i read a poem recently that i really loved talking about bugs and why we shouldn't kill them, i wont post the whole poem but it ends with: "if i am ever caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, just being alive and not bothering anyone, i hope i am greeted with the same kind of mercy" and it helped me re-frame the way i think about bugs. The poem is by Rudy Francisco if you'd like to read the whole thing :)

Watching Maya’s content has genuinely helped me with bugs. I used to be very afraid to the point of not wanting to even get close enough to one with a fly swatter. After watching a lot of Maya’s content about them and seeing how she handles them, I was able to calmly coax a spider onto a piece of paper and let it outside without even having anxiety. They really are just misunderstood ❤

When I was a kid, probably 7 or 8, I found a bunch of what I THOUGHT were butterfly cocoons, I had never seen one before and butterflies were the only insects I knew of at the time that came out of cocoons. I ended up bringing probably a dozen of these "cocoons" into my bedroom, my child brain thought was: they'll grow in their cocoons and I'll come home one day and my room will be full of butterflies and then ill open the windows and let them go and it will be sooo cool. Well turns out they weren't butterflies, they were praying mantis, and my mom came into my room to wake me up for school one morning and found them ALLLLL hatched and all over the place. I still think it was kinda cool, but definitely a lesson learned. Now I'm just imagining what her reaction would've been had they been cockroaches.

@@benadrylgelllzzz5724 it was cool, but there were ALOT of them lol, the eggs or "ootheca" as I learned they were called are actually egg CASES, so they aren't 1 to 1 as far as how many mantises come out of each case, idk how many eggs are in each case but there were probably hundreds of teeny tiny babies in my bedroom and we kept finding dead ones many months later after we thought we scooped them all up and brought them outside

I used to have a neutral-negative relationship with insects until I took an entomology course in college where we had to make an insect collection. Through the process of making my collection my opinion of insects, arachnids and other bugs has 100% flipped. They do so much for the environment, their bodies are fascinating and exquisitely constructed, and they have such a range of beautiful colors. It's true with pretty much anything but the more I learned about insects and arachnids, the less I feared and disliked them. What Maya and Alveus does with their bugs and animal ambassadors is so very important. Interacting with the animals in a respectful and non-fearful way while letting people know more about them is so so important to changing perceptions about uncharismatic creatures like the roaches. Thank you for all y'all do at Alveus!

As a kid, I was obsessed with bugs. I’ve had pet beetles, butterflies, ants, praying mantises, ladybugs, cockroaches, and that’s not counting the ones I befriended in the garden. The worst thing about that was that other kids found it funny to threaten to step on bugs in front of me, bringing me to literal tears. (I cried over a bee getting killed in 9th grade. This wasn’t just an elementary school thing.) Love what you’re doing, showing these lil guys in a positive light. I hope it brings people to realize how important insects are and why we should treat them with respect.

Not difficult at all. Just get yourself a big tub and fill it with egg crate. I even leave the lid open for some days and never had escapies because they can't climb smooth surfaces. I feed them scraps and a fresh piece of fruit every week. Started with 10 males and 25 females, now I have a colony of them in the hundreds. There are some good tutorials on youtube that explain how to set up a breeding tub and it's honestly worth the money. I haven't bought feeder insects online for years now@@michelleb2722

I even have this garden spider hanging around my house she is massive even named her Charlotte to make her less intimidating she moved to a new place on my house because of how many people have been around for my move and my whole family has nicely left her be because to be fair she was at this house first. Crazy KZread channels introducing the internet to creatures like this, and EDF have done wonders with my bug and arachnophobia.

Please more like this! I used to be terrified of many bugs, but have largely overcome and accepted many bugs. Cockroaches are not one of them. I am utterly terrified of these things, I was tensed the entire video but most at peace when I learned how to view them more positively. I want to love roaches like I have come to love spiders and every bug other than roaches, but I'm not there yet, this video helps a lot though.

I don't like them but you've made me hate them less so that's progress and I will not kill them if I can help it👍🏻

I don't hate bugs on principle, just when they show up in your space uninvited. They're party crashers. I love spiders for example for killing pests and stuff, but less so when they jumpscare me in the shower at 6:00 am. Cockroaches are definitely in that camp.

Videos like these have helped me chill out with bugs so much to the point that when I see them I'll talk to them like I do to my cat.

I love you Maya and your energy. I love bugs too and think we all need to love em back more. What is your tolerance for house flies and gnats? I love the advice on keep your space clean since it's good for the brain and keeps the bugs away! Please keep making more fun quirky videos like this. I adore you, QT, Wine about it, Fear and, and all you do. We need more hoomanz like you in the space truly. I never comment on anyone's video despite watching all your comment (It takes a love of bugs for this Doug!). Fr though thank you. Our space needs more people like you.

This is lovely. I may not love bugs but I think its important to respect all living beings. I hate when people just kill bugs for the sake of it, especially if they call themselves animal lovers
