I didn't read all the comments, but would suggest that after everything is opened up, use the blower before using the cleaning cloth. If the cloth touches the "rock" first and it's rubbed all over the virgin lens, the lens could get scratched. Best to try and blow it away, I would think. Great video - it works!!!

thanks for the very nice tip
6 years later and this video is still good! Thank you for teaching me how to clean my lens! I've been worried about paying for a professional cleaning, and now I know how to do it myself!
Great video, thank you. Just cleaned my 24-105 after noticing quite a lot of dust inside. Now clean and perfect as it used to be. Thank you David :D
so glad you posted this bud! like ya said, 10 min and my lens is INTERNALLY clean as a whistle! THANK YOU!
Thank you, David. You explained the lens cleaning process so well. Crystal clear (pun unintended!!). I have the same model lens and saw a smudge and got worried if I need to take it to a camera repair shop to get it cleaned but seeing your video, I feel confident I could handle this myself at home.
Man I remember I took apart my 75-300 USM Canon lens to clean out fungus from the tropics. Took everything apart front, and back. Wow lots of fun, and no you tube back in the day to help out. Put everything back together, and everything worked fine. Ask me to do it today, I don not think so....Lol!
Actually you should do reverse operation. First blow air with the pump and then use the cloth. Oterway if you clean the dust with the cloth you could scratch the glass. Usually i prefert first to remove all the dust whit the pump and then remove any stain with the cloth (sorry for my bad english i am italian)

Huge thanks for this help mate! I had a hair under the front lens for quite some time and FINALLY it's out! Again, thanks for this amazing tutorial, it worked like a charm on my Tamron 24-70/2.8 :)
thank you so much! I have been looking for somewhere to get my lens cleaned inside, your tutorial was perfect, my lens is clean, and I am now going to take a million more pictures than when I fell into dirty lens funk.... xx
Bro, you just made me so damn happy. Discovered sand particles on the inside of my lens. Def going clean it now.
Great tutorial! Just cleaned my lens. Took me sometime to put everything back perfectly but now the lens is dust free!
This was a very helpful video! Thank you! I managed to clean my lens from the inside and managed to put it back together. It works very well! Thank you so much! :)
Thank you very much for sharing this. I was really afraid of opening up my lens in order to properly clean it, even though I had to. Now I can just go ahead and clean them all!
Thank you so much for making this video! That annoying little spot in my photos is gone now. You saved me money and lots of others money too! Now I need to know how to replace the damaged curtain in my Canon 70D
TY TY TY. I am not mechanically minded at all, but I followed your instructions (after going to a hardware store to get a small enough screwdriver) and felt like I was doing brain surgery but it worked brilliantly. :)
I just recently purchased an 85 mm Canon lens that had dust in it so I got a great deal and I just unscrewed it and took it apart cleaned it put it back together again and it’s fantastic! Now I am a better photographer than I was before, LOL

I have the same lense that seems dirty on the inside, was it hard to dissasemble?
A tip I learned when disassembling my SCT telescope's front corrector plate is to instead of using a dark marker, to actually use one or two tiny strips of masking tape - fixed in an upside down U or L shape, both to the inner bit to be removed and the external one on the tube/lens barrel - and then cut it where both parts join before disassembling it.
thank you! i got some dust on the inside of my canon EFS 18-55 shooting storm today and was trying to get it out. thanks to you, i now know what to do!
Great, short, to the point video on how to clean the inside of your lenses. Great job!
Am I the only one holding my breath as you put the lens glass back on? haha.
Im so happy to watch your videos they are so helpful and clear to do what you explain, and it works.
Great tutorial! I was actually able to clean 2 of my most used lenses. One had fungus and the other a lot dust in there. Thanks man!
Excellent. My lens has needed cleaning for a long time. Thanks for this tutorial.
You saved me a lot of money, I cleaned the dust out of my canon lens, 15 minutes for me, the repair shop wanted £90.00p to do the same job, good on you, and thank you for the lesson & the saving.
My Friend. You saved my day. ❤. My first L lens developed a small ring inside the front glass. It was well kept in the leather bag and I got a shock on seeing the spot. Circular ring spot. Thanks a lot. I now know how to access it. Great. I subscribe to your post right away
Thank you for this awesome tutorial . I am very tempted to give it a go myself . 🦘
ALWAYS first use the rocket, if dust is not removed, then use the microfiber or any other "contact" method with the lens.

Have a new camera with dust inside the lens. It's only two weeks old. The house is dusty. The pictures aren't affected so I'll keep shooting but eventually will take it apart. The lens looks just like my telescope lens but my scope is a doublet. I suspect that there's a stack of lenses in that little plastic holder just like the telescope so be careful. Drop one and you're effed.
i think you shouldn' worry about the Canon engineers' opinion. i feel i got all the precious information i need. thank you very much, i think you do the job like a pro.
First thing after you get the lenses out BLOW THE DUST AWAY WITH AIR DO NOT WIPE AS THIS IS HOW YOU SCRATCH THE LENSES,leave the wiping after blowing the dust away

