Wow, can't believe that I somehow stumbled across this video. Back in 1972 I was working as a nanny in Barton-le-clay. I had a friend who would come and take myself and the children out for drives to visit places. One day she asked me if I would like to go see church ruins and I agreed it would make a nice drive and outing with the children. Little did I know the absolute terror that would await me as we entered the lane to the church. I ended up laying on the floor of the car begging and pleading to go no further. My friend must've thought I'd gone mad, but I managed to pull myself together as we neared the church. We did get out of the car and look around briefly. Graves had been broken open and tombstones toppled. We left and never went back; it was truly the most terrified I've ever been and I'm 70 years old now.

That is fascinating, Carole. May I ask - were you already aware of the strange goings on up there? Is that why you were so effected by the place, because you knew the history? Or did you feel that way, even without knowing? Thanks for the comment, by the way. I'm hoping to grow my channel, so comments like yours help.

A friend sent me this. I was at a boarding school just up the road from this church. In summer, at weekends we were allowed to take a picnic tea and walk or cycle around the area. One afternoon a group of friends and I went up to the church. we were walking around the graveyard looking at the desecrated graves and then went into the church. There were black magic symbols on the walls, it was very creepy. We went back out into the sunshine and standing by what I think must have been Jenny's grave was a woman dressed from head to toe in black wearing a black face veil. and black hat. We all screamed and fled back to our bikes, all thoughts of our picnic tea forgotten. When we were in the 6th form our rooms looked out on to the roof, sometimes at night we would climb out and sit on the dormers. We sat looking towards the church at Clophill and often saw lights moving around. This would have been in the early 70's.

I remember my mother knowing this woman in a cottage on my way to school, she was the witch of the village. She always fascinated and scared me. I remember her cottage as dark and full of old furniture and things. I have heard the stories about St. Marys church before. I liked and subscribed and i am off to watch part 2.

A real blast from the past. In 1970, I was part of a group of girls taking part in a unsupervised orienteering exercise for our Duke of Edinburgh award. We came across Clophill old church. As described ,there were many black magic symbols and evidence of group gathering as well a desecrated graves. The atmosphere inside the existing walls was thick and heavy. No sound of birds or country noises could be heard although they were there outside the church. While fascinated,we did not linger long as we felt both watched and threatened . One member of the group was sure she saw a figure in the tower.I was at a boarding school in Bedford and had heard tales of witchcraft around the area, especially Ampthill where 1 of my nonboarding friends lived and invited me to visit occasionally at weekends. I had not heard of Clophill church until we came upon it that day and even now,40 plus years later can remember the menace and silence within the ruins of that building. I was amazed to see this you tube vlog. Thank you

I’ve actually done 3 episodes on the church. The first episode 9 just tells the history. Episode 10 is the paranormal stuff. Then there’s a bonus episode which came out on the 1st Jan this year about my visit there on the 18th December. I lived at RAF Henlow from age 7-11 it’s not too far. I’m now in Biggleswade (podcast is Weird in the Wade so only a few miles away .) My experiences on my last visit were just some pareidolia where I thought I saw a giant standing in big doorway to church. But I then felt I could hear something like chanting. I became very afraid. But I stood up to my fear. When I was 8 I briefly attended a church in Biggleswade where the devil was believed to be very much real and on the loose. So the Clophill church was seen as the most evil place - like it was satan’s headquarters. I think I was experiencing my own fears at the church that day. Once I shouted out loud that I wasn’t afraid. I was fine.

Early in my archaeological career, I was part of a team excavating the floor of an old church (it was subsiding due to coal mining beneath it and the foundations had to be reinforced). First day, the supervisor asked me to draw a section of an earlier church, down in a 1.5m trench. At my head height on top of the trench lay a skeleton. His name plate on the wall gave his name and date of death (late 19th Century). It was covered with loose soil but the cranium was still visible, including some hair and blood vessels. I had to work with my back to it and my skin crawled. Needless to say , I did not, unlike the two boys, eat my Spam sarnies!!

@@FrightfulPodcast I think it is the building, and possibly some of its fittings, which is de-consecrated, during the final service of the church, by the Bishop, when it closes down. But if human remains, remain in the ground, unless Home Office permission is given for exhumation and reinterment elsewhere, the ground in which they lie is still considered 'blessed', and any new owner of the property has to negotiate how they are to accommodate the remains respectfully. Should they wish to ever remove the remains they would have to exhume them before the ground could be considered free for secular use.

I decided a couple of years ago to visit some of the 'infamous' locations/churches that intrigued me when I was (much) younger. So I've been to Borley several times, including just last Easter weekend and St Botolph's, Lincolnshire amongst others - and I've never experienced anything other than the peace of the countryside. Clophill, not so peaceful despite the quiet surroundings, particularly walking around the graves farthest from the church itself, and I was very aware of the darkness at the base of the tower, it seemed darker than it should be considering the sunny day...if that makes sense. I thought that may be due to the orientation of the church, but still... Looking forward to Part 2!

