@@Teribus13Yes … He has a BIIIG SM mug … well.. it’s a small picture of an SM ( well, maybe *THE* SM) on the side of a large mug. A decent sized mug. Did I mention that I have a large SM mug (a large mug with a small picture of an SM … *the* SM ) ?? … and it’s now my favourite mug. Mind you - because I’m in Ireland, it cost an arm and a leg with customs duties … the bastards. Ended up costing nearly €30 for a bloody mug. Good job it’s my now favourite mug. If it wasn’t … I’d sell it to banger racers… or chop it up and sell bits of it. I’m sure the handle would be worth a fortune. But itsa good mug. A proper garage mug. I know that wasn’t your question. So, then, this isn’t your answer. It’s still a damn good mug.

Such is life! Around 2000 I bought a Riley 1.5 and drove it the 500 miles home to northern Scotland. The paint was rough but it was generally very solid apart from a tiny hole in the passenger floor. Just doing that tiny bit of welding I managed to set fire to it and the car was destroyed, almost taking my wooden garage with it.

I love DS’s, I absolutely adore Panhard 24ct’s, I fall down on my knees in absolute worship of CX’s, and I don’t mind SM’s either. But you’re absolutely right, there are thousands of DS’s,ID’s and DSuper’s still in the world so Clement, although regrettable, is not a tragedy.

What a glorious end for Clement. Years ago my first car was a Renault 11 which I loved. When I was done with it both my brothers had it for a while but when it left the family it was last spotted banger racing near Aberdeen. I was really pleased to hear that it had gone out with a bang and not a whimper.

I actually saw that panhard befor,e and I'm so glad things got cleared up! I don't think anyone is mad at the "traditional" banger racings, with actualy done for shells. It's more the recent controversies of clean expensive cars beeing destroyed to cause controversy that we dislike, and I'm sure you too. I'm glad it's getting a proper send off!

Well played, Kitch. Clement, unlike other cars in a similar situation, had has a forensic examination by yourself. 1 - Nothing has been left undone. 2 - He has ceased to be, and had so when you took him on, unbeknownst. 3 - The Post Mortem has been done, and there are no more tangent avenues left. 4 - He has served unforeseen purposes in lots of ways. 5 -That he shall take his final bow on a high is a bonus. 6 - That he will contribute to Sophie's Legacy in some small way is a larger bonus, that other vehicles in that similar situation will not have afforded. Finally, you, and his followers, will have our memories.

on the subject of cars stolen for banger racing, it happened to my brother a good few years ago. he had a beautiful Rover P6 3500S (yes the good old 3.5 litre rover V8, that in it's later years got breathed on by TVR) that got stolen from outside his house. we believe it was stolen to be raced as it was never ever found.

Old cars may be MOT exempt but they still have to be road worthy which is the MOT minimum standard its just the owner is responsible not the garage... anyway I live on a farm and can set at least one of my Land Rovers MOT and tax exempt ! A good send off and much better than the crusher. Sometimes a car has to die to donate it's good bits to others, it's something the decent Banger Boys and Girls are very good at. I've previously let two Minis go after raiding them for parts (back when a runner was sub-£100!) and they both ended up as shells for Autograss cars. One is still running round tracks over 20 years later, having been rebuilt as a silhouette and with a V6 in the back!

What a perfect and fitting end for Clements remains 👏👍👍

Richard, you tried your best but there's always a point where you have to make that call. The parts you've sold will keep others alive. In theory everything is fixable but Clement was not to be. Hopefully, working on Clement and the other DS should stand you in good stead for the SM. You've done the right thing. A fitting end for Clement.

Sad to see her go but the right decision. She'll live on in many ways

As the restorer and owner of a Panhard 24CT, although I knew about the banger racer, I could not bring myself to watch the video. I guess I am rather squeamish?

The gear lever could potentially be repurposed as a coat hook.

I always dreamed of an DS until I got an SM. You will forget all about Clement the first time you drive the SM... so get this thing fixed!!!!

Rich, you’ve done the right thing. Clement was unsafe, and can donate good parts to help other Citroens. As for the banger track? As you say, it’s sad but a suitable sendoff for the remains. A good final stop before the bailer.

Good shout Mr. Kitch. Nothing wrong with "racing" a car that can never be fixed, be it economically or otherwise. Also eBay auctions when...?

Like other people in the comments, about ten minutes into this when I saw how things stood, I was fantasising about how you'd do a Viking funeral for a car. But in a way, this will be better: Clement (or the earthly remains of Clement) will go out in a gladiatorial enhancement of the Parisian traffic he was built to flourish in. Morituri te salutamus. BTW, don't push too hard as you're recovering. A couple of friends of mine have long covid, and it is awful: and apparently, if you rush your return to normal, you increase your risk. I know the self-employed can't take time off so easily, but don't do anything you don't have to.

I feel for you mate, l recently had to put the white flag up myself and accept defeat with my camaro. My failing health and depleted resources left me no option but let it go. My camaro was called Rosa. I made a few videos of her on my channel on one of the rebuilds l did. I literally still weep for her, l loved that car so much, to the point l went quite bitter over it. Again mate, condolences , my heart goes out to you . Chin up, at least you can have another car, some of us can't. All the best. Jay

There comes a time when you haave to say enough is enough. If,by letting Clement go, you do some good then Clement hasen'tt died in vain.

I forgot to mention; the 24CT has a spare wheel trap under the boot, just like that Rover P4. Even though my dad had two P4s, I don't remember that feature, perhaps he never had a puncture?
