About mineral oil: I have sensitive skin and have used straight up cosmetic grade mineral oil to melt my makeup. Mineral oil as a cosmetic ingredient is (to the best of my knowledge) completely benign and won't have much of any effect on the skin, for good or ill, because the molecules are too big to penetrate the skin. The only exception, as with any product, would be if you specifically have a sensitivity to it. According to a couple of dermatologists and cosmetic chemists I follow, sensitivity to mineral oil is relatively rare though.

You are completely correct. It's one of the moisturizing ingredients that are least likely to cause sensitivity. Mineral oil is great.

Exactly, same here. There's a lot of misinformation about mineral oil. People talk like you're putting gasoline on your face or something. Another currently maligned ingredient is lanolin, but there's nothing like it for healing damaged skin. It's a crucial ingredient in some old school creams like La Mer, Nivea, and Lancome's Nutrix. It's derived from sheep's wool, and so just as some folks are allergic to wool, so lanolin can also cause allergic issues. Plus, some decry it as a by product of the meat industry, but even if people stopped eating sheep altogether it could still easily be processed from sheared wool with no harm done to the sheep (unless you think shearing the sheep hurts it, a matter of opinion; I'd disagree as there's plenty of evidence out there that unsheared sheep can grow such a thick/huge coat that it's injurious to their health.) Lanolin is about the only thing besides hardcore cortisone and major dietary restrictions that helps my eczema. All just FYI. ;-) Note also that some vegan or vegetarian ingredients, like shea butter, can be harmful/allergenic--shea butter is derived from a tree nut and we know how some people really react badly to those, etc. It's all quite individual!

Esther Herzog I have sensitive skin and I've even used coconut oil to take off makeup. Mascara definitely, and used to put it on at night and then wash it off and not once did it break me out. And certain foundations break me out within a couple hours of putting them on.

I know that Katie Carson (Royalty Soaps on KZread) and Arienne Arsenault (La Fille de La Mer artisan bath products - also on KZread) both use responsibly sourced palm oil in their cold process soap.

This whole double cleanse ‘craze’ makes me smile. ‘Double cleansing’ in the spa industry has been normal procedure since the dawn of time. It’s even how I was trained in college in 2000. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to buy or use two separate products for cleansing. You can cleanse twice with the same product. That’s what I’ve always done during facials, removing each application with a hot towel in between. With regards to people using coconut oil or worrying about having a greasy feeling afterwards, a proper cleansing balm should NOT do that. A key ingredient in cleansing balms, following the oil or butter is an emulsifier. You should apply your cleansing balm onto dry skin, massage it all over the face and eyes thoroughly to break down makeup, then gradually introduce water onto your hands and continue massaging. This activates the emulsifier and the balm will turn milky. This is then very easily rinsed away or removed with a hot towel or muslin cloth with NO greasy residue left behind. I hope these tips have helped someone out there. Personally I love cleansing balms. There is no more thorough method for cleansing. My favorite is ESpa’s or the Emma Hardie balm. The Body Shop’s Chamomile balm is a great, more affordable alternative. If you prefer a creamier formula, I cant recommend Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish enough.

For anyone that is new to or interested in cleansing balms or cleansing oils: they’re amazing. I have oily/combo skin and I’d never use any other makeup remover. BUT they’re actually best used and should be used (like almost all skincare) outside of the shower. That’s because shower water can be overly drying to your skin. Besides that, cleansing balms/oils work best on completely dry skin, and then you can rinse it off super easily with your hands which will be the least irritating to the skin. I do makeup removal, cleansing, and exfoliating before I shower, and when I get out I tone and do moisturizing steps. Skincare is meant to help maintain skin temperatures which can prevent breakouts and irritation. Hope this helps someone 🤗

After you mentioned PF in your fav video I bought it. CVS has it but it wasn't in stock. Next stop was Walmart. Lucky me, there was only one left and the price was a few $ less there. First time I used it was in the shower. I wasn't impressed. Decided the next day to use it out of the shower and wow, what a difference. I loved how well it cleaned my face (it took everything off!!) and how soft it left my skin feeling. No greasy film, no burning eyes, no bad reaction, nada. I know you don't get a lot but in my case using PF vs Clinique just makes sense. I only wear makeup maybe 5-7 days out of the month so the PF should last me a long time. Thanks for the rec'd Taylor. I no longer have to sit there and waste quite a few pads and micellar water. I now only use those to clean on non makeup days. Great video... 👍

Dre on KZread and she’s a derm who talks about ingredients too and it’s so important for us to know what is in the junk we are putting on our face! Please keep doing these style videos. I know you’re just an average consumer but I think it’s really important what you’re doing.

I agree- Physicians Formula is great! Pixi also makes a really good one with a cream cleanser. But my HG Oil cleanser is by Hada Labo- it’s perfection! And it pairs perfectly with Hada Labo foam cleanser which is not stripping at all.

Polyethylene in skincare (if it's not in a microbead form) is not bad for the environment. It actually helps the Farmacy cleansing balm to rinse off thoroughly which is a problem many people have with cleansing balms in general. 😊

I freaking love the lush one! It seriously gets everything off my face, literally EVERYTHING. I can open my eyes even when its still on my eyes. I've been using it for about 6 months now, and I haven't noticed any extra breakouts or anything like that either. It's kinda pricey, but it literally last soooo long its worth it! Oh and I also have sensitive and acne prone skin.

I love Clinique!! I have been using it since it was first launched, I have tried every other Balm & oil I always go back to take the day off. It's the only one that gets EVERYTHING off & rinses away easily!! No idea why I felt the need to comment on this, LOL. I could have sworn you said once you didn't like it?? Any way as someone who is older with HORRIBLE DRY skin (47) I swear when I use this daily it causes me to go from severely dry skin to skin of dry/normal.Which is a miracle as far as I am concerned. Thanks for all your hard work we all appreciate you more than you will ever know!!! Much love 💖💞😘

Elf has the "Hydrating Gel Melt Cleanser" and i freekin LOVE that stuff! It starts as a gel, melts to an oil, emulsifys with water and rinses clean away. It will easily remove even the most stubborn water proof mascara. No eye irritation either. I put it right up there with the Physicians Formula. Its a little pricy but... A little goes a long way!
