Classroom Close-up Show 1 (2018-19)

Classroom Close-up NJ is a half-hour television program that features innovative projects in New Jersey public schools. The 16-time Emmy® award-winning show is in its 23rd season and airs on NJTV every Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show is the only television program in the country devoted to featuring the positive things happening in public schools. Segment A:
25th Anniversary - Classroom Close-up is celebrating its 25th and final season. Through the years, the show has featured the daily to the extraordinary activities in the New Jersey public schools. The show has touched the hearts and minds of the people in the Garden State. Educator’s will share their success stories of how the show has impacted their classroom, inspired their students and influenced the community.
Segment B:
Global Classrooms - Katrina Macht of Hillside Intermediate School is collaborating with fellow educators to create global classrooms. Teachers are guiding students through research-based investigations that incorporate issue-based themes related to environmental and social justice. Partner classes meet via video chat to select issues that resonate with each of their own communities. They identify their shared commonalities and work on solutions to shared problems. The goal is to celebrate cultural diversity and global connections. This is a Frederick L. Hipp Project.
Segment C:
STEM PALS2 - Teachers from Intervale Elementary School in Parsippany, and Robert R. Lazr Middle School in Montville team up to bridge the gap between STEM education occurring at the elementary and middle school level. They are also narrowing the STEM gender gap that exits between boys and girls. Four classrooms create challenges to be solved by each pairing of STEM PALS. The students use Tinkercad software to program the 3-D printer. The middle school students travel to the elementary school to compete in a Pasta Car Derby. This is a Frederick L. Hipp Project.
