Ted Williams was not only one of the greatest ball players of all time, and an avid outdoorsman, he took four years away from baseball, in his prime, to serve in WWII and Korea. When asked what his greatest team was, he answered, "The United States Marine Corps".

Now that right there is the definition of an iconic American badass!! Guys like our grandparents!! Men they don’t seem to be making more of, seems. I’m a big time collector of vintage Weaver and “time-period correct” scopes used by various milsurps from those times. I always heard the name/brand mentioned or in convos here and there, but after hearing that out about him, as well as the fact that the guy practically walked away from a “big money” career w/ a life of fame to serve his country (principle that matters), where to me it seems that the guy perfected, to his knowledge at the time, the “perfect scope.” Now what adds the credibility to me is that first the guy, like myself probably got into hunting from a young age and became second nature to him. Combine the time spent w/ hunting game in various conditions, to then transitioning into “hunting the enemy,” and you got a big selling point in my eyes. Next time I’m staking out ebay for vintage scopes and related items, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on one to test it out myself and eventually even get into collecting more if I like the product. If an 80 year old Weaver meant for a .22/rimfire (technically) can be used on a milsurp/rifle to take down deet within 150-200 yards for me, I bet this brand is right up there as well.

Different time, James arnes from gunsmoke, suffered all his life with a leg shot up in Italy by a German machine gun.
I have a scope just like this, I was shocked to have the first video pop up be the exact same as the one sitting on my desk.

Great scope. Steel body, nice cross hairs, clear lenses.
When does the restoration start?

My thoughts exactly. Videa cuts off at end w/ no part 2 or nothing??
Looks like a Weaver K4. I wonder if they made those for Sears.

You’re right on. Weaver made them and put the Sears name on them.

Just grabbed a k4 60b to clean up and put on my mini14 . Was wanting a post or German reticle but settled for fine crosshairs
How accurate are you with iron sights?

A person can be extremely accurate with iron sites; especially peep sites. The big advantage of a telescopic site is obviously magnification but also light gathering.
" Cleaning and restoring a classic vintage rifle scope." . . Cleaning maybe , but restoring ? Not really . .I agree the wire wool and WD works wonders cleaning rusted barrels etc but the wad sheds lots of tiny bits of wire and the crud it's removed .A bit of (aluminium) tape over those ports would have prevented any entering the scope body.
