You would think people would make the traps more accessible when they do renovations. That's ridiculous to have the traps hidden behind a wall; make a little DIY access door like they did years ago...nothing to make a plumber's job easier.

Or they say they have an access panel, but if their sweep needs servicing, then they are SOL. I started on drain cleaning when I started out my apprenticeship. I still do a lot of that work too. It's always interesting. I've had to rip up people's flooring they had just put down before. They're always like whatever, but I can see it on their faces it hurts a bit, but I try and educate them on what they can do to create an access panel, while still having a beautiful hardwood floor.

🤢😉 but Sandra, I wouldn't put rock salt in your lines. It destroys sidewalks and roads and not forgetting rusting out the under carriage of your vehicle 😬 just imagine what damage it's doing to your pipes!
Always curious why the caps are banged off instead of with a pipe wrench? Is it because they are corroded on? I thought I saw threads. I always worry the trap will break while banging it! Great job as usual!
@rebel3353
Жыл бұрын
definitely corroded in place lol

Yes it was corroded, and I did try to use a wrench, but it didn't give and no room to maneuver anyway 😉
man, every time i see such a nasty swamp of a basement and ruined thingies i can't help but feel bad for the owner, it's so baaaaad 😫😖

2:33 so what happens to all the waste that comes up into the wall? Do people generally pull everything out and sanitize? Or just let it stay?

@@NYDRAINS well, no. I wouldn’t.
Do you ever do any jetting or just snake machine? Also when hammering on the cast iron trap, did you ever snap the trap on old cast iron? Nice job!
@NYDRAINS

Yes I do water jetting as well but it all depends on the customer, yes those old traps sometimes do give way sometimes unfortunately.

In my area (lower Ct) the final clean up would be done by a company like Servpro and the owner's insurance would pay for the bulk of it. They do remediation after fire, flood, broken pipes, etc. Who do you use in your area?
@NYDRAINS
Жыл бұрын
Similar companies.
I feel bad for you every time you’re faced with these tight locations. What was up with the drain cap though? Usually there is an internal lip to secure it down. This time it looked like you were hammering on a mason jar cap.
@NYDRAINS
Жыл бұрын
Lol in time they get corroded and makes it very hard to remove.

Oh definitely!
Was the original intent of the caps for them to be unscrewed and they got so corroded that plumbers just started popping them off?
@rupe53
Жыл бұрын
those caps are made with threads so they could be used either way, but the ones with the lead coating are strictly meant to be pounded into a non-threaded hub on cast iron pipe. The lead is soft enough that it makes a good seal.
