenderness and love even in the middle of the clownpocalypse. All neatly packed together with a good dose of absurdism. Sadly, I'm not into platforming games, but I'll be sure to check on its development.

I’m really not into platforming games either but this one’s surprisingly been an exception for me. I’d recommend giving it a shot, it might surprise you, especially as a fan of the lore

Haha, there are plenty of other things that clowns are made of - teeth, bone, hair, make-up, nightmares and children's tears! Meanwhile, I'm made of screams and pizza. :)

The interact action being a little toot is so fucking cute. I can't even.

In fact, gameplay-wise, it's a meat boy, only in this case with very cool levels. Other than that, it's a very strange thing.

Although both being precision platformers it actually controls very differently than Meatboy. I’d recommend giving the demo a spin when it releases in a few hours to feel the difference between the two yourself!

To all my people with Coulrophobia - Better make yourselves a cup of hot chocolate and give this one a miss, you might just fall for Attempt 47 and then you're going to be even MORE confused! 😂

For writing Skaterboy, I conducted some in person and over the phone interviews with folks who have Down Syndrome and play video games. Genuinely super kind and often staggered positive people that I think society often mistakenly thinks are to be pitied. We offered if any of them wanted to voice skater boy but alas, none took us up on it. 🛹

The gnome thing is now my new favorite

I really really like the atmosphere, the character design and almost all of the dialogues. The game part seems rather boring to me, but that's just my personal preference, i understand there's a crowd for it. Overall pretty interesting

Hi! It's a bit like Meat Boy, in that the levels can be completed in seconds, but you'll replay them a lot to get the gold ratings. You you can also just play through the platforming levels and ignore the characters if you like, but I really loved meeting them all!

The game has a lot of emphasis on speed running so when you edit out most attempts but your best it makes the game appear overly dialogue heavy. There is normally a lot more gameplay between dialogue than what it looks like here.

Due to how the video is edited, it makes it appear the game/demo is much more dialogue heavy from moment to moment than the actual experience. In actual hands on playing, you will spend the majority of your time in levels and not talking to NPCs All dialogue aside from the intro, skateboard guy and Nosewall is completely optional.

Hi! Different characters in the game have different perspectives (as in real life). I think the devs make it clear that Bruno and Knives' views on the topic are coming from a place of uninformed ignorance. It's definitely not the devs' saying genitals determine gender.

It’s all optional minus the Intro, MeatBallMode Tutorial and Nosewall Encounter. You can play the game and skip all of it with no downsides. It’s purely there for folks who like additional lore and characterization.
