Very efficient sawmill, cuts both directions saving time and wasted energy in moving the saw head back and forth without cutting on the return. Also thin kerf so you can recover more wood and less wasted to sawdust.

How often do they have to change or sharpen the blade?

The saw change interval depends on the quality of log that you are sawing. Most mills run theses saws about 4-5 hours before they change them and some will run for an entire 8 hour shift before changing the saw.

How is he cutting even when the log keeps jumping up and down as he cuts it? did he just forget to clamp log on a few or doesn't it have a way to grab log and hold steady?? like at 12.55...log keeps jumping up and down as its being cut....

The log at 12:55 moving around is doing so because of stresses in the wood being released as the outer growth rings are cut away. Basically the ends of the cant bow up like a rocking chair rocker and don't sit flush on the bed, and as the band starts the cut the downward force rocks the end up even though the cant is clamped in the middle. The cut should remain even as long as the cant doesn't move forward or back relative to the plain of the blade.

Why in the world don't you turn the log more? Never saw anyone saw all the way to the heart before turning the log.

I was a grade sawyer for years and its been my understanding that sawing in the fashion we see here causes way to much stress on the lumber and also you loose to much value on the rest of your log.

I think it depends on the application and what you're planning on producing. We're just getting ready for an install into an already established circle mill. With all the support equipment and construction its looking to be quite the expenditure.
