I have spent many years living in forests, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you, that nature is one "Titanic" flow, with little or no margin for error at times. Please be vigilant. You cannot imagine how much sleep I would loose if something happened to you !!!

+Brad McBride that wasn't 30 feet behind you it was above you at less than 1000ft the flash would be bright and it would be loud. a strike from 30ft away would be louder than the muzzle blast from a 30-06 rifle being fired 5 feet away from

The flash and thunder were almost instantaneous. Like a 10th of a second. At seven seconds per mile for sound to travel what does that work out to? About 75', a close shave. Google the 300 Deer that were hit and killed by lightning supposedly, in Scandinavia.

Phew, close one! I've also had a lightning bolt strike, about 25 meters from me. What surprised me the most was that it hit flat ground (a parking lot). I've always learned that the bolt will hit the nearest *tallest* spot, but this one just went 'Wham!' right into the flat asphalt... It sounded like the crack of a giant whip, amplified about 50 times. I have learned to respect thunderstorms. But still love the sound of roaring thunder and rain. Glad you're okay, Brad! Thanks for all your great work.

Nature is absolutely spectacular. Truly awesome [ I don't mean as in "dude"] Many good men and women have lost their lives for nothing more than a "closer look". I my self have come close too many times. I've met people who "Chase" powerful storms, I've heard of people who give death the finger!! - by dangling themselves in the mouths of active volcanoes. I just hope you will be just a little more vigilant in the future Brad, you seem like a fine person, and you help me get sleep! No drugs or sleep aids work quite as well for me as one or two of your videos. So please try not to get hurt out there!

I certainly hope not, as that would be a sad affair. Sleep dep is AWFUL. Say, odd thought. It may not be in your wheelhouse, but it would be interesting to see/hear an eight hour desktop computer video. You know, just the low audio of the fans and hard drive doing random seeks for a full night.

Forgive me if this has been asked before. I would love to record our summer monsoon storms (I live in southern AZ). Are you just using a vid cam or some sort of specialized recording equipment? Whenever I use my iPhone or my vid cam, it doesn't sound as nice. Or maybe you are post processing it somehow?

I am well aware of how dangerous it is, one night I was sitting by my window watching and listening to a storm outside, I was the only one awake and I was enjoying it (why I love your videos) I was not expecting what happened next. There was a cold white light brighter than the sun and a massive clap of thunder, its concussive blast threw me across the room like a rag doll, it struck right outside the window, 30 feet is scary, 30 inches is far worse.
