Segment A:
Small School, Big hART! - Lisa Madson is the art teacher at a one-school district that serves preschool through 8th grade. Art is an integral part of Califon Elementary. It's challenging teaching art to such a wide range of ages, but Lisa does with love and a keen sense of how art fits in with nature.
Segment B:
Books & Beyond USA - Art students at Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City share their talents while gaining a deeper appreciation of the role they play in this world. Books and Beyond USA works with Jersey City students in creating illustrations that help preschoolers in Rwanda learn English.
Segment C:
Students Raising Students -A Celebrity Chef Challenge to raise scholarship funds for students in Kenya and Tanzania is sponsored by the Hillside Intermediate
School Roots and Shoots Club -- Students Raising Students. Since 2005, the students from Bridgewater have been raising money to send both secondary and college students through school. They stay with the same students to assure that they complete college. One has gone on to become a wildlife conservationist.
Segment D:
Lemonade Stand - What started out as a distraction for special needs students at Middle Township Elementary #1 in Cape May has turned into a learning opportunity. Students in Andrea Davis' self-contained special education class were distracted by parents lining up to pick up their children at the end of the school day. Accepting this as an unavoidable distraction, Davis and her colleagues turned it into a learning opportunity for her students. Every Friday the students sell lemonade to the parents as they line up. The stand helps build communication skills and teaches them about running a business.
