CLEARLY the best starter Pokemon

I think Charmeleon might be feeling a little left out?
Just something silly to test out the Charmeleon rig I've been building.

Amazing work! I just saw your rigging tutorials and damn they detailed. Can you please do tutorial of dinosaur ( something like a t rex ) in rigging or animation if possible?

Thanks LG 😁 I could walk you through rigging Charmeleon. He’s enough of a dinosaur. Otherwise I totally have plans on doing some Jurassic Park themed stuff in the future. But I’ve still got quite a lot of Pokémon stuff so it might be a little while before I get to it.

@@legendarygaming9765 Personally I use AutoRig Pro, but that’s mostly for its motion capture features. Most of the time I’d say Rigify can do a perfectly acceptable job for most creatures/humanoids.

Haha, yes indeed. I did the original shot with a forest background because it was really easy to make with the Botaniq addon. But I didn’t think it made a lot of sense for Charmeleon to be having this conversation in the forest. I thought this design made more sense.

the eyes say so much when any one talks. This should be addressed i found them to be some what static, so like when he says "OH" bit of an eye roll with a hint of a head tilt back. The hands/claws are good but need a little more flow and think shoulders should have some type of shrug motion too. Im no animator but this is what i feel when i hear the characture talking and how i believe i would percieve its motions as it talks. But like i said im no animator, you are 10 times the better Blender user than what i am. just my thoughts.

Thanks John. I think all of that is accurate. I’m still figuring out a bunch of stuff with the mocap. Some of it is technical. Some of it is my acting. And some of it is just laziness 😅 But Charmeleon will definitely return. And hopefully with a more solid rig and better acting skills 😜

I also noticed the eyes the most. Altough my main "issue" with it is that the eyes are on the side of the head while looking forward. Usually animals that have their eyes on the sides, also look to the sides. It probably the results of using performance capture, therby capturing an animtion of a human looking forwards being transfered to charmander, who should actually be looking to the side. Also fun fact about eyes on animals I read or heard somewhere: Predators usually have their eyes besides each other, looking ahead, for better depth perception when hunting. Animals which are more on the prey side, often have the eyes on the sides for a higher field of view to spot approaching threats earlier (with exceptions of course)

@@d0ppelgaenger115 The predator/prey eye placement definitely has some truth behind it. Charmeleon is a bit of a strange one though, as he's essentially based on a dinosaur. And all of the raptor/t-rex references I looked at have eyes on the side of the head, but also have a triangular shaped head. So the eyes can still look past their own nose and look forward. Maybe this is the excuse I need to rewatch Jurassic World. For reference of course :P The mocap is also playing a part here. I think I still need to rotate his eyes more towards the middle. Currently I feel you can see too much of the veiny, back of the eyeball than you should.

@@JamieDunbar While it at first glance it may look like it, theropods such as the T-rex do in fact have forwards facing eyes. I think, while their eyesockets seem to be at the side of their head they actually pertrude so far outwards that it allows them to look forward, over their massive snaut. That combined with the large size of their eyes is apparently part of what made them such dangerous hunters. It was also just a fun fact, not really a criticism of your work, since the original pokemon design also is something in between and can't seem to make it's mind up :) Keep up the great work

You basically hit the nail on the head. I've heard this called the "mascot suit effect", where the eyes and face remain static while the body does the heavy-lifiting. The acting here is well reserved but the facial expressions should be more exaggerated, especially with those large eyes.
