A friend shared this with me back in 1976. I listened to it a lot and still know the lyrics!! You just can't explain those days. C.W. McCall with Convoy and the whole CB radio craze. It was a lot of fun as a 13 year old kid, that's for sure!! Sonny Pruitt, BJ & the Bear. Sheriff Lobo on TV. Smokey and the Bandit (of course). This song brings back a lot of good memories!!

In ‘76 I had a two album set , filled with trucking songs, titled “Truckin’on” The album cover featured an artist drawn, really cool looking black and orange Kenworth. The song “white knight” was on one of the albums , I had to get the Cledus album after hearing this song.. Great memories , for sure , Good Buddy ! , P.S. don’t forget about the movies, Duel, .. Moonfire… and HiJack !

I found this cassette in my grandpa's truck, when I was a child. Me and him would listen to this tape every time we drove somewhere. Camping, hunting, or just goin out shooting on a weekend. Now I'm a grown man and my grandpa can barely walk,. Such great meaningful memories. I'm crying just listening to this.

Wow, what an awesome story/memory sir. ❤️ Truly. Do you still have your grandpa? I have an album from when I was like 8yrs old and this song is on it. Back then I used to think the song was weird compared to the others. When I rediscovered it as an adult years ago I found an unexpected application for it. 👍

Found a cassette tape about 12 years ago with a ton of Truckin songs and The "White Knight" is one of my favorite songs. Used to get drunk and bumpin these classics Me being a 36 y/o and a skateboarder & all my friends always ask my "what the hell am I listening too" I say, "some of the greatest music ever made" they just laugh. The classic Truckin music. No one makes music like they did back then it's to bad because 80% of today's music is crap!

Where do I begin? This song is like a country music acid trip between the key and temp changes and these insane lyrics. I love how he calls out the best things in the world is 1. Beaver (vagina) 2. Hot biscuits 3. Merle Haggard. In a 70s country music song! I have to wonder if Cleddus was a truck driver IRL. Wonderful details, like going so fast he was throwing the gravel out of his tires. Like a lot of people I heard this on my dad's trucker song cassette tape back in the 70s. Memories 😏

Down 75 or 85 Or I-20 t'other way Turn your squelch to the right And in the night You'll hear some good buddy say "Breaker breaker Got a picture taker All Smokeys at forty three." It's that Japanese toy The trucker's joy That everybody calls CB Yeah, Citizen's Band, keeps you up to date On fender benders and Tijuana taxis And all them bears out there. Flip flop Now ahead of your children and ahead of your wife On the list of the ten best things in life Your CB's gotta rate right around number four 'Course beavers and hot biscuits and Merle Haggard Come one, two, three, you know Well I was loaded down, coming outta Lake City; I was checkin' out seat covers, young and pretty When all of a sudden there come a call Over my CB, ringin' wall to wall Said clove her double nickels till you hit the ridge 'Cause there's a Smokey picture taker t'other side of the bridgeOh mercy, 'ppreciate that, good buddy; What's your handle there, come on? You got any county mounties out there prowlin', come on?" And he said -- "Ten four...back door Put the peddle to the metal and...let it roar Hammer down...to Macon town... Gonna see my momma...sure Well, the bears are gone Let's...bring it on... The Georgia line's...out of sight Pulled outta Richmond town last Saturday night And my handle is...the White Knight How 'bout it?" "All right, White Knight, hammer down You got the mean machine here." I was a streakin' My needle was a peakin' A right around seventy nine That old diesel juice Was a gettin' loose And everything was fine But wall to wall I got a call Front door, big bear trapper Said, "Break one nine Good buddy of mine You got a Smokey in a plain white wrapper." Well I jammed my stick I lost twenty quick; You could hear them gears a tearin' I got passed by a beaver And a Camaro I was cruisin' alone And going so slow I could count every button on that frilly blouse she was wearin' 'Course there weren't but one "Hey there, super trooper! Yeah -- that's the crafty Smokey over there with a CB of his own Hey White Knight, let's slide one on the super trooper, come on?" "Ten four, back door Put the peddle to the metal, whatcha...waitin' for? That old flop Can't stay in sight Gonna leave you here and say no more How 'bout it?" "Whoa, now, buddy, that's fightin' talk I'd get up there and blow your doors off!" Well I hammered down like I had wings Little gravels in my wheels going ping, ping, ping 'Bout the time I hit ninety-two Saw something flashing' in my rear view Thought to myself that can't be true But there it was, old blue, blue, blueUh oh. Bubble gum machine done hit the jackpot Well I could see that bear, laughing big Hangin' in tight on the back of my rig Right there and then it came to be wall to wall Mm-hmm So in that cold dark Georgia night In the shadows of Smokey bear's blue light I 'cided to make me just one more CB call "Breaker one nine for the super trooper Hey there, Smokey old buddy, tell me if I'm right Are you my front door? Are you the White Knight? Come on?" And he said -- "Ten four, back door You're in a heap of trouble boy...that's for sure Gonna read you your rights, and treat you fair Pull over there With your...rockin' chair Want you boys to know each other real well 'Cause you gonna be sharin' the same jail cell You make twelve cotton pickers I've caught tonight From the front door of that White Knight Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!! How 'bout it? Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!! Forty miles over the speed limit! You boys gonna be here a spell Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!! Hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha-hhha!!"

I performed the Cotton Picker's part in a band called Double Nickels at the Hitch 'n' Rail in the mid 70s. That club was located about halfway between St. Paul and Hudson WI on I-94 when it was still open access highway. Ed Alberg (RIP) was the club owner. The other band members are still with us and in the Twin Cities. Our band was inducted into the MidAmerica Music Hall of Fame in 2010. If Cledus Maggard ever reads this, a huge tip of the hat. That was a happier time.

1975 to 1977 were the golden years for CB radio songs. The 1970’s had both the greatest and some of the worst songs every recorded, but I’d give anything to return to those days. It’s funny to think that when this song was recorded there was a producer in the recording booth saying, “Man! This is gonna be a gold record!”

Dang. Two 18's in a row? And they're supposed to stay alert and coherent enough to do their job? Well, I guess we know he could be a truck driver if he had to.

One day in 1976 they played this song back to back all day long on the radio. I was working with my buddy's and we learned every word. Here it is 2012 and I still remember it. Great funny song! Never thought it would be on youtube. Way to go! Keep on truckin. Thanks for the trip back in the day!

Thanks dude. She also raised me on Statler Brothers, which will make them hard to listen to as well. I had two Statler songs played at her funeral: Amazing Grace for the 1st song, and "I'll Go to My Grave Loving You" as the 3rd and last. It was my eulogy to her, but I can't help but wonder if her ghost encouraged me to choose that song so that it was her last words to me as well.

My dad had this record when I was a kid. I remember playing it on the record player. My mom still has the album. Picture is the album cover I remember for sure; front and back. Several funny songs on that album. Kentucky Moonrunner was one of my faves! I was born in 1977, so it pre-dates me by a year. Good stuff!

DonTittle-I learned to drive a tractor-trailer @13. Dad taught me on the way across west Texas going into N.M. inanold Pete cabover w/ a quad-turbo KTA Cummins and a 15 spd. double o.d. That was in 1977 and I had to give-up driving due to health reasons in 2010. This music sure brings back memories.