left my canon t5i in the pouring rain sheltered by nothing but a fanny pack. blew my mind to see the camera still turns on but my lense are fogged up. i was afraid to shock the camera (wet wiring & energy transferred from battery) by turning it on right away so i let it sit by a sunny window for a few days when i came back i checked the battery comp to make sure it had dried and it did. i think the moisture and sun caused the insides to fog so like you said. ill be doing this tomorrow
Really appreciate these lens videos. Thank you.
Your video is very helpful. I currently have this issue with dust on the inside of my 18-135 Canon Lens.
Thank you so much for making this Video David......
Thank you! Getting the tools I need to do this to my Fuji lens. I have a long hair stuck inside and dust. It was a used lens when I got it.
Great video David! Thank you.
Excellent. Thanks. However, my problem is that I don't know to remove the front part of the black ef 80-200. Can you help at all? Thanks.
Very clear video. I have a Canon 8mm movie camera with fog inside the lens. I sure hope it isn't deep into the lens. Now I have to locate a quality magnetic mini screwdriver. Thanks
This has been so very helpful, however my lens has three screws on the outside, on the side rather than under the little ring. after taking them out do you think it would be the same? (As far as the one piece lens coming out.)
Do you think it would work the same with Sony starter kit lenses? I have my Sony 28-70 f3.5 that has this very problem but I'm worried they're designed differently and I end up force opening some parts that aren't really assembled the same way..
really thank you, good tutorial, i have 1 small dust partical inside lens where electronics is, soo i cannot do it by my self, but i was ready to do it, but after this video, canon profesional service is better option
Great stuff, man. Thank you. I have a Tamron that I'm going to be trying this on.
Hi David, thanks for the helpful tutorial. Does this technique work with prime lenses as well? I have noticed some dust inside my 80mm f1.2 and was thinking about attempting this.
So helpful, thanks a lot for this!
Great job ! Short & to the point. *Thank you !
Excellent sir. Its very useful for us.
Hi, if there was dust on the other element would you still blow it out just like this one
Thank you for the video. It is the same process for the 24-70mm F4 Canon Lens?
Thank you! I don’t have a camera shop in my town! I want to try to clean my lens instead of driving an hour away !
this really inspired me to go and clean my moldy and ancient 24-105. one thing though, the molds in mine look like they are in the back/bottom lens elements when I did the flashlight test and there is only dust on the top. should I take it to the shop if that is the case?
What about the other side? Do you just clean that from within the barrel when you have the front glass off?
when putting back the circle cover will the glue still sticky enough? do you glue it again? what kind of glue? Can you also dry wipe if glass is full of fungus? i afraid that soap or any solvent might damage the special coating
Ciao David, do you know how to do the same but on a 70/200 2.8. Grazie
How did the lint/dust got inside of my lens? I had the lens protector ready to slap it on as soon as i pull out of the un-opened box. Is a 24-70gmaster. Im wondering the dust was already inside out of factory?
when you are blowing air on the inner lens. should you not wipe with a micro cloth? should you always just blow air on it?
Thank you for this....especially the last part about the back of the lens, as that is the part that is very dirty. Haven't used my Canon A1 for many years. Need to take it to a professional

Very helpful saved me a lot of time
How do you clean rear element?
Best lens cleaning tutorial on KZread! Thank you
Thanx very much, I just cleaned fungus on my Canon 24-105 lens
muchas gracias hermano!!!! saludos desde Chile!
Thanks so much, your tutorial save me!
What screw driver set did you use?
Thanks for the tips mate.
If you have an old casette tape eraser, you can use it to magnetize (or de-magnetize) your screwdriver tips, then the screws don't fall and stick to the screwdriver. To magnetize, put the screwdriver tip against the part where you would lay on top of a casette, a short burst of magnetism and presto, magnetized tip. To de-magnetize, turn on the demagnetizer, bring it to the screwdriver and pull away while it it still on.
thank u for ur wonderful video, u saved my 150$ service cost, thank u for ur informative video
This video helped me, thank you, no dust in my cam lens
thank you thank you thank you sir my front lens has a chip small and doesn't effect my shots but its annoying to me
i saw someone washing the glass with soap water then dry wiping it is that ok
Thanks! This worked on my Lumix G Vario lens!
Hi David how do u Clean the Front lens Element of a Canon 70-200mm F2.8 ii
You should use the air rocket before the lens cloth as there may be debris on the lens that you will scratch the lens with.
What is the little thing called which blows out air
Why does the front lens have to line up with the mark?
It recently happen on SONY 24-70 GM II, it was second hand from a dealer, was no dust in lens, was like new. I made sure when I got it, checked it. Only used it a few times, now there's dust inside, just one dust grain. Not sure how it got inside. Only had it around 2 weeks I think.
Good job! I love your presentation though I am not kinda professional one
Really nice!! Would you show the back side lens of cleaning? Thanks!!
hi David are yuo from canada, can I bring my 24- 105 sony, front element has some dust and little fungus.
My 18-55 kitlens has no screws..hot do i open it
I did as u... but inside the top theres still fungus... how to go ahead in that little top circled by a black plastic?
No risk, no fun. Thanks mate! =)
My 18 135mm efs is stm has dark small spot inside the lens how can i remove it sir?
Why does this man know everything I'm going through??
Great video. Thank you. You explaine everything very well. Can you make a video for canon L type lens? I have a Conan powershot Pro 1 and there is a lit of dust inside. Its an old cameras but for my diving photos it's nice. Also i have the case so you can understand why i want to clean it
Thank you, good information.
Canon just told me $642 to do this, its sickening to me that they charge that much. Thanks for the video. I have an older EF 24-105 with dust inside, and its not worth sending out, but the lens is totally great after this video
what size is the sctewdriver
Excellent video!!
Thank you for this video!!
Hi, the one you removed. How can we clean it?
Might do it when i feel brave enough. I had to return a rf 24-70 2.8 because it has a rather large speck of dust brand new and now the one i got as a replacement has gotten a piece of dust in it as well.. not as dramatic as the first, but still.. makes me lose confidence in buying l glass.
great video, thanks
Another helpful tip is to use a head torch, st the right angle you can see even the smallest dust particles.

Well done!! Thank you!!
What's the little rocket blowers name?
Thank you and very helpful
