I wrote a script that's around 30 pages. I entered that into some screenwriting competitions at film fests. I got into Cinequest last year! I didn't get into any other fests. But it was cool that it got into a fairly big fest. That was pretty cool. I have been working on writing a short web series based on that script. I just want to make something low budget that I have control over. How about you?

(Did the competitions have anything in their agreements that put some claws into your material?)
Very helpful! Thank you for posting.

Thanks for watching Shannon! We’re glad this one found you!
Great insight and some major dispelling of foundation film legals! The logo one is massive!
This was absolutely awesome and so helpful. Everything they talk about, does it only apply to US copyright, especially fair use, or, internationally too? I’m in the UK and mainly do video interviews with fighters and use just enough fight footage that relates to the fighter, or, that I may be talking about in a video feature. However, the UFC now own a lot of fight footage because they stream a lot of non-UFC fights via Fight Pass; and Spike TV own the rights ultimately of Bellator MMA; and I don’t want my KZread/Facebook video content getting pulled unfairly by not following smart guidelines😉 PS Thank you for this video interview and all your great content on here too.
I notice that a new edition of their book has been released, maybe time for a fresh interview?
What a wonderful interview!

Yes. Incredible information. Thank you
What about the rights of people in the background, as well as logos on stores and things? They mentioned it but what are the details around it? How can you do it in indie?
..great interview now buy the book or suffer in ignorance!!

These questions/concerns really are about 90% the same as in the software world!
I wonder if fair use can be applied to content curation. I want to create a collections of videos from youtube to illustrate an original point, suggestions, and new ideas. Is this legal?
This is great stuff, and I just ordered the book. The only comment I would make is regarding fair use. Michael Moore could cite fair use because he's usually got the backing of an established production company AND his film has insurance OR he has effectively unlimited access to lawyers. For those of us a little further down the filmmaking chain, unless you have insurance on a project (which often beginning filmmakers DON'T) then you are potentially looking at defending the use of someone else's material in court - whether it's legitimate fair use or not. That's a biggie and WILL give you sleepless nights and likely be a major financial cost. My 0.02c worth, I am not a lawyer and this should not be construed as legal advice.
