    I used the 2X on a miniature piano that I had painted and overtime. It picks up a lot of scratches. Not to mention any small drop of moisture will turn into a spot that’s impossible to fix. Just something to keep in mind.

    Hi Welzie. I'm an artist building wooden intarsia pieces which I'm coating with acrylic paint. I should be sealing the pieces with a regular water based sealant / varnish, but I far prefer the Rustoleum clear coat finish. Only thing is I've read that acrylic paint should be sealed with water-based product because the paint is elastic while polyurethane products are not and may cause damage in the long run. Do you have any thoughts on this? How long have you been using this method? I put a lot of work into my pieces so I want to make sure I do the right thing in the end.

    I think it will be fine the enamel spray over the acrylic. But I do suggest doing some experimenting with different products. This spray is a cheap and easy solution but if you are making really cool pieces you should always be using the best possible materials. Stay inspired! Aloha 🤙🏼

    I’m doing an outdoor wooden sign. I’d like to use Posca acrylic markers, but is it ok to use water based paint for something that will live outdoors? Also, what kind of paint would you recommend that I do my solid color base cost with? Sand or not sand? Would this sealant work for this outdoor project?

    Thanks for sharing your amazing work! I also have a unique project and question. I am casting white bonded marble statues and need to paint them with colorful artwork, basically using the statue as my canvas. The statue will be placed in a permanent location outdoors in northern USA (cold, rain, snow, heat). I've been using a Maker-Pro primer as the first coat, letting it dry and then painting using Liquitex acrylics (and similar brands). Then I send it to a fiberglass shop who clear coats it for me. After a month outside, the entire paint job just peels off the statue, like a facial mask. What am I doing wrong?

  • @WelzieArt

    @WelzieArt

    2 ай бұрын

    Painting on Marble doesn’t really work. That’s why you don’t see it anywhere. Since your painting it you might as well use wood so the paint can bond. If you have a good fiberglass shop you can pour the mold with resin and paint that. But you’re not doing anything wrong. Marble just can be painted

    Awesome video! I tried to add a design on scuba diving fins in the past using a white oil-based marker. Unfortunately, after diving with them the design cracked off. I think this is partly from the water but also from the fins slightly flexing. Would this clear coat spray help stop that?

  • @WelzieArt

    @WelzieArt

    5 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately I don’t think the spray will help much. Worth a try but the flexing of the fin is where you’re getting the cracks. You can try an acrylic paint pen, it won’t stay on as long but might have less cracking. But with the amount of flex in the fin you’re going to have a hard time keeping any paint from cracking.

Wanting to brush varnish the piece with gloss to make the colours pop and seal but want to avoid any smearing, can you add a coat of clear coat spray first and then brush a gloss varnish on top once dried? Just trying to avoid smudging the artwork and don’t know if the spray gloss varnish will still help the colours pop thanks!

  • @WelzieArt

    @WelzieArt

    Good question. First you can avoid all smears by making sure your piece is completely dried before doing any more layers. You can spry an acrylic spray over your piece then apply a varnish over that, but I do recommend testing that process before giving it a go on a piece you have spent hours on. Another option is using Mod Podge as a acrylic medium. The stuff works great, applies smooth and thick and really helps acrylic colors pop. It’s inexpensive and can be used indoors and you can paint over as many times as possible. Hope this helps. Have fun and stay inspired

    Hi, could you post what amount of time you sprayed between coats? Are you going to spray a few more coats? There is some controversy over this product and sometimes it hard to know if people follow the directions on when to spray and when to add another coat! Here is just some basic info I found : 1)let your paint project dry and even cure( that is a controversy- dry vs cure) 2) spray 1 coat and not heavy, then spray your 2nd coat -- in UNDER 45 minutes. let this dry for 48 hours, then you can add another coat! 3) IMPORTANT--- if you MISS the window of your second spray( the one in under 45 minutes) DO NOT ATTEMPT to spray--- let your project sit for --48 hours minimum --then spray! Honestly I have only tried this 1 time and doing #1 and #2 - has worked with no problem-- but, I have several projects to do and its the worry of consistency! I really hope you take a look at this video I am posting and give any feed back, any opinion you have is greatly appreciated; here is the topic on another youtube video( I have NO affiliation to this video) below is the name of the youtube video-- its 4:59 long "Rustoleum clear coat issue" I did read a lot of the posts by people-- and found some good info, but too many conflicting opinions, that I think made it hard to have a definite way to work with this product!

    I have a very special project. I distressed my childhood dresser I've had for 67 years. I'm hand painting a treasure map on the drawers. I'm purchasing Caliart Pen Art Markers. Will this varnish work with these pens? Thank you very much. I look forward to your response.

    I’m not sure what type of pens those are but try a small test sample on the bottom or backside of piece before you try and cover the whole thing. An enamel clear spray might just work easier than varnish. Good luck. Stay inspired. Aloha🤙🏼

    @@WelzieArt Thank you for responding! I will do a test spot. It took me days to decide on the paint pens to use over the distressed wood to draw the treasure map. I'm stenciling the sides of the drawers with pine trees. I'm inspired! I used to have a pottery studio and herb business. My health made me give it up and now I just water coloring and jewelry making. This is the biggest project I've had in a long time. Oh! I love to do concrete creations in the summer. Keep those artistic juices flowing year round! Take care. You are inspiration!

    I painted a helmet using the posca paint pens and I used the 2X clear, the posca paint began to crack. How do I prevent that from happening?

  • @WelzieArt

    @WelzieArt

    Ай бұрын

    I’ve made that mistake too. It’s cracking because the helmet is oil based and the posca pens are acrylic. Acrylic can’t go over oil or will crack. Only way to prevent is use an oil based paint over the oil based plastic helmet

    Does this seal the paint markers on Basketballs?

  • @WelzieArt

    @WelzieArt

    9 ай бұрын

    I haven’t tried it on basket balls but I would assume that it might help a little bit but the trade off may be that the ball grips wierd or the spray comes off. If you use oil based paint markers you won’t have to spray it. But either way a high use basketball will wear down the spray or marker. If just writing a name on the ball I would just use an oil based sharpie pen. They work great. Good luck 🤙🏼

    Did you have really thick spray paint you painted over? Cracks generally come from too thick of paint and if there was cracks in the color it wasn’t cracks in the clear coat.

    You can but there are better smoother clear coats. I like mog podge and even just a clear acrylic works great. Spray tends to come out a little more blotchy than painted on clear coats. Always best to try it and experiment u till you find something that works best for what you’re trying to achieve. Good luck. Stay inspired. Aloha 🤙🏼

    @sydneyemeryify I’ve had that happen too. The posca that had been dry for a couple days didn’t smear but the fresh posca did. If you use an acrylic clear spray (not oil or enamel) you. An seal the Posca then apply a painted coat for smoother consistency.
