I served in D Co 2-87 INF. Saw you speak in Iraq Vets Against the War. Picking up the banjo has helped to heal my soul a little.
You're one of my favorite banjo players who's alive.

Thanks, Keith. I call it upstroke or "up-picking." For years I played this piece in a more relaxed two-finger picking style until Martha Spencer of White Top, VA told me once that she preferred my up-picking.

Clifton Hicks Do you consider it the same as Pete Seeger style?
@CliftonHicksbanjo

I think it is very similar--same basic concept. Although I have never read Seeger's 1950s banjo tutor people often use the terms "up-picking," "upstroke" and "Seeger style" interchangeably. I prefer "up-picking" or "upstroke" as these terms are more descriptive and, as much as we all admire Pete, he did not invent the style.
Jake Sebok, how does this version of Buffalo Skinners strike you? Besides being completely awesome?
OHH You wrote it write there up top. Well, now I don't have to spend hours trying to tune by ear to the computer YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYA
Where did you find these lyrics? I've never heard some of these verses, nice up-pickin'!

Got most of these lyrics from Roscoe Holcomb; the verse about the ambush is just something I made up.
is that a gold tone banjo?

It's a 1980s "Goya" that originally belonged to Mr. Creed Birchfield of the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers. I think they were made either in Europe somewhere or in Japan. It's a surprisingly good banjo considering it's not American.
Man I'd love to see you and Cailen Campbell do a set!
Pretty.... and the song's alright too! What the heck is the tuning here??

Thanks for the kind words, Boogie. Banjo is tuned to fDGCD, relative.
I read Guth and Woody's last name is Guthrie.

I am glad you fixed it.
I always have a negative disposition when I see clawhammer, but you absolutely killed it. And the high and lonesome voice is superb.
