Hey JAY!!! I used to work in a lab, so here is some hopefully useful advice to keep you safe and maybe save you some $$$. TLDR: You can concentrate your isopropyl alcohol, and don't breathe in the fumes. If you want to concentrate your lower isopropyl alcohol so it can get to that 98%+ concentrations, you can pour some of your alcohol into a jar and add in lab-grade desiccants (look like tiny stone orbs)into the bottom. This will draw the water to the bottom allow you to draw up the concentrate at the top out. Note: Do not shake the jar afterward, you'll just mix it all back together... trust me, it was a headache when others would do that and it'd take up a couple days before we can use it again for our experiments. Additionally; avoid breathing in those fumes! It'll irritate your lungs and cause potential problems. If you need to work in an area like that, use a fan to help push the fumes away from you and your wonderful cameraman, or use a pressurized area to work in like a fume hood to stop you from looking over it and hurting yourself. Each solution you have like that should have a chemical hazard sheet that you should read and have at your work station in case of emergencies... for legal and safety reasons. We want you to make more content safely. Love your content and I am not trying to yell at you, just want you to live safely and happily with your family, and this helpful and supportive community. Stay sane and keep smiling.

Jay, I work in medical manufacturing and we use these exact ultrasonic tubs. You do NOT want to use alcohol directly in the tub, its a massive safety hazard for a number of reasons. (We get training about this shit, seriously) Instead, fill the tub with about 3-4 inches of water and then put the alcohol in a hotel pan or plastic bin inside the water. Much safer that way and it also helps control the (explosive) alcohol fumes you are experiencing there.

PRO TIP: If you put the card in a sealable glass container (even with a plastic lid), you only need to fill the container with alcohol. The cleaner can be filled with demineralised water. The sound (ultrasonics) will pass straight through the glass. If it is like cleaners I’ve used before, the emitters are up the sides of the cleaner, so placing the card sideways will yield a better result. Imagine tiny blasts travelling from the sides to the centre. Keep in mind, you may need to flip the card inside the container as the effectiveness of the cleaning through the plastic lid will be diminished. Also good using solvents in glass jars for car parts!

A trick we use in RC to clean bearings. Fill USC with water. Then Using a smaller container fill that with your cleaning liquid and put it in. 2 benefits less risk of combustion of agent and less agent needed. I use a beaker for bearings, but any material for smaller container will work, plastic, glass , etc

For the love of everything that is holy DO NOT follow jayz's advice in a closed or poorly ventilated room and make absolutely sure not to sniff to close to the IPA bath, at that concentration and quantity the vapors can irritate your airways and eyes. You can actually pass out from this and never wake up.

Hey jay love your content, you can use way less fluid by filling the cleaner with water, then using a zip lock bag for the card with IPA in it. This was the gross stuff stays in the bag and doesn’t get all over the ultrasonic cleaner.

Hi Jay, I study engineer and metals and we have these ultrasonic cleaner in our lab that we use, a good way to save alcohol/acetone(we use acetone), is to fill the machine with water and use a smaller container to just hold the thing you wanna clean and the alcohol, the fluid is just to transfer the ultrasonic, so you don't need to actually fill it with alcohol but rather just use mostly water. Also, the machine wont be contaminated and can keep clean cause the smaller container will catch the washed off stuff.

Welcome to the world of ultrasonic cleaning, Jay. Brushing/scrubbing between cycles is definitely the way to go for best effect. Also, for adhesives, acetone or paint thinner is better. I'm sure you'll find lots of uses for it now that you've got it.

Might want to check the manual for your machine, some of them REALLY don't like being partially filled and will destroy the traducers. Another thing, if you can get one that is deep enough for a card to fit vertically it will help with getting the particles to move off the card and settle in the bottom of the ultrasonic.

It's good to see some professional electronic cleaning techniques making their way in to the domestic market. Probably still be a while before you have heated wash tanks, 50C ovens and Vacuum ovens appearing though. I love seeing peoples faces the first time they see us cleaning their very expensive electronic equipment in a hot bath of alkaline. Even after over 20 years of electro-mechanical restoration, the look of raw panic makes me smile.

If you want to use save on alcohol get yourself a shallow pan big enough for the gpu to sit flat, fill the pan with alcohol and put it on the rack inside. Then you fill the bath with water until its roughly halfway up the side of the pan. It will transfer the waves to the pan just fine and you then only need to clean small pans and use small amounts of alcohol. This is how we use ours in the lab to process samples.
