Love it never thought about it looks so clean

As an electronics engineer I use the tools in my shed, shrink tubing and a hot air rework gun. First I melt both sides of the paracord so the become hard, in this way I can make a really clean straight cut. Those I put in a tight fitting shrink tubing. Use some force to press both sides of the paracord together and apply the heat with the hot air gun. Of course I don't have that stuff with me on a hike so I definitely will practice on the method presented in the video.

I prefer the second method. For a 2 color keychain with Salomon knots, it's the best solution. Greetings from Germany Piet

I'm a major fan of the Manny method, I do it a little different, but like you said, it's a solid connect. Now I've never tested it under a load, but it doesn't readily pull apart which made it an instant fave... Never got the melt and stick method to hold up that well under punishment

It has to be a fresh melt. If you remelt itll always fall apart easily, but if you cut both ends, melt the loose frayed nylon and stick it together itll be very strong.

Thank you for this. I've contemplated a method to do this but never quite had a success. This will be perfect for the two color snake knot and trilobite cuff. But Tim, Brother, I need info on that bag! I have a Stanley double decker toolbox that I wheel stuff around in but it gets disorganized so quickly, especially with tools.

You're welcome! I would say it's just as strong as the standard way, I haven't tested it, but in my opinion it should be strong enough for bracelet making.

Can you go parachuting with this?

Tried it, but prefer tying pieces together, as it's more reliable, if it undergoes strain. The last thing you need is falling from a height or something heavy falling on you, when the weld snaps.

It's intended for small paracord items, like bracelets and weaving, not for load bearing. Nothing replaces a knot for load bearing, that's for certain.

is there a way to hide melted ends?

I have put the melted ends in the middle of the bracelet or keychain before to hide them within the braid.

Couldn’t you add super glue or hot glue to add strength?

I think I still prefer the Manny method for not having any hard lumps on the monkey fist

Is it worth buying a jig? I have trouble making things with out it. I guess I could build one?

Melting two ends is always the sloppy way to join ends. Quick yea, but ugly. And if you're unlucky, you'll get a big hard spot in the middle of your project. I allways use the manny method. Takes a bit longer, but you'll get a mutch better result.

I get to frustrated trying do this.

Its not that easy. I get burned evry time. And it still gets lumpy. I also add a dab of superglue for strength !

"This is not the strongest method" No because it's the weakest method to join two cords.