I can't hear "clop" without being reminded of some of the most degenerate My Little Pony DeviantArt posts that were seared into my memory as a teen. I know a Brony and he's a solid dude so I'm sure not all of them are into the idea of inflating ponies, like with air pumps, until they're as round as balloons, being eaten alive and digested by giant ponies or just wanting to get busy with ponies. They're known as "cloppers," for obvious reasons, and apparently most MLP fans want nothing to do with them. That's a real life horror.

My partner is a paranormal investigator (a real one, not an Yvette Fielding tribute act). We were over from Australia in May last year - the English side of my family live in Flitwick. Took a trip up to Clophill church on a Sunday afternoon. Partner took her gear, we went up to the church, and within five minutes she was getting K2 hits, cat balls lighting up, and more than one voice coming through clearly on her phone app. She used Ghost Tube on that occasion. There was plenty of activity, but nothing particularly negative. After scanning the main church building, we moved down to the graveyard. Now, maybe it is because my partner approaches every location with respect, but after we left tobacco and sweets at the entrance to the graveyard, we both heard very clearly two different voices - one male, one female, at about a thirty second interval - both saying "thank you". Hoping to get a return visit either May / June or September / October next year. Thinking about renting one of those eco - pods on the other side of the lane for convenience and proximity.

the scientist's purpose is not to prove their bias, it is to disprove it, countering their own beliefs. it's widely known that everything TV hosts do is fake and shouldn't be mimicked, including their tools and their intentionally ambiguous use of "evidence" done to avoid actually having anything for skeptics to cite in favor or against the existence of the unwanted afterlife or otherwise autonomous spiritual influence. your partner should apply critical thought and be careful wasting time and money on tourist attractions, or worse, visiting abandoned places where society's regrets dwell in the dark. I believe very much in the paranormal, but if there truly are spirits, something we actually have zero factual knowledge about, then it could be dangerous to just allow people to enter the area en masse and try to interact in some way. This would either make the tourist attractions just that, or extremely irresponsible, as if this is real, it absolutely should not be handled as a zoo.

I live in a town that was established by the government in the 40's. About 30 years ago they closed an old side road that had one of the original churches in the area. I have been told the church is haunted. People say you can see ghosts walking in and out of the church even with the doors closed. People say when driving by on the highway you can hear the bell ringing at night. I once thought I saw ghosts walking around the cemetery next to the church when driving by late one night. Unfortunately it's against the law to get on the property and is very hard to get too.

Alison, this is a lovely comment. Thanks so much for taking the time to write it. That's a great point about a the human voice angle, which I hadn't even considered until you said it. In fact, I wondered if my channel would struggle to resonate, when there are so many faceless, AI generated 'scary true stories' ones. They can be really fun and spooky, too. So it's nice to be reminded that me happening to be a human, can help. ha ha.

@@FrightfulPodcast Of course, it is a long story. I was involved in paranormal investigating for years and creating narrative film, is was during making a film about the place that things went pretty wrong and scary. I even spoke to a police officer who regularly attended the location to disperse teenagers. He told me also of one particular 'violent' case involving a female who was attacked by something she couldn't see. Willing to share. Where is the best place to send?

@@emendymedia I believe you on the things heard but not seen. I've heard them walking around, and have even seen their breath in the light of my lamp at night, I can always tell when they are around by their smell. Some smell like sulfur, and others smell like fresh dryer sheets. The more you open your spirit and mind, the more you open up to their hidden world. It is absolutely fantastic.

Been up there 100s of times back in the CB radio days, And Bunyons house, Cold Christmas always gave me the creeps as well and the old ruin near codicot near hicthin is pretty spooky, And just down the road from hitchin near Stevenage you have Datchworth village, You wan't spooky Datchworth has a history of all sorts of things, And considered the most haunted town in Hertfordshire, With a Ghost of a highway man in the pub and a ghostly cart that travels the lanes at night!!!

@@FrightfulPodcast I haven't been up there in years, We used to respect the place, Not a religious person myself but you respect these places because of what they mean to people whos family are buried their, Halloween used to be pretty weird you used to get every one from kids to people who think there druids, It got a bit dodgy up there think around the end of the 90s we got checked out by the police a couple of time as apparently it was being used for everything from dumping tires down the side where the car park is to people selling large amounts of illegal substances, Thats what the police officer told us anyway, In fairness he was pretty decent so we didn't mind being checked out.

i like the more grounded reality of the reaction of the two boys, modern dramatics i think would have had them freak out in overly animated hysterics that i think many elements of our modern times would have conditioned them too, back then though, two little boys come across some bones, they just want to curiously take a look and are like ".........neeattoo ...." better times.
