What strings is those? Aquila Lights or La Bella 17s.... or something?

I have a question. My index and thumb seem to be tripping over each other to hit the second string. Since the open first string is the same note as playing the second string, second fret, then why can't we play the both the first and second string..meaning 1,2,1,5 instead of 2,2,5,2. Does that make sense?

Definitely do whatever is most comfortable for you. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to play this music.
