Located in the heart of Oregon, Mt. Bachelor's new lift, Cloudchaser, opened to the public on December 16, 2016. Cloudchaser accesses 635 acres of previously unserved terrain and is the first new chairlift to be installed since Northwest Express in 1996.

    They glossed over the fairly interesting bit about splicing the rope. The splice is hundreds of feet long and takes a bunch of hands to accomplish. Its an old school piece of work.

    This is my favorite mountain . I know there is bigger, and maybe even better but this will always be where my fondest memories remain. Mount bachelor never gets old. From the marshmallow to the outback, I’ll always love it

    Mt Bachelor’s entire Operation from marketing themselves all the way to building a chairlift and everything far and in-between just amazes me! Keep up the hard work, and I will continue to support the mountain in any way I can!

    @@EmotionalWeather A quad chair is fine most of the time. A wider chair would deposit riders too quickly and cause congestion at the top.

    Wally Kramer In the US it seems like that is true. I think I‘ve only seen 1 6-seater when I was skiing in Utah. 6-8 seaters are kind of normal in Germany/Austria, the big resorts have them everywhere. The resort where I was a week ago has 12 6-seaters and 5 8-seaters

    @@iancho9587 that's fair, I agree that the lifts in Europe are better. But that being said, there's way too many gondolas that make coming back up way slower, due to having to take off your skis etc. I'm European living in Denver and I think I like the systems used here better, for maximizing my skiing fun.

    @@josephauler6165 I live in Switzerland and Laax is probably the worst in terms of lifts, so many old ones and you always have to take your skis off. But yeah most places in the alps have amazing lifts.

    All good and interesting but why is skiing in the USA sooo expensive? Equipment nearly double, lift prices sometimes double, sometimes tripple of what the Austrian charges in the top resorts like Ischgl or Kitzbühel.

    Probably because Australians are amongst the keenest and best traveled skiers around plus their engineers are pretty versatile. Theres a few chairlifts and a gondola being being in Australian ski fields at the moment.

    they can turn, but it's kinda uncomfortable to ride. There is one at Alta utah that turns and you definitely feel it. The tower setup looked more complex too as it needs extra lateral support.

    5m/second 1000ft/minute Damn now that's how fast all Bike Park lifts need to be! not 15-20 miniutes for 385m of vertical, or 8 minutes for 350ft of vertical. Not hatin, just damn most lifts are run too damn slow (won't say names) ;P

    The last thing Bachelor needs is more lifts. They can't even open all the lifts they have now. They should put in night skiing thats what they really need.

    Colorado and Utah use extremely expensive lifts. Oregon is not as popular and doesn't have as many resorts or skiing tourism as those states so doesn't have the money to spend on gondolas and lifts. Not to mention Bachelor costs about $175 for a 2 day pass, and kids under 12 can ski for free. I can't find any European tickets where kids ski free. And the average cost is 60-80 euros per day while kids average 40-50 euros. For families this mountain is cheaper then most of Europe and it's certainly cheaper then Canada which is more expensive then the US

    It's funny to see American beeing amazed by a 4 seater detachable chairlift. Here in France, small resorts have 6 seaters detachable chairlifts, and most of them have gondolas.... If a resort in France invests in a non-detachable chairlift., everyone complains

    "shields"? Maybe you mean canopies? We don't have those in Oregon. Don't need them. Lifts will be closed if the winds are strong enough (45-50 mph with higher gusts) or if surface visibility is very low (like 20 feet).
